I’m going to show you exactly when to hinge your wrists in the backswing.

Loading and unloading the wrists is what creates most of the power in the golf swing, so timing this correctly is key to hitting powerful and consistent shots. Many golfers make the mistake of hinging their wrists too early or too late in the backswing. This often leads to a disconnected motion that ruins their swing tempo.

In today’s golf lesson, PGA golf pro Kerrod Gray, in collaboration with Hack Motion, demonstrates exactly how to set your wrists and when this movement should take place.

  1. Great job Kerrod thanks. Any tips of when/how to then release the club from this loaded position? 🤔👍✊🏌️‍♂️

  2. What happens to your swing plane if you hinge your wrist immediately after you start taking the clubhead from the ball?

  3. This video helped me more then ANY other i have seen. I watched this in the parking lot of my range and went and hit the ball better then i have ever done before.
    So THANK YOU for this!!!
    Cheers✌️

  4. I think I have a problem with rotation and that’s why my lead arm starts to bend in my backswing and comes away from the swing path. Would the alignment stick be best to try and ensure that I’m rotating enough? I feel like it helps thinking about turning the right shoulder towards the direction you’re hitting

  5. great advice Kerrod. I have been struggling with my wrists and have purchased a Hackmotion which will hopefully help along with your drills. Curious though that unlike a number of other tutorials, you are wearing the band on your trail wrist?

  6. What numbers on the HackMotion am I looking to achieve at lead arm parallel to the ground and which wrist lead or trail would be the best one to measure. Many thanks.

  7. Great feel. I’ve been struggling with my hinging consistently and this gave me the feel that I needed. Great content!

  8. I feel like I have not been getting proper wrist hinge in my golf swing! I’m going to give the alignment stick drill a try. Thanks

  9. @kerrodgraygolf great video, this showed why i was so inconsistent yesterday at the range. You nailed this video. Thank you kindly

  10. My problem is timing when I unhinge. I tend to unhinge to early and hit the ground. I haven't found a video addressing this yet.

  11. I usually hinge my wrists early and get good results, was wondering if it was good or bad but from what I see it seems it’s ok. What I have trouble doing is remembering to shallow out on my down swing because when I don’t it becomes more of a shoulder swing which causes me to have an open face and to pull my head up causing me to top it.

  12. Is the club length also part of the equation? The shorter the club , the sooner one picks up the club/start hinging the wrist?

  13. No need to intentionally set your wrist. This is very inconsistent.
When your wrist is “relaxed” from the start your wrist will set itself with proper backswing and body turn.
Golf swing is a chain reactions of events cause by your swing. Learn the proper grip, setup and posture.
