Albia is now home to a family friendly bar and restaurant/event space that features activities like golf and dart simulators.
The Albia Golf and Country Club has transformed into Albia Golf and houses the golf course and The Back Nine at Albia Golf a new restaurant and bar.
Sonny and Shanna Schroeder, Doug and Crystal Wolfer, Brian and Angie Thompson and Caleb and Lynnsey Chidester purchased the golf course and country club property in late summer, but didn’t begin renovations until October.
In six weeks they transformed the hall into a bar and restaurant, gutted and renovated the kitchen and added an additional attached building featuring seating as well as two golf simulator and two dart simulators. Schroeder said the venue is family friendly and a kids gaming/play area is available as well.
Schroeder said that he had always been interested in purchasing the golf course and clubhouse if they came up for sale and when they did he jumped at the chance to buy them.
Schroeder wanted to emphasize that the golf course and The Back Nine restaurant are open to the public. Although people can choose to purchase a membership to the golf course that provides some perks, no one has to be a member to come out and enjoy a meal or watch a game at the bar or to golf.
The new owners were able to hold a soft open of the bar area on Nov. 15 and recently hosted a New Year’s Eve event that was open to the public.
Schroeder said they hosted several Christmas parties that went off very successfully as well. Although he said the bar area is always open to the public, large parties can take up the rest of the restaurant by reserving all the seating. He said most parties can comfortably fit in the newly added area with the golf and dart simulators, which gives a feeling of more privacy, as patrons have to go down a set of stairs from the main floor to enter the new area.
Schroeder said The Back Nine is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. The kitchen does close at 9 p.m. but the bar is still open after that. The menu features classics like burgers, tenderloins, salads and pizzas with four specialty pizzas available.
Those who want can also place to go orders. Schroeder said that they plan to host indoor golf and dart leagues with the simulators and plan to continue improvements. The old bar area will be converted to retail space and a Pro shop in the coming months.
