There Is No Shortage Of Winter Golfing Options In Marshfield

MARSHFIELD, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — For those who want to scratch their golfing itch during the winter, Marshfield may not be a bad place to visit.

Marshfield’s Green Harbor Golf Club opened as a public course in 1971 is one of the few courses that stays open during the winter months, although that has been a bit tougher this year due to the elements and some particularly cold weather.

“Previous years, we’ve been able to change the cups through the winter,” Superintendent Manny Francis said. “This is probably one of the first winters, where we haven’t moved them in the last three months.”

Despite this, the cups are in fact still out there, giving golfers the chance to actually put during the winter. On the days the mother nature cooperates, assuming any snow and slush has melted away, Francis said it feels no different than playing a round of golf in the fall or spring.

“We’ve had days where when you’re out here and there’s no wind, it feels like it’s a mid-60 day,” he said.

Being a walking only course certainly helps golfers stay warm, but some days are just too cold for a typical golf outing. Winslow’s Driving Range, which opened in 2022 and is right on the same property as the golf club, still lets folks practice their swing through the winter.

“[Each bay has] two heaters and your own personal TV,” said Winslow’s supervisor Dave Moran. “And when you rent the bay, it would be $40 for an hour, unlimited golf balls for up to six people.”

Moran said the tracking technology also incudes 25 virtual courses, so even if Green Harbor’s course is closed, golfers can still squeeze a round in.
