A major new chapter for Cobra as they reveal their debut tech-packed mini driver targeting speed, distance, forgiveness and versatility.
As golfers increasingly look for smarter tee options that offer control without sacrificing speed or distance, the mini-driver category has surged, with recent releases including the Elyte mini driver from Callaway, and the Secret Weapon from PXG. Now it’s Cobra’s turn and their first foray into the category brings the engineering ambition that has defined their recent driver innovations, and, based on our early testing, could see the model named one of the best mini drivers – even best drivers – available this year.
Positioned between a traditional 460cc driver and a 3-wood, the KING Tec MD aims to give players tighter dispersion, higher launch, and more playable distance, all inside a compact, confidence-inspiring head tailored for precision off the tee.
Let’s take a look at Cobra’s new mini driver, and what golfers can expect from the new addition..
Why Cobra built a mini driver
Golfers today are often looking for more strategic options from the tee, valuing accuracy just as much as distance, and the rise of the mini-driver category is a direct response to this. Players want a club that offers tighter dispersion than a traditional 460cc driver, while still producing more forgiveness and launch than a 3-wood. Many golfers also prefer a shape that feels less intimidating at address and provides a mix of control, speed, and workability.
The KING Tec MD caters to several player profiles at once. Better players will appreciate having a second tee club designed specifically for tight holes or windy conditions, where shaping and placement take priority over maximum distance. Mid-handicappers will find the Tec MD easier to launch and more stable than a strong-lofted 3 wood, while still producing meaningful ball speed and height. And for players who struggle with contact or confidence when hitting traditional 3-woods from the deck, the Tec MD offers a more playable alternative with extra ball speed and forgiveness.
Construction and technology
Despite its compact profile, the Tec MD is built with the full suite of Cobra’s engineering technlogies. Its foundation begins with an 811 Titanium body, which provides a strong yet lightweight structure that enables Cobra’s designers to position mass effectively for improved launch and forgiveness. This is paired with a multi-layer carbon crown, which removes weight from the top of the head, helping lower the center of gravity for easier launch and a more powerful ball flight.
The heart of the club’s performance lies with the (also 811 Ti) PWRSHELL face, the same forged variable-thickness cup face used in Cobra’s fastest fairway woods. This design increases face flex at impact, enhances ball speed on low strikes, and expands the effective hitting zone. Supporting this is H.O.T. Face technology, where AI-driven mapping creates numerous optimized regions across the face to maintain ball speed even when contact strays from the centre of the club face.
The Tec MD also boasts moveable weighting, giving players the ability to fine-tune their ball flight, manage spin, and set up for either neutral, fade, or draw shot shapes. This adjustability makes the Tec MD one of the most customizable clubs in its category. Complementing this is the FUTUREFIT33 hosel, which provides 33 different combinations of loft, lie, and face angle settings. Fitters and players can precisely optimize trajectory, launch window, and directional control, ensuring the Tec MD can be matched to individual swing characteristics.
Performance
The KING Tec MD is engineered to deliver driver-like ball speed with the control and reliability golfers often seek in their fairway woods. It is not designed to fully replace either category but rather to bridge the gap between them. The standard 13.5° loft strikes a balance between launch and spin, producing a powerful yet playable flight. Its 43.75-inch shaft length is shorter than a driver for improved control, but longer than a 3-wood to help create more speed and distance. The club is also engineered to fit any 3-wood shaft, giving players flexibility and familiarity in their setup.
Cobra designed the MD to be easier off the tee than a fairway wood without the intimidating footprint of a driver. At the same time, it retains enough speed and face technology to be faster off the deck than most traditional fairway options, making it a strong candidate for players who want versatility without compromising performance.

Who should play the Cobra KING Tec MD?
The Tec MD is intentionally built to fit a wide range of golfers. Better players will benefit from its compact shape, workable profile, and adjustable weighting, allowing them to play controlled fades, hold off draws, or take aggressive lines when holes require precision. Mid-handicap golfers, who often struggle to launch 3-woods consistently or keep 460cc drivers in play on narrow fairways, will find the Tec MD a much easier and more reliable option. Even golfers who simply feel more comfortable with a slightly smaller head shape will appreciate the confidence this mini driver give them.
Where the Cobra KINGTec MD fits in the bag
The KING Tec MD can fill two primary roles depending on the needs of the player. As a precision driver, it excels on narrow fairways, dog-legs, or windy par fours where the priority is holding the fairway rather than maximizing distance. Its loft, length, and stability make it highly reliable in these situations.
Alternatively, it can serve as a 3-wood replacement, providing more launch and forgiveness while still offering versatile performance from the turf. Cobra say this dual capability is what sets the Tec MD apart from other tee-only mini drivers, it is designed not just for control, but for all-around playability as well.
