Another fantastic video Sir. I will definitely Share this video!
This is a great video. I will watch again this evening before bed. Perfect way to end a day after a great trackman practice seeing a new video pop up. Love the data, gives us as handicap golfers realistic expectations. As Bob Rotella says "golf is not a game of perfect" and Ill state I think you've read the books They are great. (your teaching reminds me of the books) Thanks David
Excellent video David. Definitely a philosophy to take to the course!
Sorry for hijacking the comments section David… wow. after the 3rd watch of this video its great… Looking into my upcoming season for 26 (winter in Canada and courses closed) will give me some thoughts for expectations in my golf this upcoming year. Absolutely brilliant. 10% from 150 yards in.. I've said it before but your course management videos are the best on YouTube. I've gotten my WHS to a 7.1 at its lowest this year with a "less than perfect swing" I settled out at a 8.4 because of temperatures and conditions and struggle with mental thoughts o the GC, still working on the swing of course as I hit bad ones (everyone does) but the course management is absolutely BRILLIANT. I think this video may be your second best video to date. Thank You. PS You should write a book on your findings. I think you could make a small fortune off of it. Thanks again, Dan
And the green keeping aspect of keeping the course playable by taking our time to repair it after each shot… as a green keeping student at university. That in itself is AWESOME. I see so many not follow this rule and there in NOTHING more frustrating than landing in an unprepared divot. Very discouraging. Many thanks for this GREAT VIDEO
On the basis you are always playing for your best shot, was your choice of club on 200 yard par 3 one that would often land you on the green itself rather than short?
Love the 90% rule. What % would you use for a 2 hcp? Cheers.
Basically this is therapy for golfers!
Really liked this video as it is such an easy concept to take to the course and know what is a 'satisfactory' shot and if it is outside that distance it provides an easy way to mentally reset for the next shot. As someone who plays off 21, I shall start the season trying to get within 15% as I look to get my handicap down but knowing that 20% is my level will really help keep the keep the frustrations at bay.
(One of my favourite videos of yours.)
Definitely need a book David . Is a pace 3 foot approx ? Thanks for all your videos
So would you take that as your target being the middle of the circle? In the example where the flag is up front and the shot is 100 yards, wouldn’t the middle or further back into the green would be a safe target from a course management perspective?
I like what you are proposing David; it makes sense. The key concept I have taken is being realistic about expectations and with that in mind “did I execute the shot I planned” . Love it
Yourself David and Matty Boom Boom ( Golf sidekick ) two completely different characters but both with essentially the same message ; “manage your realistic expectations “ and don’t “hero shot” works for me and I’m getting back towards single figure golf hopefully this season as a result.
I love playing with the “nothing for short” or “go big or go home” types as I usually come out on top against them…. I have no ego and managing my expectations playing par/bogey golf has improved my whole outlook
Hi David. Great video/advice. I play mainly links golf. Even in the winter we have firm approach/greens at Turnberry. Would you apply the sample percentage principles? Cheers.
Great way to think about things – cheers! 🙂
Ty David 👍 I am that high HC trying to break 90 (with my winter practice and help from your mental approach videos) I fully expect to achieve that goal in 2026, I will adopt the 20% rule after trying the 10% first.
Thanks again for the time and effort u put into your videos 👋
Thanks for this, helps me manage my expectations as a beginner – and realised I am doing better than I thought
Thanks David, once again, wonderful advice. You have provided this advice in a range of ways over the 2 years I have been a subscriber. Have a realistic target, do what you can acheive at your level and be realistic about your ability. I like to think I am that golfer, but when I play what I think is the right percentage shot and it doesn't come off (usualy compounds the problem) it takes a lot of deep breaths to curb the dissapointment. Any tips on Mental reset? Some sort of trigger to draw on. I do get the recent video on embrasing the challenge, but the frustration is overpowering that. I do love your course care instructions. I was surpriesd in July/August when I found courses in the UK don't have sand buckets to repair divots. Some had sand bags with seed which is a great idea. I can't take a fillet divot and often would bruise or damage the fairway with no option for repair. But no matter where you are in the world, fairways, bunkers, greens, don't be that player who then complains about how it was left for them but did not look after the course yourself.
David's videos are realistically based, not showing absolute perfection because that's not what happens on the course despite our best intentions, but he demonstrates sound course management with what are realistic goals AND very good strategic shots!
Brilliant stuff!
