John Daly Announces He’s Pursuing ‘Major’ Golf Job

John Daly remains a favorite in the golf community.

The major champion and powerful hitter, known for his love of Hooters, soda and beer, is one of the most popular players in PGA Tour history. Daly was a five-time champion on the PGA Tour and a two-time major champion. However, while he was a standout golfer, he never had the opportunity to represent his country, the United States of America.

Daly, now 59 years old, wants that to change.

The longtime PGA Tour star is hoping to represent the United States of America at the 2027 Ryder Cup in Ireland.

Daly, speaking with Hard Rock Bet, explained that he is pursuing the Ryder Cup captaincy for 2027 in Ireland.

“I’d love to be a captain one day, but that ain’t never going to happen. But Tiger would be an unbelievable captain. I would love to be a co-captain or just be a part of it somehow,” Daly shared.

“I feel like I should have been on two teams, but it just didn’t happen. I didn’t play good enough, so I didn’t get on them. But to be a part of the Ryder Cup would be something I would love to do, whether it’s a co-captain or just be a part of it.

“I’d love to see it, put my input in, and hopefully help the guys. I think it’d be an experience for me that I’ve always dreamed of doing ever since I won the PGA Championship in 1991…”Just to be a part of it and wear something with the American flag on it,” he continued.

“Me, personally, I could care less about getting any gifts. I play for the flag of the United States, and I think that’s what I would put more into our team, like the European guys do.”

Daly’s chances are limited, in all likelihood

While Daly is highly unlikely to be named a captain, it’s possible that he could land some kind of role on the team.

Daly is close with Tiger Woods, as he and his son have played with the legendary PGA Tour star and his son, Charlie.

Perhaps we could see John Day out on the course in Ireland, helping coach the United States in 2027, at the prestigious Ryder Cup.
