[Music] I’ve seen people who weren’t humble and like so I just want to be the best role model to the young community like just be the best I can. So, [Music] [Applause] [Music] Jordan Smith Jr. class of 2026. I go to Paul 6 Catholic High School. So my journey started at 4 um watching my dad play basketball uh on the parks and stuff and I just took inspiration to that. Uh ever since then, you know, I told him that I wanted to play, you know, remember my first video I seen of me dribbling through a parking lot. Just to see where I’ how far I’ve come from dribbling a basketball in a parking lot to now being a senior in high school, you know, about to go to college real soon, about to make a decision. It’s just thanks to the man above for all the blessings that he put me through. So, he checks off every box. Um, and I I think it’s it’s been fun to watch. Uh, we’ve had some great players and some great players that he looked up to when he was even uh younger. Um, and we we they’ve set the bar very high. Uh, guys like Eric Green who really helped start our jump start our program all these years ago. Um, and so it’s it’s really fun to watch Jordan’s progression because he can do everything. And so he’s he’s kind of a combination of all the greats that we’ve had like you know Aaron Thompson who is one of the best leaders and toughest players we’ve ever had. Well, you know, Smitty’s right up there with with Aaron in that. Basketball means a lot. You know, uh, growing up, I used to watch high school basketball all the time. My dad used to go to the hoop fest, watch all the high level games. But this one high school team, HD Woodson, I used to go there all the time. My dad to watch my friends Anton Walker, Keon Boy, used to watch them all the time growing up. And I just took like like I seeing them succeed, seeing them beat all the high level teams, you know, they went 33 and0 that one year. It was just really good to see like that DC basketball is really there. And then ever since then, it’s always been on the rise ever since. I told him when he was a freshman, I told his family he had a chance to be the best player ever coming out of PBI. I felt very comfortable telling him at that point because I thought he’s so humble. He worked so hard that he’d be driven by it and he would not get caught up in it. And uh I think uh I think uh it’s been working and the challenge been laid out. Hey, you have one more year to put your imprint on on the program. Uh but that’s that’s he has a chance to walk out of here uh among the best obviously if not the best. These guys meant a lot. You know, it’s helped me develop, of course, helped me be a good man on and off the court. But the main thing that they helped me with is my IQ and just making decisions on and off the ball. I feel like I’ve grown a lot since my ninth grade year. Ninth grade, I would rush a lot, you know, to get the ball out of my hands. But ever since then, I’ve been more poised with the ball, you know, make more decisions, make more open shots. So, I just want to thank Coach Fellow for all of that. You know, he’s really put me through all the situations, all the all the times. You know, made me uncomfortable in most situations, but he didn’t really care cuz he knew it was going to be better for me in the future. So, We try to create a culture that everyone gets to eat, you know, and everyone gets to be involved and be impactful. It’s a very special thing. And uh I think that what’s been great is our best players have bought into that. Uh it’s not the Jordan Smith show here, right? He understands that he embraces it. It was not the Jeremy Road show. It wasn’t the Trevor Ke show. Uh they all bought into each other. Uh Deshan Harris Smith, Darren Harrison. It was amazing to watch how they all appreciated each other uh and not just wanted the spotlight for themselves. They wanted to share it with each other. So, that’s been something that’s been really important to us. Uh but if you all do it together, uh everyone gets to to to to uh enjoy uh the benefits of it. [Applause] There should be zero separation if you drill like it. You should be going after everything. The best set the whole time was Travis Stay and uh and Dylan. You guys had a great great uh job of scoring the ball, being tough enough, turning right into converting right into defense, right? Right into it. Get the ball back again. [Music] Championships come first. You know, if we win a championship, all that behind me, it’ll come with it. So, my main focus is just to win a championship, you know, help my guys win a championship, just do whatever it takes to win. And by doing that, all that, all the accolades, all the trophies, all the awards that come with it. But it’s definitely in the back of my head. But championship is always first thing that comes to my mind. It’s it’s important for kids like that to not be just used for what they are able to do. Say, “Hey, go get make some plays and you know, you’ll score some buckets.” And along the way, we wanted to make sure we developed his offense like he he deserved it. And so, I thought he did a really nice job and and his teammates did a nice job of including him even when he was a freshman to have the ball in his hands to get comfortable making decisions because what we found out early on was not that he couldn’t just score the ball, but he’s a great playmaker as well. He’s very unselfish uh with finding finding teammates. So to watch that kind of progression has been a lot of fun to to see him add pieces to his game every single year. The three ball has come over the last couple years uh because he’s worked on it so much. And what happens a lot of times when players start off they’ll feel like okay we’ll do all the tough stuff uh um you know we’ll we’ll uh we’ll compete but as I get older I’ll stop doing those things as I you know start to become more offensive minded for example. I have a bigger role that way and the the best the greatest never stop. They lay that foundation of of the defense and the rebounding, that that roleplaying type, if you will, and they just add to it. And I think that’s what Jordan’s done. That’s why we always talk about how he just checks off all the boxes. I just want to be a dog on defense at all times. If your other best player can’t score, we have a better chance of winning the game. You know, if our best three guys can turn out their best three guys, then we’ll win the game. If our best five can turn out their best five, we win the game. So, defense wins championships. That’s how I was taught. That’s what I was brought up on. So, I’ve always believed that. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Yeah. All [Applause] [Music] [Applause] right. So, honestly, right there. Um, uh, by No. I mean, where’s BY? That, dude, that was elite. What he did, right? You did you didn’t do anything wrong. That was just a leap. Uh, Jordan, that was actually a lot of fun to see. Uh, but for all of you, he wasn’t right standing right next to me. He made a play outside his area and so many of you guys give up a lot of uh opportunities for yourselves to make defensive plays because you don’t come out of your area. Having that desire to go and make a play is is something that you guys all have to kind of like really embrace and you all capable of, right? You may not have the athleticis uh uh the ability that uh that does, but boy, you all have the ability to go make plays defensively out of your area. I can do everything on the floor. I impact winning at high levels. I can make shots. I can dribble the ball. I can pass the ball. You know, I can just do everything. His if factor is just the full-on desire to win, do whatever it takes to win. Uh if it has to if it means a block shot, if it means a rebound, if it means a defensive stop, he’s going to find a way. And he’s also going to find a way to kind of get get his teammates to to buy in with him, right? To to elevate them as well. Uh so I think his factory just he’s a he’s a winner. He he’s going to do whatever it takes. I think I think it’s what’s been really special to hear people watch him whether it be college, NBA, uh people that just understand the game for sure. And I love to hear their feedback on on their their experiences of watching him play. People just love watching him play. He’s a throwback. He he’s he’s going to do what, you know, he’s he’s just fun to watch. They I tell people, come watch him for 32 minutes. You’re it’s a show. And it’s not just the highlight plays that he makes, right? It’s not just the dunks. I think it’s sometimes it’s just a simple simple close out on the backside because he recognizes the situation and and uh and he just the way he competes. So, uh uh that is a special thing that he has that uh is he understands it’s important to him uh to to be that person. Um and he’s just he he just he personifies winning. How about that? What are you about to do today? We get a camera tell about today. Bro, right now we about to go watch uh our football team play Carol. Bro, I hope we win. Bro, it gets loud out here. I forgot. Okay, it’s kind of getting packed. It’s cold. It’s early right now. 8 minutes to tip off. I want Come here. I want you to meet my I want you to meet the student section. Say what’s up to the camera, guys. Yes. This is my man KJ. You saw him in practice today. Gave him belt b. Oh man, introduce you to the camera. Bro, people don’t really like to come talk to me, but I’m very welcoming person at times. I feel like if you come talk to me, I can have like a 30 minute conversation, hour conversation, as long as you want to talk to me. Most importantly, I just like to meet new people. Like I just like to talk to people like but most importantly I’m very humble cuz I’ve seen people who weren’t humble and like who’ve had the same accolades that I have now and just weren’t humble and then they’ve gone down the wrong path. So I just want to be the best role model to the young community like just be the best I can. So this is my guy Brody. He come to all the PVI basketball camps. I’ve gone to PVI camps for about 6 years. I’ve known city for about four years. My guy broy. Next up be on the lookout. I might to get a hat, pink hat so I can show some spirit cuz I don’t have any pink on just to have something for school spirit. Normally during these games I get a lot of people walk up to me. It’s crazy. But I love it though. My it factor is my family. I would do anything to see my family happy. I would do anything to make my family happy. I would just do anything for my family cuz they made plenty of sacrifices to me. Like they’ve sent me to PVI. PVI is an hour away from DC. Just the sacrifice that they have for me to come out here. I really appreciate it. I don’t complain when I come out here cuz I know all the work that they put in out here. Workless hours, you know, grandparents sacrificing taking me out here every day, you know, and I want to thank my friends, you know, let me stay at their house all the time. So, just the family aspect of all this, you know, it really means a lot. Especially want to thank my little sister. Pushes me the most in the house. Nothing’s ever good enough for her. Just relentless when it comes to sports. You know, she’s an athlete herself. So, we always compare ourselves to each other. But definitely the family is my factor. Huh? Oh, we see how you get. Oh, Kenny, hit me. [Music] [Music] Oh, another member of the basketball team, Travis. And this right here, number one pressure in the country, Cass Gert. Tell him, tell him, that’s him. Beat anybody. He ain’t be He ain’t beating me up though. We are We are Oh, I need to wash my hands though. I got you. You got water? I need Turk to get here, bro. I need Turkey to get her, bro. Oh. Oh. [Applause] That’s not We on there. Hold on. I get a And one cheese and one more pepperoni. And three pepperoni and one cheese in total, please. And then can I have a blue Gatorade? Yo, this is my fellow advisy. Fish. Fish. Introduce yourself. I’m talking to Mike right here. I’m Fish. I’m in his advisor. He’s so blessed. Why do they call you Fish? Uh, I got named It was a name that my brothers gave me and it stuck through high school. So I love it. This is my guy here. They be chilling about one time. Say one time. Say it one time. Do it all the time. Like no. No. No. Like the one dude on TikTok. Six. Oh my god. Yeah. It’s going to be so loud in the gym. Like we have the best student section in the WCAC in my opinion. Uh, goofy kids obviously. Like, look at them. So, I’m just ready for it to happen and I’m just excited. Like, look at them, bro. Trying to dance. [Laughter]
