Yo guys, welcome to another video. So today we’re going to talk about golf shoes, but it’s more than just regular golf shoes. You can talk about golf shoes in a thousand different ways, but as someone with a background like this or a background like Connor’s, as you can see, uh we have a very specific taste when it comes to sneakers. And we want that same taste to be translated into some of our golf shoes. So what Connor and I have done, we have put together a list of golf shoes, his five and my five. I don’t know what his five are. He doesn’t know what my five are. And what we’re going to do is provide a road map for sneaker heads out there, for people that have backgrounds like this in their videos and in their bedrooms that are getting into the game of golf. Golf is hard enough. Picking the sneakers that you wear shouldn’t be. So, with that said, I will kick things off. Actually, Connor, you should probably give them your bonafides first instead of me just jumping in and acting like I’m the only expert here. Yeah, man. I mean, first off, this has been years in the making, right? We’ve been talking about doing this for a while. Um, it’s funny. I got to mention just because Jacques is a legend in the the sneaker space that he’s what got me into sneakers as a kid. But, uh, I’ve been been a sneaker head for a while. I’ve been a golf shoe tester for a while. I’ve worn well over 150 pairs of golf shoes. Meaning that if anything, I’m an expert in the space kind of. And so, yeah, I’m stoked to talk golf shoes with you. Definitely an expert in the space. Don’t don’t play yourself short. I think we I think we’ve both earned uh the ability to make this sort of sort of video with all the things that we’ve done. So, I’ll kick things off and I’m going to make it easy for the sneaker heads out there. So, Jordan brand does a ton of things in the golf space. Now, you can get something like a Jordan 1, which is a golf shoe technically. However, I don’t think it stands up to the the conditions that golf demands from a golfer. Um, the leather just doesn’t hold up. The materials, it just doesn’t hold up for me. So, if you’re going to wear a Jordan Retro, which is a good golf shoe, I’m going to recommend the Air Jordan 12 low golf shoe. Uh you’ve seen pros wear this on tour, uh it doesn’t have the integrated traction, although there’s nothing wrong with that. It has like a more traditional golf sole and it also has the Zoom pods in the forefoot, so you have that that uh extra comfort there. So, for me, if I’m thinking as a sneaker head, I want to wear something that looks cool, that gives off the Jordan retro vibes, for me, it’s the Air Jordan 12. Interesting pick. That’s not actually That’s actually probably one of the few that I have not worn. Um, do you have a favorite color? Do you do the flu game one? Which which pair do you usually break out? Uh, for me, it’s the white and blue pair. That’s the only That’s cuz that’s the only pair that I have at the moment. Uh, I haven’t I haven’t gotten like a tax I believe they did a taxi colorway as well. So, right now it’s just the white and the blue pair. And they’ve held up fairly well. Like that’s another thing with golf shoes that they they often get dirty. Obviously, they obviously they get dirty really quickly cuz they’re outside and they’re in the elements, but they clean up very well as well. So, like it’s those are all kind of part of the equation of putting together my list of finding something that works well, has the traction, has the comfort, but also can clean up at clean up as well. Yeah, it’s solid. I mean, you mentioned like the leather on the one. I’m I think I’m on my third pair of ones now because I wear them and they just get beat and the glue starts falling apart and the toe starts separating and so yeah, actually I’m gonna have to try the 12. That’s a good one. It’s uh I’ll bring it to the other side of the spectrum for my first one and I’m going to reach for the shoes behind me here. But you probably have an OG pair of the Ultra Boost. This is the Ultra Boost golf shoe, right? So it’s it’s funny. These came out 10 years ago. The original Ultra Boost. Yeah. You look for those. I couldn’t I couldn’t get them back in Utah uh in 2015. You couldn’t find them anywhere, you know. Kanye wore the Ultra Boost and made it super popular, but they turned it into a golf shoe. And if like your main priority is just something that’s comfortable, you’re going to be hardressed to find a shoe that’s more comfortable than the Ultra Boost golf shoe. Yeah. So, here’s my I think this was the first colorway that they did, right? Um Yeah. Has that integrated traction again for the sneaker head that the the uh the distinguished sneaker head that looks for a certain sort of material, a certain look for a shoe like the Ultra Boost is is perfect. It’s comfortable. Uh especially if you’re walking your rounds. I know a lot of people don’t like to walk their rounds. I’m a fan of walking and so being able to get something that’s nice and comfortable to walk in fits fits very well. Um let’s you know, let’s make it a snake. Let’s make it a snake draft. So you I went one, let’s do you do two and three and then I’ll h I’ll hop in. Yeah. Okay. This one comes along with a fun fact. This is probably a sleeper pick. Um but you know, Reebok got back into golf this year. They brought back the question. This one have to bring up because most people don’t know. You probably don’t know this. We’re based in Yorktown, Virginia. I mean, our office right here, we’re 10 miles from where Alan Iverson went to high school. So, AI is a local legend here. He’s from the area. Um, so there’s some misses on this shoe, right? I think you and I have talked about like I would love some Hexelite. I don’t love the way the sole looks, but just the fact that Reebok tried something different and brought the question to golf uh earns it a spot on my list. That’s a That’s a good pick. I don’t I don’t have a pair of those yet. I’ve been looking looking to get myself get my hands on those. Um I was like you. I’m not a fan of the way that bottom looks. I would have loved something that looked a little more um athletic, I guess, is the is the thing that I’m looking for. Those feel a little more uh traditional, I guess, in the in the way that the bottom looks. I I I would rather have something that looks a little more athletic athletic especially on a shoe like that because that shoe has such a history uh on the basketball court and in lifestyle and I’m sure you’ve had questions that you’ve worn before like that that shoe just doesn’t it didn’t it didn’t feel like it really translated a question in fully into a golf shoe. Yeah, I would have liked I would like I would have liked the Ultra Boost treatment what we did what we just talked about, right? They basically just took the Ultra Boost, made it a little more waterproof, added some traction. Like if we had just done that with the question, I think it would have been a bigger hit. Ah, that’s a good point. I never thought about it that way, adding Ultra Boost to the to the question. That’s a good one. Okay. All right. I’m going to stay in uh in the Jordan retro lane, obviously, because Jordan retros have such a a a strangle hold on the community. And I’m going to go with the Air Jordan 14. Now, this is a newer one of the Jordan retros. Um, they’ve just recently started going to the 14 to turn converting them into golf shoes. And the reason I like that one, one, because they keep the upper true to the look of the Air Jordan 14. So, if you ever wore the Air Jordan 14 outside of the golf space, you have a a certain eye for what that tow looks like, what that profile shot looks like, and they’ve kept it pretty true to that. Uh, but what they’ve done is this second sort of era of Jordan golf shoes is they’re starting to keep them true to their shape and not using just the TWW13 bottom. For a long time, when they were using the the retros for Jordan brand, they were using the TWW13 bottom as a way to kind of convert them over, but now they’re using more traditional bottoms that look more like the the the original shoes. And for the Air Jordan 14, they’ve done that. Uh they released a white and gold pair earlier this year and I’ve walked out probably a good 10 to 15 rounds in them and they’ve and again they they hold up pretty well. The leather is really nice. You it doesn’t necessarily scream golf shoe when you think about the 14 just like just regularly. But when you get them on and you see how they’ve converted um I think they did a really good job with them. I’ve actually gotten some like comments about them like about the Air Jordan 14 being a golf shoe and people seem to really like the way that they look on feet. So, if you’re going to if you’re going to go that route, they don’t Air Jordan 14 is the way to go. At least at least in my opinion. That’s another one I don’t have. Would you uh if I was going to buy one 12 or 14, what would you pick right now? 12 or 14? That’s a great question. Um, it kind of depends on if you like the 12, the feel of the 12, I think, originally because that zoom pod in the front is is pretty pronounced in the front. If you’re not used to that, that can can become uncomfortable after walking around. So, I would say the safe choice is probably the 14. Uh, just because the 12 can also look a little long. Uh if you’ve seen Harold Varnner uh play in the twelves, they do look a little long on his foot in general. Um so I would say the 14 is probably the safer bet just because it has a little bit of a higher cut and it probably is a little more uh feels a little more stylish so you don’t look like you have clown feet in a sense in that regard. So my next one I’m going to do do this one just came out and I was really surprised by it. Uh it’s the Adidas EQT. It’s a remake of some of the EQT stuff from back in the day. uh the foot you wear sort of sort of branding. Now, this one isn’t as sneaker as some of my last couple of picks, but it does have some of the essence of a sneaker in it. It’s not a full like traditional cut of the shoe. And I think that’s where I think sneaker brands like I think that’s where they have their most successes in that little midpoint between being a complete sneaker or being a a complete traditional like saddle style shoe. I think that midpoint of having something that’s right in the middle of those two that have that breathes in a sense the essence of a sneaker is there. So, they only have one colorway so far. I should have brought them over here. I don’t know why I didn’t bring them over here. They’ve only had one color colorway so far, the white and the green. Uh, but they do have the Boost. And as as you mentioned earlier with the Ultra Boost, the Boost is slowly becoming a really great tech when it comes to golf shoes. I I I’ll admit I was skeptical at first when I heard about it because of how bouncy it is and you know as a golfer I don’t know if you want that that could be unstable. Um do you know what they’ve done with Ultra Boost or is there something different that they’re doing with the golf versions? I mean I think the biggest thing they’re doing is like most of those shoes and I don’t have the EQ2 in hand either but adding the TPU sole versus like a typical rubber sole just makes it a little stiffer. I think that helps in a lot of instances. I mean, it has been caged to some degree with some, you know, cupping on the heel and that kind of stuff, too. So, I guess that’s probably what you do. I know I know some of what Adidas has done is they’ve gone to the light boost instead of just the boost, which maybe that’s a little less bouncy, too. Could be could be a factor there. I like that. I I think that makes that makes more sense just cuz it’s it doesn’t feel as bouncy as like the running shoes. Remember when I first put on Boost? You’re like, “Oh my god, this feels so great.” These still feel great like with the instep with your first instep, but they just they do have a different feel on the course and it’s not it’s not unstable, which is, you know, what you would generally sort of feel um especially with boost being used in running shoes, right? So, okay. All right. I got to hear what’s next. What’s next on the list? Well, I’m going to keep us in the brand. I’m going to keep us with Adidas. We’ve got a lot of Jordan and a lot of Adidas, but they’re doing really good in the sneaker the golf sneaker game right now. They are. So, this is a different one. Uh, most of you guys will not have seen these, but you will know. Obviously, Adidas Originals, big name. I could have gone samba here. Wanted to do something different. So, this is what’s called the coarse cup. It’s inspired by a shoe they did in 1986 called the Gold Cup. And all you need to know about this is it’s a little chunkier than the Gazelle, the Sombo, a little more elevated, better materials, and honestly, it’s just Yeah, this is one of those ones where it’s going to trend more traditional, right? It’s got a wing tip design, that kind of stuff. But at the end of the day, everyone’s wearing sambas. I’d rather be different. I’m going to pick the coarse cup 10 times out of 10 over a samba. I really like the coarse cup. It’s a It’s a really great shoe. I I don’t think I’m cool enough to wear the uh the what’s the what’s it the kilt on the toe. I’m not I’m not I don’t have that I don’t have that swag yet. My my I guess uh as what the as the kids say, my riz level is not that high. I don’t have the the the kilt aura. Um, but I I do I do like them like without they they they do they bridge that gap of like not a sneaker but not a like a regular golf shoe that you expect and they walk that fine line really well and it’s cool that they’re bringing back. So it has like a little bit of a heritage old school play to it as well which I think really really helps Adidas in this in this situation. Like they have a lot of cool stuff coming out of the three stripes when it comes to the golf space. Yeah, there’s no one doing more right now in my opinion than Adidas. like that. If if I was going to say one brand is killing it the most, it’s I’m going to pick Adidas every time. With that being said, we’re going to move we’re going to we’re going to show off one of their competitors cuz you know we have to. Uhoh. This is this is again another unexpected pick. I don’t think anyone would pick this. This is the Curry 1. Okay, so it’s near and dear to my heart because like the first real basketball shoe that I spent my own money on as a high schooler was the original Curry 1. You probably remember the Sour Patch colorway that he did. He won the three-point contest and that was the high top obviously, but uh Under Armour quietly has been doing a lot with the Curry line, especially in golf. And so this one, I’ve always said basketball shoes transition well the golf course because they’re built for that lateral stability. Uh this one does that. It’s got the charge cushion that’s super comfortable and the traction is actually pretty solid on this one, too. So, because it’s near and dear to my heart, uh being a basketball player first and foremost, the Curry 1 is one that no one talks about, but people probably should. That’s a good shoe. Would you would you recommend that a new golfer go with spiked or integrated traction? Like how what’s your how do you feel about the the differences between those? Uh for a golfer that’s just getting into the game and that’s trying to decide which new which new golf shoe he should wear he or she should wear. Yeah. I mean my professional professional opinion, my golf spy me says spiked is going to offer better traction and that’s what you’re going to want to go with if you want to get the best performance. If you think of if you think of your golf shoe as a actual piece of equipment that’s supposed to help you play golf, then you need to go spiked. But personal preference in me, nine times out of 10, I wear spikeless cuz it’s more comfortable to me. Often I’m just rolling out of my car to the range to go hit balls for a little bit. So I just throw on a pair of spikeless shoes or I just wear the spikeless shoes around the office and go straight to the range. Um, so yeah, if you’re a beginner and you want to get better quickly, spiked is the way to go. If you if you just play casually like me, I’d go spikeless every time. I go back and forth between them because uh you know, I’m I’m really working on my game. Uh I have I have dreams of dropping down to scratch golfer. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. The dream is to be a scratch golfer or somewhere in that world. And uh I don’t I don’t know if that’s going to happen. And so I’ve been a little bit pickier when it comes to my footwear, like wearing spiked instead of wearing integrated traction. I’ll do integrated traction on the range, but when I play, I’ll wear I’ll wear spiked. So, yeah, I’m I’m I’m stuck in the in the middle with those two as well. Good call. Good call. That’s a good one. Basketball always wins. Um, all right. Now, this one has sort of sneaker again. It’s It’s in that middle gap. It’s the uh It’s Scotty Sheffler shoe with Nike. The Nike Victory Tour. Is it Tour Pro? Nike Victory Nike Victory Pro 4. Pro 4. Yep. Victory Victory Pro 4. Yeah. the Victory Pro 4. Um, surprisingly good. I did not expect these. These caught me off guard. Uh, I was I was sent a pair and I put took them to the range and try them out and I was like, “Oh, this is this is actually nice.” I played around in them and they hold up really well on the course as well. It’s just not like a like a flash in the pan moment. So, I would I would say if you’re looking for something that’s outside of the sneaker space, but still like sneaker adjacent. Um, and then that’s the that’s the shoe to go for. And obviously Scotty has been playing crazy in them. So, that that also that also kind of helps, you know, when you put when you put them on your feet, you hope that some sort of like Scotty vibes come into your body with your swing. Um, although it never happened for me. H same same here. It’s the It’s funny because it’s not it’s not the I wouldn’t say it’s the best looking shoe, but it does get you into that Nike wheelhouse, right? As far as like that’s the best performer in Nike’s lineup currently. Like putting Jordan brand aside and all that stuff. It’s the best shoe that Nike makes in my opinion. And you know, it’s the one that I literally if I’m going to wear Spiked, like I said, I’ll wear it maybe one time a month. That is the one that is always in my car because it it it’s just a dang good shoe. Like of all the shoes we’re talking about today, it’s probably the best like legitimate performer. Like if if you had to play a competitive round in any of the shoes that we’ve talked about so far, that’s the one you’re going to pick 100%. And it has it has like Air Max sort of vibes. Uh it it’s not like exactly like a one when it comes to like an Air Max sneaker, but it does definitely sit in that world where you could feel like it’s it’s sneakerish. Uh, it does have traditional spikes, so it’s not something that you’re going to be able to wear off the course. Um, although with the style of it, I’m not sure it necessarily lends itself to being worn off the course, but on course, it it has enough of the sneaker vibe that if you’re a sneaker head, you can kind of get away with it if that’s sort of like the the the vibe that you’re going for. Okay. Uh, and then my last pick is the Adidas Gazelle. Now, I love this one just because it’s very classic, very old school, and of all the shoes that I’ve talked about today, this is the one that I feel like uh really exists on and off the course really well. Um the Jordan one, I mentioned it earlier, it can work on and off the course as well, but they tend to get beat up pretty quickly um for what you for what you pay for them. uh as opposed to the Gazelle, which I think holds up really well to to rounds from walking, from the range, from playing all of those those different pieces of the game of golf. Um, and they can transition very well off of the course as well. So, if you just like if you’re like Connor and you come from the office and want to go hit some balls, you can come come fly up in a pair of of gazels during the day and wear those same things on the go on the course or on the range. And I just think they re work really well. And Adidas has done a great job with the colorways. They’re doing a great job with the materials. They’ve kind of re recrafted them a little bit to make them more fitting for the golf course, so you have a little more structural stability in certain places that you wouldn’t necessarily get with a regular Gazelle. Um, they are integrated traction, so you’re not getting the traditional spikes, but I think if that’s the look and feel you’re going for, then the Adidas Gazelle is kind of a kind of a no-brainer. And they’re not crazy expensive either. That’s another thing with some of these golf. Some of these golf shoes we’re talking about are in the two 220 $220 range. A Gazelle, I believe you can get like a pair of Gazelle for like 150 140 something like that. Maybe. I think the premium premium is 140. I think this typical is 130, I think. So, yeah. So, like I mean, if you if you’re looking to save a little money and still get a good golf shoe that you can wear off the course, I think the Gazelle is the way to go. Yeah. It’s funny. Adidas right now, even just in the originals lineup, even with what we’ve talked about today, they have a shoe for like every to every type of golfer, I guess, is what I mean to say. Like the equipment pair, the equipment pair is for the more serious golfer. Course cup probably sits in the middle. It’s got better traction than the Gazelle, but it’s not quite as good as the equipment pair with the boost. And the Gazelle is more of the the me type of guy who’s just at the office and goes to the range. So again, Adidas especially has like a shoe for every type of golfer, especially the sneaker head. So that that’s why that’s that brand that I I tend to gravitate towards most often. Yeah, they they are in a fantastic space right now and I just hope they keep that energy going. I know that the golf space doesn’t necessarily give the returns that most people want. Um, but I think with the energy that they’re bringing and the position that they’re in, they can really set the bar for what things look like in the golf space, especially on the more like stylish culture, like street culture, sneaker side that is really getting into the world of golf now. So, it’ be exciting to see what they continue to do. Yeah, 100%. Well, let me round it out with my last pair. Um, and you mentioned these already, um, but the Tiger Woods 13. Okay, so you talked about how Jordan Brand used to use his soul. There’s just this is the I talk about this with basketball all the time, too, but like take me back to the glory days of Nike. Okay, like this right here is the epitome of like when Nike golf was in its prime. There is not a better shoe. I don’t know if Nike will ever make a better golf shoe in my opinion than this with the free soul. I mean, I was in junior high school during the whole free run movement, right, when that first became a thing. And everyone wanted a pair of the LivStrong free runs. And so taking that sole, good spikes, good cushion, there’s just very few things that I can find that are wrong with this shoe. So when they brought this back a few years ago was awesome. Sucks to see Tiger not there anymore, but nonetheless, this shoe is still the best that Nike has ever done in my opinion. One 100% I absolutely agree. It is the shoe that I think opened the door for the way that sneakers are a part of golf these days. Uh, the TWW13 was the first time like I saw sneaker guys being like, “Oh, I’m going to I like these golf shoes.” Otherwise, like generally, I felt like we just played in golf shoes before. But when the TWW13 came along, it felt like this was a moment in the sneaker space that really kind of changed the trajectory of what brands felt they could do with their heritage brands and with the with the other technologies that they have within the within their houses. And it really made a big difference. It’s like I’m a big fan of the TWW13. I probably have like four or five pairs in storage right now. Um just cuz they’re so they’re just so they’re so good from the from the 13 to probably like the TWW15. Like Nike was on like a crazy crazy run in the golf space. Um it does suck that Tiger isn’t there anymore. And I think that probably means we won’t see those come back or they’ll come back under a different name which is going to be super weird. Oh yeah. But it’s a it’s a good it’s a good golf shoe. It’s a good golf shoe. There’s no denying that that it’s a it’s a great golf shoe. So, love that. Good call. Good call. Now, I have a bonus. Oh. Um I didn’t even think of a bonus, so hit me with it. No, just Well, I’m just saying cuz like now that you say the TWW13, Jordan Brand did a lot of retros of their golf shoes with the TWW13 as the base. So really, if you find any of those, um although I imagine those will probably be a little more expensive, those are going to you’re going to have to get those on the resale market. So if you’re not into doing resale for golf for golf shoes, um then probably stay away from. But I would say anything with that TWW13 bottom that Jordan brand created back then cuz it’ll give you that actual feel of a traditional spiked golf shoe um with the Jordan sort of style on top. So yeah, that’s my call. That’s just a quick This is a quick bonus. Just throw it out there. Just throw it out there for the for the for those with the money that want to spend resell money on. Not me, brother. I would love a pair of the threes, but I ain’t doing it. Yeah. Yeah. It’s expensive. Expensive. Well, um, so those are our thoughts on helping you as a golfer or I guess I say as a sneaker head transition into the golfer space. Now, there’s tons of options out there and the things that we mentioned today, I would say Connor priced from let’s say like 130 120 130 to about 220. Yep. Right. Yeah. Yeah. Um, so I mean that’s a that’s a good space to start. If you if you want to spend a little extra, you can, but you don’t you don’t have to. And that’s the beauty of the golf space. I know it always seems like everything is super expensive and the shoes are expensive, but everything is not super expensive. You just kind of got to look around and find the things that work for you. And there’s a lot of things that we have in this list um that I think works. Uh any last words, Connor, as the as the actual expert on golf? Uh the as the actual expert on golf, no. But as Connor, I’d just say buy and wear what you like is always the number one thing to do. Uh don’t don’t need to care what other people say. You don’t even have to listen to our advice. If you see something and you think it looks cool, wear it. Um whether it makes you better or not, doesn’t matter. It it matters if you feel good, look good, and so wear what you like. Love that. Love that. That’s Connor from My Golf Spy. I’m Jacques Slade from I guess YouTube. I guess that’s where I live. Uh, thank you guys for watching. Make sure you subscribe to both channels. Make sure you subscribe to My Golf Spy. Obviously, subscribe to my channel as well. Uh, leave us a comment below if you think there’s a golf shoe that you think as a sneaker head you feel like should be mentioned.
