I Take On Alex Elliott In A 9 Hole Strokeplay!

Over the coming months, I will be playing some of the best golfers I know on YouTube to get my skills ready for next season and hopefully accomplish the my first win. And today’s guest is none other than Alex Elliot, who you recently saw on the channel in the 30 shot challenge. But we had to get you back, Alex. I’m looking forward to it. You were a fan favorite. That’s what I like to hear. That’s what we want. We’re playing nine-hole stroke play in an aid for me to get better. I’m taking on some of the best golfers I know. You are one of them. We’re playing straight up stroke play here at Forby. Ladies and I need showing around here a little bit. This is your second home. So true. You You’ve not been here. If you haven’t already, go and check out the video over on Alex’s channel that we’ve done on the front nine. But we’re going to play the back nine here. This is What’s a good score then? Round here. The back nine today. Like it looks lovely by the way. It’s about 3° with a minus 4 windchill today. So, I would say the back nine is harder than the front nine because it’s a little bit tighter. In summer, three, four under is good. Today, one or two. Okay. Wins it. I would say one or two. What would you be happy with? Never played it. Never played it. Have you? Completing the nine. Right. I’m going to give you the honor. So, it’s a par five to start. This one’s pretty much as you see you see the flag up there in the distance. That bunker out there on the right is at 310 yd. That’s okay cuz it’s about a gap wedge from there. That was nice. I just imagined that was just going to bleed back on that wind then. So the it’s a dog leg from left to right. You can obviously see left to right. It’s either like a four iron down and a gap where John or or driver at the left corner of the green. So you can see the flag, the red flag. Yeah. If you went, you can see the 10th T in the distance. Yeah. You just go straight at that. That where that like sort of Okay. Yeah. See like the J. You can see a little bowl, can’t you? Yes. And we’re saying this winds just straight off our right. I say it’s bloody cold is what it is, lad. It’s peaked. And it’s perfect. How’s it good? Don’t think I’ve got much better than that. Yeah, that was It should just be like below the bowl. Every time I hear Matt in the corner of my ear saying straightest drive on YouTube, there just the level of pressure goes up another notch. You like me, Dad? He’s dead straight. Please get down. It’s right at the base of that tree. Left to right winds in winter, like in 10 layers, is just an unplayable shot for me. That’s what I feel on a right to left wind. I didn’t think this would, but this wind is making me doubt it. Why don’t you do that first time? That’s beauty that. What do you reckon you’d shoot if you had a provision? I’ probably only improved, but I want it’s it’s where do you take it? It’s the thing, isn’t it? You take it on the put like for example, right? I’d say you take it on the put unless you hit a bad shot. It’s like what you going to improve? Like, how am I going to improve that one? You go. You can’t. But, well, bar my first one. But you put it’s like but then you’re not going to hold a 20 footer. You could though, couldn’t you? You’re not going to hold a wedge more than likely. No, it’s so true. So I reckon you probably get two better. One or two better? Yeah. Not that much. 152 to the middle, 136 to the front. I think judging on the last hole, it’s definitely not eight iron. I’m going to hitch the comfy nine. I’m gonna play it similar to that seven iron into the 10 first go. A good looking shot. Go. Try shy but very good. It’s good but right in between clubs I reckon maybe with feet. 115 to the flag. I’ve got 50. This is my provisional ball. So, need to hit a good one here. Go. Yeah, lovely shot, mate. Nice number. 10 ft roughly. We need to knock it in now. I know I keep saying this, but just look at that. That’s just How good does it look when the sun’s starting to go down and the the shadows are just dancing across the fairway. A majestic little light dance golf. Go. It looked like it was going to be stone dead there. It’s just I know. Just struggled up the hill. Really need this to go in. Little bit of left to right on it. It’s a left edge put. Tell you what, it’s a clutch five, Alex. That is clutch. It’s a clutch five. That was impressive. For all the people out there that said my putting’s gone bad. Yeah. What now? Keeps me one behind. All dependent on this. This is a real matchplay situation in the stroke play game. If uh Alex were to miss this, I would feel like his brain would be in a colander right now. How is the colander wiggled on you? It’s that time of year, isn’t it? They just have a little little sneak elsewhere and it’s tough to get them back online. Bogey bogey. Nowhere. Both level. Just going to go and stand over it for a second. Go and roll in this course bush. I mean, Matt’s giving me a pep talk walking off that last tour. He’s like, “Why did you two iron the straightest driver?” Not my words. They’re his. Um, bad when Matt Fry’s giving you a pep talk, you know. No, you know what? To be fair, every time you give me one, it’s been it’s been good. Okay, so 290 to the green here. 277 front. I just going to go driver, I’m going to listen to your pep talk. Go for it. Go for it. I’m in three minds here. Can we have 170? So, I’m going to hit a four iron today. Completely different play. It looks so different from down here on this front tea, even though it’s only 20 yards forwards. See, listen to Matt Fry, everybody. Matt Fry, you just talked me into a great ball there. 30 yard pitch. Now you’re laughing. 30 yards. You want to say it’s gone 250? Yeah, it’s harsh. Slappy. Get down. Is that going just clambered in? Just clambered into the heather. It’ll do. Would you not just aim further left? No, cuz then No. And I stand up doing this, steering it, and then hit an even bigger slice. So, I just take them. They should be banned. I’m going to throw something out there since you’ve given me a bit of wisdom. Go on. Why not just aim further on the left and really try to move it? Well, I did that on uh on the 10th and I hit it dead straight. I aimed in between those poles and hit it dead straight. So, it’s like then what’ you do? Yeah. Okay. Fair. Very nicely judged out. further than I thought cuz it I thought bit wasn’t going to make the green then the way it came out but almost like hung in the air and you’ve spent as much time in there as I have you know how to play them two mines really don’t know whether to how far have you got 45 I’ve rounded it up 40 38 to the middle that was well played that was very well played sit I thought it was stiff and hit that. I still have a shot, but it just seems to have rolled out a bit more. That was decent that the game is on the standard. Bringing Alex on my standard bar that slice off the last tea and the tea before it. It’s all about the score though. He’s chopping. No, you’re just a cruel game. How’s that not gone in at dead weight? Thought I had that. Got it. It went in and I nearly and it Yeah, how those two have not gone in from the foot out. Anyway, stupid game anyway. Stupid. Who cares? Yeah, golf. Really glad I hit driver took all that trouble on. It’s come off the path. Well worth it. Well worth the stress. Could have just hit 79. 79. 369 yds this one. Alex, good hole. It’s actually got probably about 10% wider since we started filming here. You never be used to be able to see. See how the final bunker is? Yeah. There was gor about 10 yards left of that and you wouldn’t see all that portion of over there. That bunker’s playing 310. What you say playing today down when? 290. Yeah. What are the two on the right? They’re going to be 225. Are they? I think from memory they are 242 243. Can’t be my thumb. 240. So, probably 225 with a wind, but it’s cold, so the plane 270. Is it? I I know you going to try and talk me into driver, but why wouldn’t you? Well, the only thing you should get it by by those with driver, shouldn’t you? Oh, yeah. All right. Well, why are we waiting then? Just Do you want me to wrap for you in future? Yeah, I do. Cuz you probably wouldn’t have been driver here, would you? I was just about to park it and two out. I don’t know why. If I if I had your driver, I’d be on tour. It’s a huge claim that what 230 off the tea. 230 off the tea. It’s a good padding in the I can’t go in. Can’t go in hitting it like that. Not going. I don’t think so. I think it’s going to be just shy. Right. Anyway, uh 130 yards. We pulled up just shy in the uh the rough grass there. Straight downwind. I’m going all out 50 here. It is cold now. This is normally my 128 club, but the downwind should help it, but the coldness will not. Oh no. I caught like it. I left the face a tad open, but actually pin high about 15t on the green. We’re okay. It was a good miss. That one little mistake we made on the uh on the par fours cost me, but other than that, we’ve done okay so far. Oh, big. How big? No. Hotly green, but that was a lovely flight. I was licking my lips all over that. You’re doing it so well off the tea. You’d be a great for partner. Just missed the green from 90 yards. Go in then. Go in. I’ll tap that in for you. Thank you, sir. Well done. Great fall. A stressful fall from a drive like that. Yeah, you did the hardest bit. So, I’m trying to pitched it there. I was trying to pitch it on that step like 15 yards out to go to go into the lead. This Yeah, it goes right to left at the start and then goes left to right at the end. Predominantly the left to right will be the the biggest part of it. Come on, Matthew. Out. You’ve been robbed a few times. Not today though. Aggressive. Get in. There we go. We got there in the end. Poor putt. Poor. I think the wind held it up. It’s biting now. Biting. How far? Till hypothermia sets in. 10 minutes. 10 minutes. Uh 133 we have Alex which is playing about 160 I would suggest now I think an eight iron. Yeah into the wind out the left a little. Yeah those sort of fiddly shots aren’t they that you’ve got to it’s like a nine iron really but then you have to hit an eight iron to chip it. This is where being in control of your golf swing and golf ball is a huge help. Usually happens when you’ve got less layers on and completely handsome. Feel your digits. Won’t be long till Pinehurst. That is so cruel. It was a little pacey, wasn’t it? Yeah. I mean, yeah. I’ve seen other putts go in with like more pace than that, though. Yeah. So cruel. As long as we’re giving ourselves chances, that’s all we can ask for. So, both level, two to play. This next hole looks like it’s straight on my street, left to right. You got two drivable holes as well. For me, it’s like, oh, how do I avoid the go? Oh, what do I poke here with a clap? So, it’s 250 to those two bunks on the right. Yeah. And also, they’re on the right of the fairway, so you won’t be there cuz you’ll be in the middle. I just think it’s super narrow for driver there. How can it be narrow when you move it three yards? You could play down that path there. You got high expectations of me a driver. You have to prove me wrong. There he is. Yeah. See, your problem there was you didn’t aim down the middle. It’s fine there. You’ve just run into the the semi, but it’s cuz you actually aimed exactly where it went. I was trying to move it a bit to be fair. Like I tried to I gripped down on that, too. Why would you try moving it when it goes straight? Cuz I just don’t feel comfortable letting driver. It’s like putting the square peg in the triangle hole. It’s just pointless. That had one yard. Like if I hit that driver every time I just aim at the middle of every fairway softly. Bit necky. Bit necky. See that 15 yards of movement on it. That was a freewood. Yeah, you’re right. It is getting bitter out here now. It is getting bitter. 93 yards out of the uh the old Heatherino. Going to be a good 54. This can go 34 in a bit full speed and it force it forward with a little lack of spin out of the heather. So, got to get in close. It’ be great to get ahead here. It’s just got the weirdest ball flight ever that just on the front edge. It’s hard to judge out of that stuff. Need to be like Alex and just hit it straighter. 71 to the front. First miss 54. No, it’s just not even come out. It’s just not even come out. Oh dear. Did it dig? It just came out like I hit it with me head cover on it. It’s like hitting through coral reef isn’t it? It’s horrible. Like Right. Well, I need to get up and down there. Flag is at the front. That was the maddest sensation. I thought I’d try to hit like 10% harder. Not even carve way. Very well played. Thanks, mate. Just a little It’s a little bit left to right on me more than I thought. Got about a sleeve of golf balls. That would be three balls of break here. Roll him in. Got to go in that one. Fine. You kind of found my putting feeling bit again cuz like I’m upset that I’m not hold. Yeah. I 30 footer. It’s always a pretty good thing, right? Yeah. Well, it’s not. And it is. The good thing is they’ve all had like a really good chance of going in. Just the golf said no. Well held, sir. Confident. That was a big put. Confident. Big big put. Wind off the right. Alex is hitting driver and we all know where it’s going down the left. I on the other hand begin the fireworks. 67 to carry 267 to carry those bunkers downwind. 316 to the front. I can’t even see the green. Uh it’s right below the clock tower. Okay. And that’s right half of the green. You’re going to say right edge of the green. Yeah. Okay. That should carry the trap. I hit that good, but it’s a bit right. I saw it bounce. My eyes are that good. I hit that really good. It was in line with the trap. So, it’s either in it or over it. Going to be positive. Over it in the rough then. Yeah. Nice ball down the middle. Get to that trap. That’s all right, is it? Yeah. Game on. 98 yards. 98 down the wind. Just a 54 degree to shoulder. Come on. Let’s two birdies there. That’d be nice, wouldn’t it? We have a birdies. If one ps, one under wins. You did say I pull hooked it short and zip in high 20 ft. We’ve got a chance. We’ve got a chance.
