Why is Rory McIlroy playing in Crown Australian Open this week? | Golf Central | Golf Channel
https://www.youtube.com/golfchannel?sub_confirmation=1

This week in Royal Melbourne at Royal Melbourne Golf Club will be the host site for the Australian Open. And you’ve got big name world number two Roy Moy headlining the field. First round live coverage starting this Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. Eastern here on Golf Channel. Now, let’s just remind ourselves of exactly how international Rory schedule has been since July. He’s teed up in eight different countries and four different continents from Scotland, Northern Ireland, over to Georgia, back to Ireland where he won in emphatic style at his home open at the K Club in that playoff. Back to England for the BMW PGA, over to New York for the RDER Cup. Then he touched base in India at the DP World India Championship. Then over to the UAE where he picked up his seventh race to Dubai title. and he is now teeing it up this week in Australia and he touched down today down under. So Paige, there is no need for Rory to put this much effort into traveling the globe playing this game, but for some reason this year it’s been a big focus of his and he’s growing the game, I think, single-handedly by the schedule that he’s planned out for him. Why do you think he has decided to visit so many countries over the last few months? Well, two two parts to this. I think when you’re playing great golf, you want to keep playing great golf. And obviously, it’s been a banner year for Rory Moy. Secondly, and he’s alluded to this, that he wants to attack his schedule in a way that suits him, his lifestyle, his family, and his interests. And he does like to keep it fresh and go to different places. Uh, at least that’s what he’s alluded to. And I think that’s part of it. When you you’ve been on tour for so long, a lot of players at a certain point, you’ve played the same golf courses over and over and over again, players end up betting on their practice rounds just to keep interest and keep your focus because there is this monotonous routine that players go through week in and week out on tour, especially going to familiar places. So perhaps that’s why we’re seeing India on the schedule, Australia on the schedule this late in the year. Um to keep a little freshness to his schedule as well as as I mentioned, he’s playing great golf. Why not? Why not enjoy around the world? Everywhere he goes, he is just beloved by golf fans. He brings in these fantastic crowds. The field out there in India had the best week of their life. And it was such an honor to see Rory inside the ropes. So keep doing what you’re doing, Rory. It’s a lot of fun to see him teeing it up all around the world in these final few months of the year.

  1. Plus Rory can see where his game is competively instead of at home. This is his 6th start since the tour championship and he is making his 2026 debut on the DP World tour. There is a 2nd tournament is South Africa, Nedbank Golf Challenge honoring Gary Player.

  2. Answer…Because it's not America. Forget the cash,he's got a squillion ice cold frothies waitin' for him. Cheers Champ.🇦🇺🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻
