Most golfers they try to lift it, scoop it, or spin it and end up chunking or blading it.

[Music] [Music] I like to work on landing spots as another drill. Um, so basically I grab two clubs. I’ll put them out in the spot where I’m wanting or seeing the ball land. I really work on landing positions and not necessarily focusing on the hole at all points. So, you’ll notice there I’ve got a club, two clubs on the ground, maybe a yard to two yards apart. And as a as a pro, I like I like to teach practicing basically with purpose and making practice more difficult than what you would on the course. So, here I’m going to finish with maybe 10 chip shots, trying to land as many as I can in that landing zone, and I’ll give myself a bit of a score. So that’s one out of one just to make it a little bit more uh or make me more golf or tournament ready. It’s something you can do when you’re playing or preparing for your Saturday comp. It’s a good way to practice. There’s no point going out and practicing the wrong things. Two out of two. That one came out a little bit low and a little bit hot. You can see it’s run past, but I did get my landing spot. So that’s a pass. This next one I might open the face a little bit. go a little bit more dead hand or that missed my landing spot just by a mill, but I nearly hold it. And you can see how dialed this gets you. If you can get your landing spot correct, you’re in a really good position. Two out of four, but I’ve hold the shot. Have I? Nope. Just on the edge. And testing yourself. Another thing I would say, give yourself a consequence. So, if you don’t hold if you don’t get as many out of 10 that you normally would, or maybe last week you got six out of 10 and this week you you’re on that last one, it’ll fire fire you up to that missed it again. It’ll fire you up to do better next week. If you give yourself a consequence, maybe like push-ups or sit-ups or no glass of wine with dinner tonight or something like that. But let’s see if I can finish off hauling a couple. Hit the club. That counts. So, basically, what’s this what this going to do is put you under that pressure that you need. I can kind of feel my heart rate elevating just that little bit towards the end knowing I have to do a good job of that missed again. But again, a good shot. So, you can see how important this is to you to your game. Just putting yourself under that. uh I suppose game time pressure. And you can notice as I’m doing this, I’ve changed my technique several times just to figure out what one’s best for me on this day to do with the lies. So I’ve started with a a square face, working in nice to the ball with a little bit more lean and then I’ve as a result obviously wanting a little bit more height and flight. Um, I’ve then opened the face and created a little bit more vertical approach to the back swing. Gets a little bit more spin like that. Probably too much. And if you’re after that crisp shot, then this is what you’re looking for. Now, if you get yourself in a situation where you’re in a a bit of an awkward lie, say there’s uh you’re in the rough or there’s grass behind your ball, uh like you can see here, you need to create a steeper angle of attack. And you do not ever decelerate. Um so, basically what I do is make sure I hit down on the ball. The further down you can hit it, I believe, the the further the or the higher the ball’s going to pop up in the air. So, if it’s in a situation like this, same thing applies. I’m going to lean forward and I’m going to stay really stable with my upper body and chest. I’m going to get my hands working up vertically and I’m going to stab down into the ball. And you can see it will create a little bit more top spin than normal because the the lies um not as I suppose good as previously. So you’re going to get a bit of friction between the club face and the ball with the rough. So allow for a little bit of release uh when doing that. I’ll hit one more for you so you can see. So, it’s it’s leaning forward more, keeping your sternum still, and then up and down out of that divot. And it pops up, it’s going to get a nice bit of top spin on it, and it’s going to go close to the hole. You’ll be able to get up and down out of the rough. Thanks for watching. Hope this helped you with the chipping. Be sure to like and subscribe. And if you have any questions, please DM me on Wharton Studio on Instagram. And uh New South Wales Open again coming up in a couple of weeks. So, it’s really good to to get some chipping practice and take you guys along with me. Um hopefully I don’t miss any greens in regulation so I don’t have to chip. I suppose that would be something you’re looking at doing yourself. So, good luck and uh hit them hit them straight.

  1. Terrible video. Guy showed his chipping technique from only one angle would’ve been better if he had shown it from the side angle instead of from behind him.. I goy nothing out of this video
