Cam Smith was lost for words as he attempted to find his form in the waning weeks of 2025.
Smith missed his seventh straight cut at the Australian PGA Championship in front of a home crowd at Royal Queensland, registering a four-over 75. As such, the 32-year-old has fallen to No. 345 in the Official World Golf Rankings, a precipitous drop in form from being the former No. 2 and 2022 Open Championship winner.
Speaking to reporters after missing the cut yet again, Smith did not hold back on his assessment regarding his play. There are some, like former pro Mark Allen, who believe that the 32-year-old’s decline coincided with his decision to switch to LIV Golf, as the competition is not up to par with the PGA Tour.

“Yep, it was s—,” Smith said of his performance at Royal Queensland, which saw him miss his seventh straight cut. As he explained his performance, the Australian shared that his lack of success has left him perplexed, as he continues to search for answers to his declining play.
“If you had have told me that was going to happen this morning, when I was warming up, I’d have told you otherwise,” he continued to reporters after the fact. “I don’t know, I just don’t know. I am so confused. I was feeling good, really confident and just couldn’t get anything going.
“It was weird. I was in between clubs a lot today. Hit a couple of bad shots that I would have liked to have again. Drove the ball well .. hit a lot of nice shots. Tough lies killed me today … and then couldn’t get up and down.”

Smith’s comments after he faltered at Royal Queensland come after the 32-year-old painted a picture of a man searching for answers when speaking to reporters prior to the event. While speaking to the media in the days leading up to the tournament, Smith admitted that he was looking to change the course of the year so far.
“Yeah, that would be cool,” the LIV star told Australian Golf Digest. “I haven’t really thought about that because I’ve been playing like c— but that would be awesome, and maybe that’s a good thing to think about and get me amped up for this week.”
Of note, Smith’s young son, Remy, was among the crowd as the former looked to win his first event with his child in attendance. However, it was just not meant to be for the Australian star.

With his seventh straight cut in the books, Smith understands what he needs to do to get back on track, though the LIV star understands that he will have to get his mind in the right place for him to turn things around.
“It can definitely get in your head, I think it is in my head; It’s just frustrating,” he continued, per Bunkered. “It’s been my story of the year, feel I’ve worked hard all year and got nothing out of it.
“I do know what the answer is, it’s just to keep working hard and try to be patient. I’ve tried to do all the right stuff, for whatever reason it’s not coming together on the course.”
Smith will have one more chance to end his year on a high note, with the 32-year-old having an opportunity to turn things around at Royal Melbourne for the Australian Open.
