Flyer Or NOT? @CogornoGolf
So, what causes a flyer out of the rough? The big thing when you got your golf ball and your club is anything that’s going to go between the club and the golf ball makes the spin go way down. And that spin going way down makes the ball fly out. Now, we’ve got a couple of different lies here in the rough. We got four different ones. Ball number one here we have sitting up on the grass with the grass going down grain. That would be ideal when the grass is going with us and the ball’s sitting up. That ball’s going to want to fly out of there, especially if I’ve got some grass between my club and the golf ball. That’d be an easy one. Super good. Right in front of it. Literally only an inch in front of it. Still down grain with the grass, but look how that ball’s sitting down. Now, all of a sudden, that ball’s going to come out more dead. That’s not going to fly. I’m going to have to take more club than normal. I hop over here. Now, the grass literally just a couple inches away is towards me. That’s into the grain. This ball’s sitting up, so it won’t be too bad, but into the grain is still going to come out softer or dead. Air on taking more club there. This would be worst case scenario. The ball’s sitting down and into the grain. It’s going to come out super dead. Don’t expect a lot out of there. So, you got to be able to judge your lie, choose the club, and play the shot accordingly.
