Did Tour Edge just make the best irons in golf? Something special is here and I was shockingly surprised.

Brand new from Tour Edge, we have in our hot little hands the Tour exotic iron lineup. The whole set I have the MBS, which is muscle back. So, forge construction here. There’s some incredible technology they have inside of it as well, which we’re going to put to the test. And also they have sent along the cavity back version of the 7iron and then their max version of the 7ir iron as well. So we’ll get to compare each 7 iron together to see which one really is right for you. But right out of the gate, these muscle backs, it’s been a minute since I’ve played a fully forged muscle back iron. And I have to say, the look of these is absolutely spectacular. And what they’ve done on the back here and really close to the face is kind of hollowed out a little section and they have what they call the Vibra core technology. It’s an insert they put in there to help out as if muscle backs when you hit it great. don’t already have enough incredible feel, even better feel. So, it’s like a vibration dampening, enhancing little polymer they put back in there to make it feel even better, sound even better, and hopefully, we’ll see, perform even better. They have that technology in the muscle back, the cavity back, as well as the max. However, in their Max, they have also what they call their pyramid face technology. So, basically, anywhere you hit it on the club face is designed to get maximum ball speed even for those offc center hits. And we have this 360 undercut technology on here to really help out the player in that, let’s say, game improvement iron category. So, let’s get things underway. We’ll just hit a few pitching wedges right out of the gate because I want the wedge to feel spectacular with the muscle back and we’ll see what kind of performance we get out of her. Here we are. Foresight quadmax technology for our launch monitor. Looking down at this, I love the look. Nice sleek muscleback design. Also, just so you know, we’re using a dynamic gold 100 S300 midkick shaft for you uh techies out there. So, you know, and what kind of feel performance do we get out of this? All right, right out of the gate, it felt amazing. I do have to say I like that Viber Core technology they have in there. Pitching wedge feels amazing. What I want to know is for a lot of us out there as we get up in age, we drift away from that muscle back because it’s just very difficult to get consistent strikes. So, if we’re hitting it all over the face and not as consistent as we like to be, then we go up to a little more of a cavity back, something with a little more forgiveness. So, we’ll hit one more of these. I just want to get a good gauge. Okay, that was pure. It felt like nothing. Phenomenal feel. I like what they’ve done. I’ve hit a number of muscle backs in my day, and this feels like that without like that heavy thud, which is good, but it’s more of a softer feeling thud, if that makes sense. And I’m guessing it’s because of the Viber Core insert technology they got back there. So, now we’re going to compare apples to apples. First off is our exotics MB forged 7iron. The loft on this 7iron 32° and the CB is the same 32° pitching wedge 46 for both of those. So, your conventional loft setup for these two. This is the MB. And let’s see how this seven iron feels. Yes. Yes, please. I don’t even think I hit it in the sweet spot. And so what I want to look for is okay, slight toe hit. That’s fine. I still got a good descent angle at 44 degrees. And my carry number was decent. That was a better strike. That feels really good. Yeah, that was a great strike. That’s more my normal carry with my 7iron 162. Wow. And a little higher ball flight. I have to say typically when I go to a muscle back versus what I conventionally play with, I lose like 10 yards. It’s not a big deal. You just have to know that that’s pretty standard. Oh, that felt even better. I know I missed it a little right, but I hit it pure. That’s the feeling you want. Wow. The look is spectacular. Just looking down at the ball. It looks excellent. Yes. Okay, we’ll do one more of these. I can’t say I hated any of the shots in terms of feel, sound, and performance. And that, yeah, that’s right there where I typically like to live. Now, maybe I’m losing a little bit of yards, like three or four, but not much. And normally with a muscle bag, it’s like 10. I like the feel of this. All right, let’s move to the cavity back. I had to double check. I went back. I’m like, was I hitting the cavity back on accident? No, I’ve been hitting the muscle back. Now, the cavity back. And just looking down at these, very similar look. The only difference is the top line on the muscle back is slightly thinner than the top line of the cavity back. That’s up here. So the top edge that’s going to be a little bit thicker and it just helps distribute weight a little better so they can move stuff around and just give you a little extra forgiveness up the face. So we’re keeping everything the same. Greens in the same spot. All we did was switch to the cavity back version of the exact same club, same shaft, same everything. Loft on this exactly the same as the muscle back. So, let’s see if we have more, less, whatever. Performance, distance, feel, you name it. Different feel a little bit. I didn’t hit it 100% great. So, I’m going to hit it touch fat. But I’ll tell you what, for just behind the ball, I love that. But I mis hit the first one of the other club as well. Yeah, that feels great. It’s a different feel. I’ll be honest with you. The feel is slightly different. I like the feel of one of them better than the other. Let me just get another strike here and see. Now, I hit that one really well. That’s interesting. It’s not going farther. It’s going about the same. And I hit that one really well. I think to be honest, I prefer the sound and feel of the muscle back. Maybe that’s just because I’m used to it. I hit that one really well now. Yeah, that one might be a little a little better than the other ones. Yeah, that’s my longest one. I might have to I might have to change my my thought on that cuz I hit that one really well and that was like, oh, that’s the feel. That’s the feel. I I did like that one. I like the pop I got off the club face. Yeah. All right, that was the same thing. Little more hook, a little more distance. So, we’re getting a little bit more distance, but uh yeah, I think I do prefer the feel of the muscle back over this cavity back personally. But I can tell you this, the misses on here when you mish hit it, not a problem. So you got a little bit more forgiveness here with the cavity back. And then when you connect one, forget it. 168 carry. And I think the other one was roughly 162. So five or so yards more with this club and more height. So that’s that’s always a good thing. There you go. That’s That’s a smooth swinging 7 iron. I love that. This is easy to hit. And that viro core technology they have in there. It’s spectacular for sound and feel. And I love how the look is very, very similar to that muscle back. Identical. I mean, we’re talking like a millimeter or less thickness of the top leading edge or the top line. So, all we have left is the max to see cuz maybe you want everything. And let’s see if this performs. I always get a little excited when I’m hitting these uh game improvement irons with like the max cuz your seven iron, you just don’t know. It could go 200 yards. Some of these companies just really goose these up. The loft on this basically is less. So, they lower the loft. So it’s some people call it loftjacking. It’s not really. What it is is because of how they construct the head. They have to lower the loft. So you have traditional seveniron window look, right? It goes like it seven iron even though it’s more like a sixiron loft. It’s basically one club loft off, but it will fly not like a sixiron in terms of height. So they just change the numbers. That’s typically why you would do that. But here we go. The max. Wow. Yeah. This almost looks like we’re hitting some like hybrid iron, which I don’t Hey, if you like that kind of thing, that’s awesome. Okay, I’ve hit these game improvements before and I don’t like them. That one I liked. I love the Viber Core technology. I love the pyramid face technology. They have that with their drivers and their woods. And now it’s in this Max Club 7 iron. There’s one other thing I think I really dig about this. Oh, it sounded like I shot a gun. That thing 175 carry. Back that green up real quick. I love the soul of this club. It’s got like this channel in here. Almost reminds me of some of those older fairway clubs that had these rails on the bottom. I like that. Especially when you’re talking about a larger face uh of an iron because that means you’re just going to have more turf interaction with the sole. So the more you can do down on the sole, the the easier it is going to be. Now you might be saying, “Hey, they’re all going right.” And they are. You’d be correct in that assumption. But why is that, do you think? And it’ll just take a minute to straighten it out. But sometimes when you just get that larger head that you’re looking down and swinging mentally, you don’t want to shut the face as much. So you just got to kind of get used to it. But man, I really I really like it. Oh, I hit that one probably the best 176 carry. Too many times I get these max clubs and they sound hollow and I just can’t stand that. And I don’t care how far it goes. It It’s almost like you’re hitting like a hollow bat with a with a whiffle ball. It kind of has that feel and sound to it. And uh I’m not a fan of that. But something like 178 carry right at my green. Let’s look at the descent angle of that one because we want to get it high, right? You want that high number. 42. That’s not bad. This one went a little lower. So, might have been a little lower than a typical 7 iron, but we’re getting tons of ball speed off these. Oh, that was one of the best ones as well in terms of feel. Here’s what I think is is great. Ultimate feel without sacrificing too much in terms of distance and maximum control. The MB, fantastic. The CB, I really like that, too. But if you ask me, I like the MB better. But if you like a cavity back, then that CB might be a good option for you. And if you are a game improvement iron type of person or you need a little extra, I love that the seven doesn’t go 200 yards for me. I’ve hit clubs like that and then you you can only get to like a sixiron. Then you got to go into hybrids and woods and different. So this is fantastic. It just goes a little bit more and it’s a lot easier to hit. So, I’ll leave a link in the video description below for Tour Edge Exotics Irons, and uh you can see if there’s something there for you. Thumbs up from me. Love you guys. See you next time.

Tour edge continuing to make some amazing clubs. The CB and mb look great.
Discovered tour edge recently and purchased 4 clubs so far and love them. Got my wife a 6 ironwood and she had instant success with it first round, very forgiving, great height, and was able to get around course far better last couple of rounds. My 9W is fun and consistent.
And what’s also great is you can find deeply discounted clubs (new) from a couple years ago on their website and Rock Bottom’s site. Some on tour edge site you can still customize shaft length and # of wraps under grip. Waiting for heavy rain to pass so I can test out 3W (16.5*) that just arrived.
I played the c721 irons for a few years until I felt like I needed/wanted to be fitted. The last few years their irons haven’t looked great but wow they killed these. The rebrand was much needed
Gorgeous clubs.. they've actually had some sweet forged irons over the years. Entering the elite price range is a bold move for a traditionally high bang for buck option? On the nit picking side..looking at the stock specs, they have touch more offset than typical mb or player cbs, and consistent in all irons. Need to be sure you like that. At 180 per club or so..would you pick these over some of the more usual subjects in this category? Maybe…they certainly are good clubs. Doesn't seem TEs main audience. Wilson has made inroads getting back into the elite forged clubs conversation, so maybe TE can do it? 🤔
MSG you know hitting a cavity back or a muscle back iron if you hit it bad enough either towards the Tower of the heel you're going to feel it I've never used a big game improvement irons I'm not for sure how those feel I know distances dropped considerably with muscle backs if off-centered hit but all of us try to hit it in the middle if you're playing enough and practicing that's what you like to look at down at the ball I'd say play them
Best iron in golf is the Cobra 3d Tour, good for 20 handicap down to a PGA pro; test those and you'll see.
Good video. I'm a 77 year old 25 handicapper, and I'm thinking of getting a set of the max irons, but with the lofts so strong (7 iron is 27.5 degrees) ordering them 1 or 2 degrees weaker for better launch (yes, you can do that). What do you think?
Man those MB's look awesome! I wouldn't even mind the CB's in my bag
They may make a noise, but will anyone hear it? History says no…..
Like many Tour Edge products look for them on discount in about 6-9mos and then you get a great deal on the forged clubs.
TE really could do with some solid custom club fitting distribution over here in the UK. It would be great to try out some of their gear. It does look nice and seems to perform well.
Nice quiver in the background… I miss my San Diego days. Great review as well!
Larger club heads move the CG further from the hosel, making it more difficult to close the face based on feel. Companies will also distribute more weight to the toe because that's the common miss. So, a GI/SGI iron is going to to feel very different compared to CB/MB heads. Most GI models are 5-10 grams heavier per head than their bladed cousins.
Those are actually sexy
Very informative review, because it catches 3 groups of players in on video. This brand is catching my eye.
I am addicted to the CBs already
MSG. We Gonna see iron set #5 go in the bag ??? 😂 na something tells me your gonna stick with PXG GEN8
A lot of us, as we get up in age wise up and realize that the minimal potential for precision a muscle back offers over a players CB or distance iron is so small that even at our best we've never been able to consistently take advantage of it. Combine that with the fact that we quit caring what others think of the clubs we play and we gravitate to the type of club we should have been playing the whole time. We we didn't drift away from consistency and start hitrting the ball all over. We were always inconsistent when compared to what was needed to hit the tour quality shots time and again needed to make muscle backs actually matter. I stopped caring what people thought of the clubs I played about two years afer I started playing and being a tinker started building knock offs and because I practiced and learned the game I was beating pretty much every guy with his high end, name brand clubs. It was then I realized that brand and so called forgiveness was irrelevant compared to practice and knowing what works best for your game. The MB and the CB here are essentially the same club with maybe 20 grams of dicretionary weight moved in the CB. In other words, not enough to mean anything. If you can play one you can play the other. The difference is in your head. There is a difference in the Max and the other two but it takes that much differentiation to actually make a consistent difference over many rounds. If you like the feel of the MB it will not cost more than a shot or maybe two over three rounds to play it versus the CB. Clubs like the MAX help the guy who doesn't play or practice much have a chance to break 100 because it saves four or five shots a round over clubs similar to the CB and MB shown here but it will never take a 30 HC and make him a 15 HC if he doesn't put in the work.
Champions tour edge
Just bought the Max. 2 degree upright. Mid-size grips. Have not got them yet.
Tour Edge really needs to change their logo. It looks too much like Top-Flite. That may unintentionally turn some folks away
Any chance of reviewing the new Ben Hogan irons ??
I am disappointed in TE with this offering. To go from using the materials they did in their 700 series, to the material they are using for these AND charging almost twice is much is not a good business plan in my opinion. I loved their products because of their performance, but also the durability was second to none. My C721's are 5 years old, and extensively used. When I clean them up they still look virtually new. These new clubs are going to look like someone took them to war after a few years.
Congrats on grooving your recent lesson, keeping the width and firm wrists at your new top of the swing.
God those are gorgeous. For $1200 nobody is gonna buy them. I'd go Maltby for half the price all day. Love the staff mid lux vessel, I have it. Why didn't u play the barstool/bds invitational?
