After every week of the boys high school golf season, Cape Cod Times high school sports reporter Allen Gunn has selected his Cape and Islands Golf Lineup of the Week, and with the two-month sprint to the finish line completed, it’s time to see who made his Lineup of the Season.

Stellar play across the region made it tough week-to-week to select just eight players, and stellar play across the season will make it tough to name just eight players here.

There were several resumes that just missed out, including from All-Star selections and league champions. That’s how good play was this year out on course.

That individual success led to team success with 10 Cape and Islands teams qualifying for the postseason, which was one more than last October.

Both Nauset and St. John Paul II reached the Division 2 and Division 3 state championship, while Martha’s Vineyard’s Jacoby Light, Cape Cod Academy’s Ben Catalano and Sandwich’s Blaise Chatigny all advanced as individual competitors.

Although no one was able to replicate Monomoy’s runner-up finish at the Division 3 state championship a season ago, Nauset came within a scorecard playoff of matching that only to fall two shots short at Taconic.

Talent ran deep this season—as seen in eight different schools being represented in the Lineup of the Season—and long may that continue across the Cape and Islands.

Meet the 2025 Cape and Islands boys high school golf Lineup of the Season.

Pairing 1Colin Gleason, Barnstable

As far as individual seasons go, Gleason capped off his senior campaign by winning just about everything he could. For a third straight year, he won medalist honors at the Vineyard Golf Club High School Invitational, and for a second straight year he lifted the Walter Hewins Trophy at the Cape and Islands High School Golf Championship. He came as close as you could to winning the Cape Cod National Golf Club High School Invitational, where he lost in a four-way playoff. Gleason, who was a two-year team captain, posted a 37.1 nine-hole scoring average across the season. He’ll leave behind big shoes to fill.

Max St. Aubin, Nauset

St. Aubin had a strong senior year as he led the Warriors to a T2 finish at the Division 2 state championship behind a round of four-over 75. He posted two fourth place finishes in the postseason, turning in a five-over 77 at South Sectionals. St. Aubin bettered his junior scoring average by 0.3 strokes with a 37.5 average per nine holes. He was medalist in seven matches for the Cape and Islands Atlantic Division champions. His highlights included a runner-up finish at the Vineyard Golf Club High School Invitational, and third place finish at the Cape and Islands High School Golf Championship.

Pairing 2Alex Saunders, Sturgis West

Saunders picked up right where, former Navigator and current Merrimack College golfer, Mya Murphy left off. The sophomore backed up a strong freshman campaign by leading his team to a spot in the Division 3 South Sectionals. He carded a 16-over 88 in difficult conditions at Foxborough Country Club to finish an eight-way tie for 23rd. He matched that score at the Cape and Islands High School Golf Championship. Saunders led the Cape and Islands in scoring with a 36.9 average per nine holes as the team’s number one golfer.

Drew Richards, St. John Paul II

Richards led the Lions to a third-place finish at the Division 3 state championship after he carded a sensational seven-over 79 at Blissful Meadows Golf Club in a round that included four birdies, including three straight holes. The two-year senior captain took a massive step forward and led the team with a 38.3 shot average over the 18 matches he played in. He led the Lions with 12 rounds in the 30s, which included a one-under 34 in the win over Barnstable at Willowbend Country Club. Richards, who is a two-time Cape and Islands League All-Star, was a medalist in two matches.

Pairing 3Ben Catalano, Cape Cod Academy

Catalano’s eight-year storied career as a varsity golfer with the Seahawks came to a close at the Division 3 state championship, where he shot a 12-over 84 to finish in a tie for 17th. He reached the finals after carding a five-over 77 to come tied for second at South Sectionals. The senior would be the first to say he didn’t have his best scoring year—he averaged 39 strokes per nine holes—but he balanced playing well with being a team captain to a very young roster. His guidance and tutelage will far outlast what he did on the course. He was medalist on four occasions this season.

Jacoby Light, Martha’s Vineyard

Light qualified for the Division 2 South Sectional after posting a 39.9 scoring average across nine holes for the season, winning medalist honors in four matches. What he did in the postseason was spectacular. Making his second straight appearance as an individual competitor at sectionals, the junior carded an eight-over 80 at Lebaron Hills in the pouring rain to finish in a two-way tie for eighth to advance to the state championship. Light then posted a 10-over 81 in a stacked field to place in a tie for 25th at Taconic. Light across 18 holes was as consistent as any player in the region. He posted a three-over 75 at the Vineyard Golf Club High School Invitational and then came in a tie for fifth (77) at Willowbend in the Cape and Islands High School Golf Championship.

Pairing 4Chris Morin, Cape Tech

Morin led the Crusaders to the top of the Mayflower Athletic Conference as the team locked up their first league championship in nearly 20 years behind his MVP season. The sophomore held an 8-1-1 record in matchplay and averaged 38 strokes per nine holes. He carded an even par 72 at the State Vocational Tournament, followed by a five-over 75 at Willowbend in the Cape and Islands High School Golf Championship. He played out of the number one spot all season, where he was matched up against the opponent’s top player.

Ronan Kelly, Bourne

Kelly was named as team captain as a sophomore, and he led with his play in almost every match as the Canalmen made a return to the Division 3 South Sectional. He held a 38.5 scoring average and was medalist in 14 out of 16 matches across the season. Kelly carded three rounds of even par and one at two-under. The sophomore was named as the South Coast Conference’s MVP, while he was also a league All-Star selection. He fired a 10-over 80 in difficult conditions at the Cape and Islands High School Golf Championship at Willowbend.
