Today we travel to Japan to test three golf balls from Honma Golf. These were sent to me by a viewer and once I opened the package I knew we were in for a fun review.
The golf balls in question start with the Honma D1, which is a distance golf ball priced in the low 20$ price range. It’s an Ionomer ball that promises zero compromises on distance and feel. We will put that to the Golf Ball Addict Test.
Next up is two tour models, the TW-X and the TW-S, both 3 piece Urethane Options at an incredible value. at under $40 per dozen, these could possible be a Pro V1 Killer for several low handicap golfers.
Let’s put them to the ultimate full in depth testing that has made Golf Ball Addict so successful.

Konichiwa, my fellow golf ball addicts. Today we are traveling to the land of Japan to review three golf balls that all of you have been requesting. Actually, a little more than I thought you would, but I’m here for it. I like it. And that is the Hanma golf ball series. We have the X model, we have the S model, and we even have the D1 distance model. Let’s dive right in. [Music] If we travel to Sakuta, Japan, you will find the Hanma factory. This is where for almost the last 70 years, they’ve been producing their golf balls as well as their golf clubs. And you know, I got to be honest with you, I’ve never actually used a Hanma golf club or a Hanma golf ball. I’ve heard of them in passing by, but that’s about the extent that I’ve seen of them. I’m not an expert in Japanese culture, but one thing I do know is that the Japanese usually like to do things the right way. They would rather it take longer and they would rather it take more blood, sweat, and tears and to get a really handcrafted great product than to cut corners and make something that they consider subpar. This seems to be the case with Hanma as well. They make wonderful stuff. And a prime example is when I went to their website, check this out right here. This is a beautiful golf set that I actually would love to get for my mother if it didn’t cost $8,000. As you can tell though, there’s a lot of craftsmanship there and there’s a lot of attention to detail. And you know, Japan, like I said, has this reputation, not only with that, but with almost everything, including even the shirt I’m wearing, animation. If you’ve never seen a Giblly film, um I would highly recommend at least looking at a picture of it because those animated films are still all drawn by hand every single frame. And in fact, this scene right here, they spent a whole year on 8 seconds of movement just to make sure it looked right. So they I mean, they’re into making sure that it 100% looks fantastic and is done the correct way. No shortcuts, and I really respect that a lot. So, how does that fall into this, right? Well, we have three golf ball models for them. Now, I know Hanma has made a six- piece golf ball in the past, and some of you have talked about it, but it’s not available on their website anymore, and they don’t even advertise it. And so unfortunately I have to assume it’s discontinued at this point. But let’s go ahead and get into pricing and design and let’s see exactly what we’re looking at here. As you can tell by this chart, the D1 at this moment is no longer available on their website since I’m now doing this review, but it’s still available on Amazon for 21, you know, $22 a dozen somewhere in there. Um, and that’s okay. You know, it’s kind of mid-grade for a two-piece distance golf ball. So, we’ll see how the performance is. If you look at the other two, this is where it gets interesting. These are threepiece designed to be tour balls, not value tour balls. They are supposed to rival other tour balls on the market and they are $36 a dozen on the website of Hanma and they’re also $39.99 on Amazon. So, it just depends on where you get them, but you can get them from either place. Um, and it’s interesting because if you go to Hanma’s website, there’s actually not a lot of information on these golf balls. It just kind of has some of the basic jargon here. You know, if you read this, it just says, you know, precision and it uses a lot of fancy words, but it actually doesn’t really separate the two golf balls that much. It doesn’t have a chart or anything or it doesn’t say like one’s supposed to be firmer, one’s supposed to be softer. Now, I would assume the S would be soft and I assume the X would be firm because well, I’ve tested a golf ball before, but you never know. Sometimes golf companies mix it up or sometimes one’s meant to be a low spinning or whatever. So, we’re just going to have to test them and kind of see where it goes. But, I wish they’d been a little more specific on that. Without further ado, let’s go ahead and look at the front of these golf balls. Now, I got to say one thing I like about these golf balls, and I noticed it the moment they were sent to me, which was by a viewer, by the way. And if that was you, thank you so much. I forget who it was, but again, when you guys send me these, I’m so appreciative. Um, and and it helps the channel grow and it helps us test even more golf balls. So, again, thank you for that. Uh, with that being said, these look sexy. I mean, they just do. Now, I know the logo, you’re looking at it, and you see the little gopher dude popping out of the O and you’re like, sexy? Like, really, Nick? Uh, I think we have different versions of Okay. Well, let me clarify. I don’t mean sexy as in the logo or the gopher or whatever, but I mean like the golf ball. It has this shine to it. When you take it out of the package, it looks really premium. It feels really premium. I mean, it feels like something that would cost a lot of money. I don’t usually see golf balls in the $30ish dollar price range that look and feel this good. Again, I don’t know if these are being discontinued, if they’re lower price. I don’t know. All I know is that wow, I love that. If we look on the side here, this is what the alignment tools look at look like. Again, you know, you have a really nice thick black line with the points. It looks classy. It looks sophisticated. I love it. And then the D1 is a little bit more bolder and maybe not as slick, but I love the perpendicular line. So, this is actually a great design because all these golf balls, they they check the marks, but they also just do it really well. Again, logo very simplistic, very, you know, monochromatic, but it looks very premium, feels very premium, feels high class. I love the alignment tool. Basic, gets the job done. But if I hold that up, you can see it clear as day. So, love the design so far. We are off to a great great great start. Let’s go to the chipping and putting green. Let’s see how it does around there. All right. Starting with the D1. Let’s see what we got. Oh, okay. Uh, very, very, very firm roll out. I mean, really, it did have some tug. It actually gripped the green decent, but it I mean, it was like a treadmill effect. Just shut off. So, let’s try one more time here. See what we got. Nice. Pretty solid. That was a clean hit. That was very solid. Saw the rotation. Saw the tug. A good blend. Nice. Nice. Little inconsistent there. I thought that one was crisp, too, but that one I got the treadmill effect. Okay. Boy, I I mean I would almost and you know I’ll tell you what I really am disappointed in that golf ball with is when it comes to that golf ball. I don’t mind a two-piece golf ball not spinning a lot. I really don’t. But I want it to be consistent. I want it to land soft and have a nice soft roll out to the hole. If it doesn’t have bite or tug or rotation, that’s fine. I just want it to be consistent. I want it to be forgiving. That bothers me when it hits and it tugs and it kind of slows down and you think, “Okay, it’s going to check up,” but then it shoots as fast as it can. I I don’t care for that. I really don’t. It It raises my anxiety levels to to way too high. Extremely soft. I mean, extremely soft off the wedge. Dead in the hands. No sound. Dead. Um, pretty good checkup, though. Pretty good checkup. Let’s run that back. Let’s try that one more time here. Oh, yeah. Excellent. Beautiful. I like the consistent roll out. I like the forgiveness there. I was just talking about that. Okay. Oh, I caught a little. I I didn’t hit that one pure, so it did have a little bit more roll out. I got to run that back. Low spinner. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Really good. I The bite is great. The grip is great. Let’s try a little cut. Oh yeah, baby. Really good bite and grip. I love the rotation. It’s sticky. That’s excellent. Now try a little left spin here. Oh yeah, absolutely. I wish I hadn’t hit the other ball, but yeah, you could see it. You can see it going that way for sure. Now, I don’t expect the X to be dead in the hands and soft. I expect it to have some level of click. Let’s see if I’m right. Oh my goodness. I love that. That was some great rotation and bite. More bite than a snake pit, baby. Nice. Oh. Oh. Oh, it went left. It went right. I don’t like the inconsistency there. I don’t like the super bass effect, but it has rotation. It has grip. So, that’s nice. I would call it a little bit better. Let’s do one more here. Try to hit another low spinner. I’ll call it 65% with it. I thought it was a little spinnier than the S, but overall, because this one’s just a little more inconsistent. I I think the potential for this one’s higher. I think I did see 75 80% a couple times, but I also saw 40 45% a couple times. Averages out to be around 65. Whereas the S model, it was just pretty much 65 65 65 every single time. So, not bad. All right, mallet putter. Starting with the D1. One of the smoothest rolls I’ve ever seen. We’ll see if that uh continues. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Medium distance control, normal. Five out of five. Pure roll. One of the best rolls I’ve ever seen, just to be completely honest with you. Little bit of click as far as like subdued, more dead off the putter, but the the feeling there’s a little bit of click in your hands as far as feedback, which is nice. That’s solid. That’s really solid. All right, let’s move on to the S. Again, really soft touch. Love it. Hm. Hold on a second. We might have a little bit of difference on the distance control here. I’ll call it normal, but it’s a little bit more toward that slow side. It does take a little bit more on the putter to get it where you want it. We’ll check that with the blade, too. Feels great. True roll. Five out of five. Oh, yeah. Buttery. Very buttery. I love it. Excellent. I Yeah, still I I’m going to call it normal on the distance control, but my goodness, I love the buttery crispiness to it. Um, it’s not super obnoxious. Very soft. Very, very soft. Pleasant. That’s another words I would use to describe it. All right. X model. Now, let’s see if there’s any difference here. Okay. Came off a little heavy. Wow. Okay. I like that. Nice. The roll is not as clean as the other two. It’s still really good. I mean, we’re talking really good. Four out of five, but just not as pure as those other two was. It’s again the feeling as far as the click and the feel in the hands is exactly the same as the S, which is kind of crazy. I don’t usually see that between an X model and a regular model or whatever you want to call it. Um, but that’s nice. You can tell there’s a lot of love put in that ball, especially green side. Let’s try the blade. All right. Now, we have our traditional blade. Let’s see how that changes things. Oh, wow. Really soft. Really soft. I I don’t usually have subdued dead feeling with the blade putter at all. There’s a lot of responsiveness in this thing. Um, that’s very surprising. Let’s run that back. Again, a really good roll. Oh, you got to be kidding me. Really solid. I’m I’m surprised because this is abnormal. I don’t usually feel that level of subduness in the hands with the blade putter. But, you know what? It clicks. It does have a little mild low sound. Uh, the roll is still really good. I’ll go ahead and still give it the five out of five. Even though it’s a step down from the mallet, it’s not quite as good, but it’s still really good. Four and a half. Bump it up. It’s very solid. All right, let’s try the S. H. Okay. Did not like the roll. Okay. Traded one for the other. Not bad. Okay. Solid. Yeah, it’s there’s a healthy amount of feedback. Um I I like it overall. I think I like the mallet better. The mallet was kind of like a masterpiece. I mean, it was just total class. This is really good. This is like really good. Excellent, I would even say, but just not quite as good. Maybe that’s the putter’s fault a little bit, but that’s really really solid. Now we have the X model. Yeah, I’m so surprised. I I would have made like six in a row if if Hold on one second. Sorry about that. Considering I don’t ever usually make that many. Like I’m really upset I would have made like four in a row if it wasn’t for one being in front. But um No. So it feels very similar. Again, it’s so soft and I’m just not used to that with this blade putter. I I I don’t think I’ve seen I’ve tested 100 golf balls this year. I don’t think I’ve seen that one time. If I have, it’s been a handful of times at most. So, I’m really impressed. I love the feel. It’s soft. It’s responsive. There’s Yes. It’s just a little crispy in there. A little butter in there. I love it. Now that I move that other ball, now I have no chance of getting one in. Yeah. Some of the worst putting you’ll ever see. No. No. I That’s excellent. I I really love that a lot. There is so much love put into those golf balls, especially with the putter. And you can tell it has kind of a traditional style feel with a modern twist, which I like. All right, let’s go see how it feels off the irons. All right, seven iron in hand. We’re going to do a field test here. And for sound, D1 starting out. Uh, mediocre feeling, but I mean it had a lot of explosiveness, which was good, but yeah. No, I mean, not not a great feeling. Yeah, the explosiveness is all it really has going for it. Let’s try a little missit here. Yeah, three out of three either way. I mean, three on piers, three on missits. It’s okay. Oh, wow. Yeah, know that’s that’s traditional. That’s traditional. No, pretty good though. A lot of explosiveness, good amount of feedback. And by good, I mean a lot. Holy cow. Um, let’s hit a couple more. Yeah, I mean, four on pure hits, three on m hits. It’s not as bad as I thought it would be. I I got to say there’s a lot of feedback in that ball. A lot. Um traditional tour ball feedback at its core, for sure. Oh, okay. I like that. That was nice. Little mis hit, but boy, still felt great. You know, I I’m going to give that a four out of four on both accounts. Uh, really solid there. Explosiveness good. You can tell it’s an X model, though. Slow swingers stay away. And again, there’s just so much feedback, even on slight mits. Hands were kind of stinging a little bit. So, that’s that’s the traditionalist ball. If you’re a guy who likes that really kind of 90s rockish feedback, you know, you’ll like this. But I mean, don’t get me wrong, on pure hits it’s great. But boy, any slight mis hit whatsoever, it’s going to let you know and you’re going to feel it and you’re going to know. You’re going to know 100%. Okay, I slightly mis hit that off the toe. Okay, I slightly mis hit that off the bottom because the feedback is just so detailed. But that could be a good thing for you, it could be a bad thing. Uh, it’s not so good for me. All right, let’s start with backspin RPM 50ard pitch as always. Let’s see what we’re working with here. As you can see, we’ll start with the D1 there. 7,77. Not great. Um 30.4 launch does help a little bit because it’s launching higher, but that’s a low spin number. You’re not going to get a lot of spin or checkup out of this ball, unfortunately. Um but it is it is a two-piece distance ball, so I wasn’t expecting a ton, but you know, I mean, a little more would have been nice, but oh well. Uh the other two, 8,177 and 8,155 are both um right in that above average, just barely. Uh not going to win any awards, but they get the job done and they both uh stop pretty well. I am interested to see that they weren’t really that separating. You know, I mean, the the launch angle, if you notice, was by far the lowest I have ever seen. Uh, when it comes to 50-yard pitch, that 22.3 and that 22.2, again, kind of weird they’re the same, but like really low. I think the lowest I’d seen so far this year was like 25.9 or something like that. So, that’s really, really low. So, if you’re someone who wants a low penetrating flight, that’s the way to go because, you know, the 8,100 isn’t really a great number, but when you think about how low that ball is coming off, it it actually is kind of a respectable number. And I just don’t see that. That’s very unique to that golf ball because I Yeah, I mean, like I said, usually I think my average is like 27. So, I mean, that’s that’s really low. Let’s move on to pitching wedge. Let’s see how they did there. Starting with the D1. As you can see, 124.4, which is above average. That’s a really solid number. Um 124.4 as well on the S model. And then it looks like the X was a little less. So that actually tracks. That’s actually fine. Uh all the swing speeds are close, which is good. 97.4 on the ball speed with the D1, which is great. 96.9 is nothing to shake a stick at. And 95.5 is a little, you know, lacking. But again, that’s the X model, so we’re we’re actually on track. That’s still fine. Then if we go into spin now, the golf balls are separating themselves a little bit, which is great. I actually got pretty good spin. 7,170 with the D1, the S model, not so much, just under 7K. And then the X model, 7235. That’s an excellent spin number. So, and when it came to launch angle, again, the same pretty much. The D1 launched a little higher. That’s that’s normal. Uh, so basically what that tells me is that the S model is a lower spin model, which again, I wouldn’t have guessed. I wish they would put that information on the website a little bit better because I wouldn’t have guessed the S model was lower spin, but we’ll also see if that’s the case on the 7ir and driver as well. Um, but yeah, the X model launches the same. Uh, but it just has a lot more spin. You sacrifice some of that distance. Usually X models are a lot firmer. Firmer golf balls usually don’t do as well with the pitching wedge cuz I’m I’m not swinging it very fast. 78 mph. Now that we’re getting into the 7iron, though, and I’m swinging it a little faster. It’s a mid iron. Now, all of a sudden, the X might compress a little bit better. We’ll see. So, let’s dive into that. seven iron, we are looking at ball speed of 116.5 compared to 116.1 compared to 116.1. Wow, those are exactly the same. Um, and the swing speeds were all basically the same. So, that’s great. Um, looking at distance-wise, uh, we are looking at 162.4, 163.1, 162.9. Those are all so close. There’s really no separation at all. Uh, then when we go into spin, see, now it’s the opposite. Now, the S model spun more than the X, which is a little confusing, but it happens sometimes. Um, 5400 with the X is actually low. 5622 is high. 5778 with the D1 is bonkers. That is really, really, really high. That is fantastic. Love to see that. Um, and again, it’s a softer golf ball. It’s just absorbent into the club a little bit more. Um, yeah. So, those numbers won’t win any awards. Uh what I did notice with the 7iron is that uh this golf ball is not very forgiving. It it’s I talked about it in the field a little bit. It feels traditional. Um and it is and it’s kind of cool because traditional can be fun, but when I’m trying to go low, traditional sometimes gets in my way because the lack of forgiveness from these golf balls really started to affect. And yeah, there were times I would really pure one well and it would go 168, 169, but the majority of the time you just hit it slightly off center and it’s like 155. And so there’s just too much of a range for me personally there. So I think being a really good ball striker is a must here because these golf balls, it’s kind of like my old computer teacher said. He said, “Computers are the dumbest thing on earth. They only do what you tell them to do.” That’s kind of how this golf ball is. Like it only does what you tell it to do, but when you tell it to do it, it does it with authority. If you say, “Hey, I’m going to close that face a little.” It goes, “No problem. See you in the woods.” And you’re like, “No, I meant like a nice little soft draw.” Oh, okay. Well, you’re going to have to, you know, manipulate it a half of a degree to the That’s above my skill rank. Now, some of you might be skilled enough. I know you are cuz you tell me you’re handicapped. So, some of you actually might benefit from that. But an average golfer like me, I’m just not there yet, I don’t think. Let’s get to the driver now. Let’s look at those numbers and see if they are any better. And what do you know? To no one’s surprise, the firm, clicky traditional golf ball does extremely well off the driver. That’s not surprising at all. Uh the D1 145.1 is awesome for a two-piece golf ball. Really good. Spin numbers low. 28 uh 2118, excuse me. Uh 1.48 on the smash factor is awesome. And a 15.8 launch is actually kind of low mid. So actually, and none of those golf balls, you’ll notice, launched high. They all launched lower than my average. So that’s interesting. Uh but now let’s go to the other two. And if we look at that 146.3, 147.2, those are both excellent, incredible ball speed numbers. That’s right up there with like the PXG we just did, u you know, Callaway Chrome Soft, Bridgestone, all those. It’s right up there with the the best golf balls I’ve tested of the year. Now, you’ll notice the X model has a little more spin, 2435 compared to 2168. So, the X model is a higher spinning golf ball um throughout. Uh I know with the 7ir it was a little different, but other than that, it’s been that way. So maybe my 7 iron performance was eh. I don’t know. Uh but that’s that’s definitely a higher number than a lot of you would like. I actually don’t mind it. Um because if we look at the distance in total, distance really wasn’t affected. 237.3 on both. 246 245. Who cares? I mean a yard difference. Um not not big at all. Also got to give respect for the 1.5 smash factor on both the S and the X model. That just does not happen very often. Um it’s it’s almost like a perfect score basically pretty close. It just means that the energy being transferred based on my swing speed, it’s getting the optimal out of it. So again, do I think these are for a little bit faster swingers? I do because pitching wedge, eh, just couldn’t get a lot out of it. But I did with the S model and the D1. So keep that in mind as well. And then once we get to the 7ir, you know, you start to see it. I I actually I think my swing speed wasn’t as big of an issue. I think it’s just more of ball striking. So I think that 95 mph is probably the baseline and then you can go up from there. The D1 on the other hand, I think you have a little bit more play. I think you can be probably 85 to 95 and still be fine or or up from that 85 up and be fine. Uh but when it comes to those two tour balls, if you’re going to be slower than 95 mph, you need to be a very very very good ball striker, period. Because I’m telling you, with a slower swing speed, if you mishit it, it’s going to punish you pretty hard. Okay, those are actually pretty solid numbers. I like them. Most of them are above average. That’s great, especially for the price point. Uh definitely is a unique golf ball. It It feels unique. It looks unique. It acts unique. It’s It’s cool and that’s what I was hoping for. So, good stuff there. Let’s get into the accuracy and dispersion. Let’s look at those and let’s see how it is. All right, let’s take a look here at the Humna D1. Uh actually, if we look at that 50-yard pitch, that’s pretty darn impressive. I got to say, there’s one that I flew a little too far and one that maybe I caught a little right. Other than that, those are all darts. Uh I actually one of those might have went in. I’ll just be real. I That’s awesome. One of the best 50-yard pitches I’ve seen on the dispersion chart. It’s hard not to be impressed with that. Then we go to pitching wedge. And listen, the accuracy isn’t great, but look at the consistency of the distance control. It is fantastic. And actually, there is. Even though it’s kind of all over the place. There was three, you can see bunched up there. So, there there’s some good consistency. I wish it was a little tighter when it came to accuracy, but my goodness, the the distance control is phenomenal. Then we get to seven iron and again, you know, there’s two pools left, but if you take those away, that’s one of the best seven irons I’ve seen this year. It’s really impressive. Everything is just right there. It’s uh all on the green, all birdie opportunities. I love it. Then we get to the driver. And again, it’s very spread out. It’s all over the place, but look at the distance control. This has to be one of the best consistency golf balls I’ve tested this year. Um it’s just really weird. You know, I love seeing the hot dogs. You know what I’m saying? And what I mean by that is, well, actually I prefer it to be, you know, more accurate. But the hot dogs, if you look at the driver there, you see how it’s just really, you know, short and long. That’s what that is. And that means the distance control is phenomenal. So yeah, that’s that’s a fantastic showing from the D1. I hope this continues. Let’s move on to the S. All right, getting into the S now. Uh, a little bit better on the accuracy, but the dispersion’s not quite as tight. So distance control was a little bit more sporadic than the D1, but I like the accuracy a lot. We get into the pitching wedge. Again, this is actually pretty solid as well, especially considering how unforgiving I during the testing this ball was. Uh we get to the seven iron. Accuracy is all over the place. I mean, I’ve got a huge dispersion there. Some of those are off the green, unfortunately. Uh some of them I caught really well and went long. Some of them are just a tad short. It is solid overall, but maybe I’ve been spoiled by that D1 we just looked at. Uh but it’s okay. It’s average. When we get to the driver, uh again, actually driver’s not bad. I thought driver was going to be way worse than that. But um now granted I took away six m hits so you know the six m hits were pretty bad. So I mean there is that. But overall still really good. You know I I can I I got it under control right. I still think it might be a little too advanced for me but when I hit it well as you can see it does pretty good for the most part. So let’s check out the X and see if it’s any different. All right. And if we look at the X model um a little spread out on the 50 yard pitch. It’s all over. It’s not bad, but I wouldn’t really call it good either. Then we get to the pitching wedge, and I would call that good. I’d actually call that excellent because there’s two that I, you know, pulled left, and as you can see, they went a long way because they were pulled. Uh, but other than that, those other eight out of 10 are all right there. Really good consistency, really good accuracy, all great birdie opportunities. If we move into the seven iron, there’s three that I pushed right that are all just right on the money. And then other than that, it’s okay. Um, distance control wasn’t as good as I thought. Again, it comes back to that forgiveness. If you hit it pure, yeah, you get some really great distance out of it. But if you mishit it a little, as you can see, you lose some distance. I actually lost about 10 to 15 on those shots, as you can tell. Uh, but we get to the driver. Driver, uh, pretty good. Uh, you know, I mean, nothing that’s a red flag, but I don’t see too many green flags. It is all over. Uh, again, the distance control is kind of all over the place as well. Maybe not as bad as some other ones, but yeah, just okay. And again, what it comes back to is if you’re an excellent ball striker, I think the potential there, like pitching wedge, I am really solid with my pitching wedge. And that shows if you look at the pitching wedge there, which is the second from the left, it’s fantastic. But if you’re not a great ball striker like me and you’re just okay or good, look what happens with the seven iron. Look what happens with the driver a little bit. And so that’s kind of why I keep bringing a point to it. So I do think it’s a little punishing on mits, but overall not bad. Still a little better than I thought it would be. Let’s talk some durability real quick and then after that I will give you my closing thoughts. All right, so let’s start with the Homna D1. Uh looking at this thing, it’s a little beat up and it’s a little dirty and if you look you can see a lot of dirt blemishes. These are actually really deep dimples, like really deep dimples. Uh but you know that’s all just dirt. If you actually just feel the golf ball, it actually feels intact. It feels good. There’s a little bit of sandpaper effect there. Um I’d call this like an eight and a half out of 10. So I’ll bump it up to the nine. I I I actually really like it. I mean, if if you close your eyes and feel it, it it really just feels solid. It doesn’t feel like there’s any major scrapes or abrasions. I think if I actually just clean that off, it would look almost brand new. So, I love to see that. Next up, we have the Hanma S. And again, it looks very premium. It looks very good. Uh there’s a couple small indentions, but I mean, other than that, it it looks fantastic. I mean, that is great. There’s one little spot there, but you can’t feel it. Gosh. I mean, the materials are just really premium. You can tell this feels so nice. That’s a 10 out of 10. I mean, there’s just if I if you handed this to me with my eyes closed or if you handed to like Ray Charles, uh he would feel it and go, “That’s a new golf ball.” And I mean, I’m the same way. I’d be like, “Yep, that’s a new golf ball.” I Yeah. Awesome. But now we have the X model and it’s changed a little bit. Um a little bit more, you know, there’s a chip out of it there. It’s a little rough to the touch. Uh the rest of it just looks fantastic, though. You can tell the dot, you know, actually lasted a lot longer cuz I hit this one side over and over and over. So, what I will say is again, you know, this is this is going to be a 9 out of 10. But I will say this, even with that side here that I just showed you, and it’s all rough. If you feel it, it’s very minor. It’s very, very minor. Whatever coating they use on the the outside of this, whatever polyurethane they have found, it’s good stuff. It’s really good stuff. It feels unlike anything I’ve felt and it’s it’s solid. It’s really good. Okay. Really good. All right. So, closing thoughts. Uh, let’s find out who the golf ball is for. Well, the first thing I would do is I would put it in the advanced golf for advanced skill category. Like I said, it’s firm and traditional, and that’s awesome. I love how unique it is, and I love that it can be bent left and right. There’s tons of detail in this golf ball. However, my skill level just isn’t there yet. As an average golfer, I just don’t feel like I can really, you know, get the golf ball to do what I want it to do the majority of the time. This is a golf ball that will do exactly what you tell it to do. I’m sorry, let me rephrase that. It will do exactly what your club tells it to do. If you close the face a little, it’s it’s going to hook. It’s going to draw. If you open it up a little bit, it’s going to slice. It’s going to power fade. It will do exactly what your club tells it to do. And for me, that’s a scary thought because I’m just not there yet. You know, as an eight, eight and a half handicap, I’m still working on certain elements of my game. My ball striking is still not 100%. I still have a long way to go. I think most of us do. And for me, using this golf ball would just really hinder me more than it would help me. Because yes, there are a few shots I hit with it that I thought, “Oh, baby, this is my gamer. I love this.” But there was a lot of shots I hit with it and I thought, “Hey, where you going? Why you going so far left?” I Oh, snap the wrist a little too much. Because that’ll happen. This golf ball, you know, at the end of the sessions when I got done with seven iron, pitching wedge, all that stuff. I would take a few shots just to kind of close the face and open it and see what I could do with the golf ball. Yeah, it’ll do whatever your club tells it. I’m telling you, it’ll bend left and right. It has a lot of workability, which is great for advanced golfers. Now, when it comes to the swing speed aspect of it, you know, like I said, the D1 85 and up, I think you’re fine anywhere in that range. It is a little firmer than most, you know, 2P softer golf balls. It’s more of a distance model, but I think you can get around that range and still be fine. I do think 95 mph is the baseline for the Tour balls, though. But again, you need to be an excellent, excellent ball striker at 95 mph. If you’re not, you’re going to notice those, you know, mis hits. You’re going to lose distance. It’s going to go left and right. It will happen. It happened to me during the testing. It’ll happen to you, too. Now, as you get up into the 105 range, the 110 range, all that stuff, you won’t see as punishing of mis hits because you’re compressing the golf ball at a much higher rate than someone who swings 95 is. So, the forgiveness will be a little better. I don’t know how much better, but you know, a little bit for sure, depending on. And that’s how most of the time it works with firmer golf balls. The faster you swing, the more forgiveness you’ll get out of them. I hope you enjoyed our brief trip to Japan. This was fun. This was a good time. I really enjoyed this. I hope you guys did, too. Uh, thank you to whoever sent these to me. Again, this was great. Um, I’ve got even more reviews coming, guys. We’re so close to the top 100 and we’re close to our top 10 series. This is going to be fun. The amount of data we have this year, it’s going to be the best one yet. I can’t wait. I’ll see you soon.

Hey Nick,
What is your definition of an average golfer? In watching you I would say you are an above average golfer skill set. just curious. Love this channell and keep up the amazing work.
I hope everyone gets the humor i know now a days cant eve joke around ignore that kinda nonsense this is a great review i love honma
Great review. I had the opportunity to golf in Japan earlier this year and picked up a box of the D1 distance balls (multi-color pack). I kept meaning to mail it to you to test but forgot! I haven’t hit them yet though so the review is great.
Good introduction Nick
Nice balls
Great review as always! Would consider the D1 if had better forgiveness but not for me.
The 50yd vs PW launch does not make sense as they are both 22degree unless the 50 is that bad and unless you have more spin it's not getting any pull back stoppage.
But the driver numbers are pretty decent, especially with that smash, either you were cracking the middle of that face or it's a very forgiving ball.
You superglued that ball to them chopsticks right lol
Another awesome video!
I just recently played two rounds with the D1. Was really impressed with it overall. One thing I should say is for those who like to play colored balls, the colors they offer are visually gorgeous. Probably the most attractive colored balls I've ever seen. All four colors are super bright and shiny and really fluorescent. 👍
Dude, what is that thing on your head? (Not referring to the microphone…)
Had no idea Honma sold balls. I thought they’d cost $150 a dozen based on the club prices.
Does your launch monitor give you standard deviation for all of the stats you look at? If so, would you consider including it?
I noticed the pitch and PW shots were identical launch angle for S and X… odd 😮
Dispersion 🤌🏼 as a whole, I’m interested thank you again for the elite content.
Oh snap, that new intro is 🔥
Good review Nick. Thanks
