Your driver isn’t an iron. It’s a specialist shot — Treating it like an iron leads to loss of distance and accuracy. Learn the key differences in setup, backswing, and downswing to hit your driver more consistently.

We got the wide stance. We’ve got the golf ball further forward in the stance than any other shot. We can see it’s just on the inside of the lead heel here. For me, we need to get tilting like this. So, you can see my upper body is tilted somewhat more than the rest of the shots. Now, a lot of golfers are going, “Well, I need to stay behind it. I’ve got to get I’ve got to stay behind it.” The first starting point is get behind it. So, you’ll see Pierce here is he’s way behind the golf ball. It’s the ball’s up here. The stance is wide. The the spine is tilted. It’s a great starting point to just get there. And then from there, all we’re looking to do is we’re looking to load up this trail side and get behind the golf ball. So ultimately, look at the journey of my left shoulder. As I move back and wind up into that trail leg, you can see the left shoulder’s kind of getting over that trail leg. This gives me a chance. And then from there, we’re going to move and push aggressively towards the target. But this is where it’s different to the irons. instead of getting to that impact line because I’m pushing down so hard into that lead leg, the ground is almost bouncing me back. So when I’m striking the golf ball now, I’m now quite a bit behind the impact line. That’s allowing me to hit the golf ball on the way up. That’s allowing me to launch it. That’s allowing me to hit a long way and not actually have to worry about too much about where it’s going.

  1. You guys have great confidence that that guy in the background will not "shank" one at you. Love your content.

  2. So the low pow of your swing is well behind the ball. The natural curve of the downswing (out, square, in) is now moved back. Which means that the club will be moving from square to closed as it gets to the ball unless you move that downswing trajectory forwards.
The then result is either a ball that starts online and goes left or starts slightly left and disappears off into the unknown. Hold the club off very slightly and ball heading right.
Most pros are now almost hitting down on the ball based on their launch angle.

  3. If you want to hit adriver more reliably move the ball BACK to just in front of centre of your stance. Don’t tilt your shoulders back much. The ball will go low and straight and if you want to hit it higher move your driver face up 3°. Your driver will now be your best friend.

  4. You definitely don’t need to tilt as much as he is tilting. Doing this will actually cause you to fall backwards and hit way behind the ball. Slighlty less tilt and ball inside the front foot and just swing out to right field and make sure to turn the hands over and you will hit a nice high draw. 🙂👍🏼⛳️

  5. I do this set up and I keep hanging back and then flipping at the ball late and low hooking it. Trying to work away from this but this has been my issue when I load and tilt back, try to stay behind the ball. I stay behind too much lol. I need a feel or thought to help get me through with driver.
