This is exactly why I look at the middle of the stance when I have driver in my hand. You saw the thumbnail and you probably thought I was crazy, but I know you’re leaving yards out there on the table and it’s probably the reason why you don’t hit driver as straight as you could. In this video, we will cover how to start the golf swing, how to get width in this back swing, and the one we all want, how to add distance. The first question so many golfers ask me around driver is tea height. So, I think it’s right we just start with this to set the page. Right. Now, controversially, I like to use a very small teg. I’m actually in some good company with this Tiger Woods small teg, too. So, when I tee my golf ball up for comfort, and I definitely recommend this for many golfers, I have a quarter of the ball sitting above the face. Now, I’m telling you this because I teach thousands of golfers every single year who tee the golf ball up far too high. So, actually teeing it a little bit lower could suit our swing a little more. So, the reason you’re not hitting it as straight or as far as you should. You’re starting this swing with your arms. Now, this leads into many problems. So, if I sort of show you this here, as I start the golf swing with my arms, in order to feel as though I make a long enough swing, something has to give. We tend to see this lead arm get a little bent because now I still have the illusion my arms have moved around my body enough to complete what we would say is a full back swing. But it’s a little bit of a false economy. I would rather a shorter but wider golf swing that would create a far more consistent and superior in terms of consistency power what you’re looking for. So if we look at this here when we start with our arms we don’t have enough turn with this chest early doors. We have to break down at the top of the swing. Now as we start down the reverse starts to happen. our arms straighten too early. We then stand up. We create this very, very weak impact position in terms of club face adding loft, but also there’s a lack of rotation on the way through. Both leading to loss of power and leaving so many yards out there on the table. If we look at all the top players, they have something in common. And I don’t want you to think this is not achievable for you. halfway back. So when their lead arm for a right-handed golfer, their left arm is parallel to the ground, their shoulder is past the midpoint in their stance. If we look at the likes of Rory Maroy, Justin Thomas, even John Ram, one of the shorter swingers on tour, they all have this in common. So I’ve got a brilliant what I call punch drill that allows you to achieve this. And this has numerous benefits on the way down. It actually gives us the ability to be a little bit more from the inside to stay a little bit more in posture. Both leading to what I said in terms of consistency and more power. So this drill it’s brilliant and as I say any golfer can achieve this. Address the golf ball in the most athletic posture you can. Now a little touch points here. Back of the armpits over the toes and middle of the hip hanging down behind the heel. Just grab the golf club in your trail hand to begin with and just move it to the side of you. All I want you to do now is feel as though you punch to the side. Now, straight away, look how this is encouraged me to move my chest. If you think about this logically, if I was just to punch somebody like this, hopefully we never do that. I’m not putting much force into it. But if I start to move my body, i.e. my chest, the power of that punch improves. Same in the golf swing. The width would improve. So, really simple drill. Take the club to the side of you. Punch with your lead arm away. Grab the golf club. Now, look where my shoulder is. It’s past the midpoint of my stance behind the golf ball as my lead arm is parallel to the ground. It’s a brilliant reference point that in fact, you could even mark this on the ground. And this goes back to that thumbnail as that point right here. So you get that feeling. Punch, turn, move through. When golfers do this for the first time, they can’t believe how much more turn they have in a shorter space of time. In fact, let’s hit one away here and start to see some improvements in numbers. and we hit one away where we start to feel that we’ve got a lot more turn earlier in the golf swing. Now, I don’t expect you to achieve that to a tall level, but start to work on that punch drill and encourage a much more body motion to start that golf swing. So the brilliant reference point that I would take to the golf’s course and take into your golf swing is using that teg that I place just outside as a reference and simply that is 3 to 4 in back and roughly just outside my driver head. Now, this allows me to have a reference point, not only when I’m practicing, but also you could have that on the golf course just there in your mind’s eye to go, okay, if I was to do the punch drill, where would my lead shoulder want to point and what position would it be? See, my chest has turned as opposed to where would my shoulder point if I just created what we would call an armsled swing. Nowhere near that pink reference point. Take that to the golf course. Take that into a range session and start to bring in what some of the best players in the world are Justin Thomas’ are John Rams and our Rory Maroy have in their golf swing. And it’s certainly something you can have in yours, too.

This drill will become a go to drill I know for any golfer looking for increased turn in the backswing
Brilliant tip! I’m guilty of that. Just in process of sorting it out. I must have a lesson before start of new season! Cheers mate!
fabulous Great bid
I’m a little confused. In a previous video you showed your driver head lining up with the ball near the toe. In this one it looked like the heel was closer to the ball at set up.
How has this guy got that many subs
