The Eagle Talon racing cars, especially notable in the SCCA World Challenge during the early to mid-1990s, are compact sport coupes that made a significant impact on touring car racing. Powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter Mitsubishi 4G63 inline-four engine, these cars delivered around 210 horsepower with manual transmission variants and featured all-wheel drive (AWD) in the TSi AWD models, providing excellent traction and handling on varied tracks. The Eagle Talon was highly competitive, winning the SCCA World Challenge Touring Car Championships from 1990-1991 and the GT Touring Car Championships from 1993 to 1995. It was equipped with performance upgrades such as sport-tuned suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, and lightweight components to enhance racing capabilities. These cars became fan favorites for their balance of power, agility, and tunability, representing a distinctive chapter in Chrysler/Mitsubishi motorsport history. Today, the Eagle Talon remains an iconic race car recognized for its success and engineering in its era.

Welcome to the fascinating world of the Grand Prix Deto Rivier, affectionately known as the Little Monaco. This is a short replay of the 1995 race in Tua Rivier, the oldest street circuit in North America. The architecture and the language are unique as we are in Tuvier, Canada. Bonjour everyone. I am Bill Adam and our visit this weekend to Quebec is quite unique for this is the birthplace of Canadian racing. It is unique in a number of aspects, not the least of which is the passion the people have here for the car. But how do the competitors combine this passion with the intensity necessary to win? Well, earlier David Hobbs and Chris Mccclure filed these reports. Bill, one of the ways this circuit is unique is of course the oldest street circuit in North America. It’s been in continuous operation since 1970 and I think it’s probably second only to Monte Carlo. And talking of Monte Carlo, we have a man here who drove in the Monte Carlo Grand Prix back in the 60s and he’s driven on lots of street circuits all around the world. Bob, how does this one stack up? I like it. This reminds me of Europe and a little bit of Monte Carlo that uh it’s tight. It’s fast on the straightaways. Real tight in the corners, but it’s challenging, a lot of fun. I like it a lot. You’ve got a big successful racing driver school. You enjoy life. Why have you decided to come back to racing after all those years? You must love it. Well, I do love it, David. and I’ve been training people for over 27 years. I thought this year I’m going to get out and have some fun. So, uh, I’ve teamed up with Steve Seline and Tim Allen racing and we have some Mustangs that are very quick and a lot of fun to drive. Well, for one superstar to another, down to you, Chris Mccclure. Well, David, because of the inverted start procedures this year in the touring class, points leader Neil Hanaman will start from the 10th position. In addition to that, he’s carrying an extra 90 pounds of ballast imposed by the SECA for this race. Big job with that extra load to get to the front. Well, Chris, it’s always a challenge. Uh the Archer Motorsports Eagle Talon is really a good car. I guess that’s why we get the little extra weight. SECA is trying to equalize the cars to make it a better race. It’s always tough coming from the back, but uh it it’ll make for an exciting race. I look to be towards the front near the end of the race. We can share in that excitement with Neil Hanaman as she tries to climb through the field because he will have an onboard camera so we can watch from inside. Well, the field is on the back straight right now and here is a look at our grid. Victor Sif and on the pole Yak and Roar team leader for Porsche on the outside. Row two has Jim Minnick or John Hiny both Corvette mounted. There’s the Mobile One cars. Moving back into row three, we see David Murray, fastest qualifier here today. But at Verid Down the Grid, alongside of Steve Seline, very impressive time in that Mustang. Bob Bondant, teammate of Seline in row four, along with Chris Wheel. Row five sees Wade Mueller and Pierre Beret, a local driver. And row six, all alone, the last car in this particular class, as Mark Nefer, also in one of those strange little Strradalis, David. Yeah. In the tour class, we got Mark Dixon and Keith Mitchell on the front row and David CE and Bill Cooper taking up row two or row eight of course in this combined field. Kermit Upton and Greg Ty and behind them Paulum and Lou Gelotti who we look to do well here, Willie Lewis, another one of the Eagle talons alongside his teammate Neil Hanaman with the camera car. Row 12 is Rick Deloreio and Walter Swick. Row 13, David Lapam, Chris Kemdellia. And that will complete our field today as they’re coming around the final hairpin turn here. Just one more corner up before the start line. And the start line leads into one of the real critical areas here. Yeah, it’s a very tricky course this 10 turns in just 1.5 mi. A little bit of elevation change, some very tight corners. And as you saw from those concrete patches, there’s another one. Every one of these corners has got a concrete patch on the apex. So you go through surface change into and out of every corner. And of course with walls all around, it’s a very difficult place to open. And there we go. We have a green flag. Watch going into turn one. There’s always action down here. Everybody cleanly through. That is a pleasant sight for both spectators and drivers alike. There has been a tremendous amount of action. That is Victor Septton who has taken the immediate lead. Here is the start of the second class. You can see they are just coming onto the front straight right now. We’ll watch up ahead. I assume they will get the green flag. They look like they’re lined up pretty well. Mark Dixon and Keith Mitchell on the outside in that pretty number nine Mustang. Let’s now watch. Here they go. You can see them jump on it. Green flag is being shown for this as well. And they are hard on it at turn one. Once again, watch back in the pack for action. The guys behind were getting excited there on board with Neil Hanaman as you go around at turn one. It gives you an idea of how the roads crown here. These are streets normally side by side through turn two and down to that incredible port. This just about side by side gate. Almost an impossible area to do passing. Although we see the BMW up the inside there and try and make a pass on a Camaro on board. You’re getting a look. This is what they call a back straight here. It really is not much of a straight at all. No, it’s the Boulevard Carmel. And it’s got quite a distinct left hand curve to it all the way down to this very tight lefthander here. 90° left hand. Boy, a real job there. Bill Cooper just sliding up the inside. Very light racing maneuver. Once again, we’re back on board. Neil Hannah, his eagle talent. Whoa, that’s around turn one. Obviously got a little too anxious and you can see he’s trying to spin the car back around. That’s like you and the rental car. He will rejoin. That looks like John Hindy has taken the lead. I think that was car number 94. The Corvette off John Hinriy. We’re going to get a action view here down the street. This is about 135 mph through the streets of Proud. Beautiful, beautiful area. Mobile One Corvette leading. And here’s another look, David. Yeah, Victor Siftton there. Spins it around. Wow. Well, he obviously had a pretty good lead because there is John Harnessy in that Corvette comes up. So, unfortunately, Victor Simpson spins away there. A pretty solid lead halfway through lap one. Now, our new leader is of course the 94 car of John Heinri followed here by Yaken in the white car. Now, I mean, that’s David Murray who’s come right up to the field. Yeah, David Murray has made a very quick start in this Porsche. You can see I believe that is Steve Seline in third. There’s Hinriy going by the number 94 Corvette. David Murray second. the white I keep going to call it a champion Porsche. That’s the Yak and Roar Porsche and the Steve Selene Mustang back third. The team leader Yak and he is still sitting back in fourth place. Does a circuit like this, which is basically a point and squirt circuit, does that give any assistance to the Chevy? Well, we’ll find out in just a moment. Coverage of the 1995 World Challenge Championship is being brought to you by Chevrolet. One automotive company has won more races over the last 30 years. Genuine Chevrolet. Welcome back to Dr. Beer Quebec. Bill Adams, David Hobs, and Chris Mccur with you watching the battle of the marks. This is Chevrolet reading. John Hinriy in that big number 94 Mobile One Corvette ahead of David Murray, the man who has really dominated this year in that Porsche. But David, I was going to ask you earlier. Would this track give an advantage to the torque of the Chevrolet as opposed to the horsepower of the Porsche? Well, I would have thought it probably do. Um, there’s no doubt about the normally aspirated big engine around here. Should be of some assistance. Although David Murray at the moment is winding him in, so maybe uh we’ll both have something to think about later on, but I would have thought that big powerful engine in the Corvette would have been the answer around here. tight courses and as you said a lot of point and squirt, slow corners, a lot of acceleration needed off them. Let’s go down to Chris Mccclure for report. Well, Victor Siftton spin was only the first chapter of trouble because he did come into the pit’s next pass by and now they’re underneath. There’s a lot of moisture there. There was some water on the windshield, but they think the crux of the problem is an oil leak somewhere down around the lower portion of the engine compartment. They’re really trying to diagnose right now before they can fix. It’s going to be a long one and an unfortunate day for Victor Sipin who led very briefly before that spin. This is looking at a huge battle shaping up here right now. That is Bill Cooper going by number 39 Camaro closely followed by the number three car of Greg Tace I believe. Yes, Greg Ty. And then I think it’s Lou Gelotti’s car in the background there. So, it’s an all Chevy battle right now. But maybe the critical thing here is what the Eagle Talent fell said, “Watch for us late in the race.” Well, actually, what would make that even more true is just looking at that picture there, the sky looks very over there. It looks okay behind us. It looks very, very threatening. And of course, if it does rain, those four-wheel drive eagle talents will just take control of this race. I would say they would have a substantial advantage at this point. This is a great battle going on right here. We just saw Victor Simpan getting pushed started, hoping to rejoin. And in fact, there he is just at the back of the field. So he is allowing this battle to go cleanly past him. Now that’s a nice move on his part. Yeah, Bill Cooper seems to be in charge of this group coming down to that port to Bless. It’s a pretty steep drop down there. Then right under the bridge, the road suddenly changes direction and obviously very sharp left turn and it takes a very sharp kink upwards too. So you have a a climb out of that. So, you really got to get a good exit from under that archway if you want to get down this long straightaway quick, which obviously you do cuz any overtaking is going to take place right here in this 90° corner. Very heavy braking. We are on board Neil Hanaman down this long straight. You can see right here you just go past the braking marker, then the tight left, and you got to get by those tires. And you got to get a good apex just so you can use every inch of road. And of course, a lot of people just tag those apexes. If you just tag it, that’s fine. But otherwise, you get to see it nose buried in there and whip the old wheel off. Can be a bit inconvenient. We We see that happen frequently here. This is a track, too, where these cars have always performed well because as the races do go on, there’s a lot of debris builds up on the outside of the corners. Great looking little cars. One of the prettiest graphic designs I think ever on race cars. That’s just a little brace. Jeff Niki behind him and his Chevrolet Corvette. You can see immediately from there’s on board Neil. That’s taking a look at a very relaxed driver. He looks pretty relaxed and I must say extremely relaxed cuz it is pretty bumpy this track. They’ve had done a lot of resurfacing this year. How using all the road there coming down to the casino turn. Pretty quick left-hander. Quite a bit of drop off here. See the road drops away from you there. So you don’t get much help as camber under the bridge. As you can see, very poor sighting and you got no idea what’s around there. Again, you got to take a good apex to make sure you come onto this straight. as well. And here you can see just how unstraight this straight is. I mean, it has a constant left hand bias to it. Practically all the way down until we actually get hard on the brakes here for the final and uh 90°. This is a track that really gives a driver remarkably little rest. Oh, no rest at all. No rest at all. I mean, these cars constantly gear shifting, you know, anywhere, you know, second to fifth all the way up and down through through the gearbox here. I don’t think we’d use first anywhere. There’s our two leaders, John Hinriy, David Murray right behind him in the white Porter now that he could be biting his time and letting Hinriy make holes in the traffic for him because now they’re going to start getting to the back of the touring car class again and these guys are going to be in traffic now for the rest of the race. So, it’s it’s very tough work for them and of course the guys that are being lacked. Yes, it is indeed. Both of these drivers very experienced. John Hinriy has raced up at Troier for many many years and is extremely familiar with these Corvettes. David Murray new to the Yakura team this year, but boy, he has been a great addition. He has just been blindingly fast in this Porsche all season long. Oo, there cocking the old Corvette as he turns into the casino turn downhill right out the wall. He’s using that car now. He got Well, the racing is fast and furious here today. There is no let up in the action. We’ll take a look at the field as we currently sit. John Hiny leading David Murray, Steve Selene, Bob Bondre, and Yakener. 6 through 10 looks like this. Don’t go away. We’ll be right back with more action. Welcome back to Tu Rivier for a report. Let’s get back down to Chris Mccclure. Now, the Eagle Talons are picking up some ground with Willie Lewis and Neil Hanaman. Mike Archer, you’re carrying a lot of extra weight this time, but you have been able to get through the field. Is there enough there to get all the way through? Yeah, right now I don’t know. So, the cars are running real consistent lap times. And I noticed a couple of the Camaros that are in front of us started on sticker rubber, and I don’t think they’re going to last. I think that starting on stickers is going to come back to hurt them, and it might help us. So, let’s hope so. You telling your guys for two reasons to play a waiting game. Because of the race and because your points position, you want to score well, but not have to win. Well, we’re hoping that the competition’s going to come back. Just them having stickers, us having all-wheel drive. Uh when the tires get old, the allwheel drive seems to help us a little bit at the end. And let’s hope it does. Mike Archer, he’s got a lot of time to play tactics, at least in this event. They do have a lot of time. So you can just see that car there that just went through the picture. Does have a bash on the nose, David. Yep. That’s a 33 car of Woody Lewis. There’s the uh camera car. Oh, a little smoke off that tire there. Now I wonder is that could be two things. Could it not be oil slashing over as he’s going through the right hand corner? Let’s take take a look here. Keep an eye 32. That’s Paul Armstrong, local driver from Toronto, Canada. And the third team car. Here we are coming up. 32 goes cleanly through. No problems there. We’ll take one more look as come back down into turn one here. Going to pass this mod inside. I think that’s Dave Lap. Willie Lewis. Yes, there is a little smoke on the back of that car. Yeah, Willy’s car smoking. That’s not very good sign at the stage of the race. Keep an eye as he goes around the corners. Everything looks all right. Only at a couple of spots and you can see he is quite close to the cars immediately ahead. Those being curved up into that BMW M3 and one of the Camaros that I wasn’t able to get the the number on. I think it’s Lou Geli, but I’m not absolutely sure. But they’re not very far in front of him now as we come to the end of Bulad Dukel, a beautiful treeine street here in Quebec. And that smoke is still there. It still is. Number 94, the Mobile One Corvette of John Heinersy continuing to lead, but to everyone’s surprise, over David Murray. David has not been able to make a dent on that lead. Well, there’s still some way to go. He may not want to get in front, I think, at the moment. Going through a lot of traffic here on this tight three course, 10 turns. I think he’s quite happy to let John Hennessy find all the holes in the traffic for him. One thing that has helped considerably this year, the Porsche has now switched to a twin turbocharged system. So, Hinri see a little broadside there. the the response on the power is much better with the twin turbos. Yeah. And of course, both these guys have got to be careful. You know, they run on street tires. They’ve got to be careful. They don’t run the tires off these cars. All that accelerating and braking, especially accelerating with these big powerful engines, you can really uh do your tires in if you go too fast too soon. And that may be another reason why David Murray is just biting his time and uh not trying to push it. cuz if you run the tires up it uh you’ll never be able to maintain the time as you know once tires start going downhill it’s a very rapid uh you know catch they regress real quickly and then you you just get worse and worse and we can see the car that was immediately ahead of John Hinriy and David Murray I believe that was the Victor Sith and Camaro they will be coming after lap Victor of course having had a number of problems did make the pit stop and was able to rejoin the race to try and pick up some of those valuable points number nine that looks like Mr. Mitchell’s Mustang is on the outside of turn one. Will he’ll be able to rejoin? Yes, he is. That’s good. He gave such a good run last year, the final race of the year at Dallas. Almost took the class one away from Blue Gelotty. I think one more lap and he would have had it forward, but not having as good a day today. Unfortunately, back around turn one coming into two here. And again, Hinriy using up every inch of this track in that big Corvette. He certainly is. He’s getting right over against the wall. Here’s a replay of the Mitchell car just simply going straight through. Oh boy. Boy, you you can’t park any neater than that. Back on board Neil Hanaman down under this Dupless Arch. Again, David, as you point out, you really can’t see very much. No, you can’t. All he can see, of course, in front of him is his teammate there, Willie Lewis. And Willie Lewis has got somebody just in front of him. It’s hard to tell on this shot, but it could be that BMW. Yes, it is the BMW. So, he’s wound Kermit Upton in in the BMW. Ooh, really pushing him hard to there. Getting alongside coming off. Is he going to be able to outbreak him into the next Whoa, there. That looked like a mischief right there. All the smoke out of it. Sure was a big blast of it. Now, that was fuel smoke. Black smoke like that. I mean, wonder if the car is running a bit rich or something. Well, and the racing is certainly rich. As we continue here at Revier, take a look at the top 10. that still continues to be our leader. John Hinriy over David Murray. Great racing going on. Steve Selene, Bob Fonder, and Jim Man are three through five. 6 through 10 looks like this. A lot more racing coming your way in just a moment. Welcome back to Traavier, Quebec. You could see the racing fast and furious. This is Bill Adam with David Hobs and Chris Mccclure enjoying racing that is tightening up considerably. You can see the Porsche has caught the Corvette. David, very much so. Now he’s right behind him about to finish to the coupe de grass somewhere. They’re catching up with a couple of those Stradales down into the turn one area across the start finish line 140 mph in these quick cars. David Ray not having the room to do it there. You can see how that road falls off there. Terrific grounding effect as you come around turn one. Now, one of the difficulties on a street circuit like this, it’s one thing to catch a competitor, but it’s a whole different game to pass them. Well, of course, any racing is like that to a certain extent, but you’re right. Here, it can be very difficult, especially when you start getting mixed up in slow traffic. Just when you see you think you’ve got a good chance on an opportunity coming up, then suddenly there’s somebody there that you’re trying to lap. So, that uh messes that lap up and then it goes on. So, you got to take your opportunities when they arise. Really are only two good spots. You see the Mustang putting on his left hand blinker. He is not going to make a left-hand turn. He is sickling those faster cars to go past him on the left, allowing some some courtesy to the other competitors. John Hindiny though just driving a flawless race so far. I haven’t seen him put a wheel wrong and he’s using every inch of that road surface. He is. And I think he’s driving, you know, within himself at the same time. He’s trying to use as much road to keep the car flowing nicely without trying to tighten it up too much to really let those tires of his last for the entire length of this long race. And at the moment, he still manages to stay in front of David Murray in the Porsche, who’s no doubt driving with the same thing in mind. I’m sure he is. For an update, let’s get back down to Chris Mccclure. Victor Shiftton did some more laps after that spin and then pit stop. But now you’re done. What took you out? Well, actually, what created the spin was I spun on my own oil going into that corner. I came in, we fixed the leaky uh valve cover. It’s leaking oil and uh we lost the telemetry went down in the car. My gauges said I was running way over 280° and it just wasn’t worth breaking a motor. What about the the the track? How’s it holding up under the attack of all these cars? Oh, the track is just excellent. It’s a I wish I could stay out there and race just for fun, even if I was 20 laps down. I couldn’t have cared. Sorry to see you out. Yeah, it’s a drag, but we’ll get him at Road Atlanta. Well, one of the disappointed Canadians here this weekend. Victor of course wanting to do well because of the big contingent of his fans of Toronto down at Three Rivers to see him uphold the Canadian Camaro Honors, but not today. And you can see number 94 now sliding underneath Paul Armstrong. And oh, a little bit of a block on the Porsche. Well, Paul Armstrong there was being extremely helpful to Hindi. And of course, he ran out of road and couldn’t couldn’t not stay out of the way of David M. But it doesn’t seem to have affected David’s position much, does it? No. two feet behind the the Corvette. This is it’s so impressive. Such dramatically different cars with the Corvette big thundering V8 engine. The Oh, and here’s a problem for 58. That is one of the Stradalis that is slowing down on the track. I believe that is Mark Ne. No sign of oil or smoke, but I think he just simply coasting once more. Back down this front street. Lou Gelotti right there, number 28 now ahead of three. So, he has made a successful pass. Although the battle is far from over, that is a pretty strong battle for the actually it’s not the lead in their class. They’re lying second in their class, second and third. They’re right in front of us a number five car. One of the rare Firebirds that makes an appearance in this series. Camaro is by far the popular choice running here. And you can see they are just ahead of the Seline Mustang and the little bash talon. Currently eighth place Lou Gelotti overall. Oh, spoke. That is a tough race for the lead of this class. Gelotti break time. Oh, now look at defensive move. Defensive move by the Corbett up the inside, but my David Murray thought he was going to go around the outside going the inside. Great pass. David Murray. Oh, but now he comes back again. Hennessy comes back down the inside. He’s going to do it. Oh, that must have been pretty close there to contact I would say. Real mark of experience right there. And John Hinri hadn’t he left that car in the position probably would have put David Murray sideways, wouldn’t he? They probably would have put them both sideways. That’s the thing. And might have done some damage. Bit of very good driving there. They went under the bridge side by side, gave themselves racing room, but at the same time, David might have pulled off an excellent pass. Went to the outside in turn one, inside of turn two. Hy came back to the inside of turn three. So, we had three very, very exciting cars. That was a real nice piece of driving. A lot of respect by both drivers. You can see there. Oh, and there’s smoke. Lot of smoke out of the Corvette. He has a problem. We’ll take a walk as he goes around the Yeah, there’s something underneath the car. It appears it may be going on the exhaust system of that Corvette. Let’s take a look here on the front straight now. New leader, David Murray, coming down in that number one jock and roar Porsche. John Hinri seat. No, that’s strange, David. No smoke showing there. Yeah, I wonder if it was a bit of I wonder if they did actually have contact and it would push the fender onto the tire. Well, we’re going to get another look at just exactly what did happen and see. Now, let’s watch him coming back down into turn one. Everything looks very clean here. No, no possible contact there. David Murray makes a decision at this point, David. Well, the thing is that John Heinusy had gone in tight to keep him out and of course had therefore spoiled his exit speed. Murray pulled around him on the outside and here we are down into turn three and boy oh boy that looked awfully close. In fact, did he just I’m not sure they tagged him or not. Very, very close. Well, a good battle shaping up here. This the the number three Camaro and right behind 33 that is Willie Lewis, the Eagle talent. Great battle. So it looks as if Mike Archie was right because great because Willie Lewis is catching up with those two slightly quicker Camaros. They continue to get stronger. David Murray now our leader in the Porsche over John Henderson’s Corvette. But don’t go away cuz this action is non-stop. Welcome back to beautiful Three Rivers Quebec and Canada. Bill Adam, David Hopkins, and Chris Mccclure enjoying a great day of racing and so is this man. This is David Murray driving that 01 Yakenroar Porsche and he is happily in the lead. Let’s go down to Chris Mccclure with Brad Kentler who’s the crew chief on that car. First of all, great move for the lead by your man David. Yeah, David uh David made a very nice maneuver. We saw it on the monitor here. It’s uh it’s real nice to have the monitor so we can see what’s going on out there. It was a nice move. Back at Phoenix, there’s a long straight section. There’s a lot of twisty bits. It’s high abrasion. Your tires went away. You didn’t win. This course, I think, from a layout standpoint is similar. Are the tires in better shape here? But we’ve learned a little bit about the Goodyears that we’re using and it’s helping us. Uh the learning curve on that pretty serious, but here we didn’t get much opportunity to run in the dry uh so that we could get some good information to set the car up. So, it’s a little bit of a gamble at this point. And Brad says he’s the most worried really about brakes and gearboxes at this place. Guys, I can certainly understand that because there is just no time to let things cool down. Well, this battle here is not cooling down. This is Bill Cooper still running that number 39 Camaro only a little bit in front of Blue Gilotty. David, this is a really good battle here for the lead in the touring class. And just right behind him about kind of picked it out there is Willie Lewis in the 33 car. So there’s the first three in touring and Gelotti has made up ground on Bill Cooper. Now Gelotti did have problems in practice. They apparently had to change a motor, but he started today saying that he thought everything was okay. Not really a great thing to have to do to come in with an untried basically untried engine. Not at all, but it certainly does seem to be running just fine at the moment. Yeah, I’m sure that he is quite pleased right now. And as was pointed out a couple of times before, late in the race is when the Eagle talents were expected to be doing their best. Well, it’s not as hot as we thought it was going to be. It’s pretty humid up here, but there’s a lot of cloud cover. As we just said a few moments ago, it looked almost as if it might rain during this race. So, tire temperatures shouldn’t be a problem. Except, of course, these powerful cars really do put down a lot of power here on on this circuit and could really burn those rear tires up if you’re not careful. Well, you can see we are back in the other class right now. There is that number 65 Selen Mustang trailing quite a bit of smoke out there. It appears that may be going out of the pipe. So, fifth overall in series jeopardy at this point. Number 93 Jim Mcker, the other Mobile One Corvette. Bob Bondra and I don’t feel like having much luck at all. That’s a shame because he was running very strongly. Did a really good time in qualifying. A lot of smoke. We are on board Neil Hanaman right now. We are watching the race right ahead of us. You can see the amount of smoke that the Mustangs put out. In fact, just getting lapped by our leader. That is the 01 car of David Murray who is going to be lapping his own teammate and team owner Yak and Roar. That is the next car in David Murray’s path. Boy, oh boy. Very car smoking heavily now. Now this could be a potential source of worry for David Murray because if he’s laying down any sort of oil on the track. Don’t see how it could not be. Yeah, there’s a lot of it going out there. Lot of traffic coming onto this front straight. Jim Mcker trying to kind of ease his way around once more. The the left hand directional coastline almost contact there. David squeezed his way through that traffic and he has passed Yaken Roar. Now a view on board Neil Hanaman’s car once again. This is the Mustang that gives the courtesy of left turn signals pass. And David Murray I would assume would be very happy to get by the bonder. Yeah because you can see the spots of oil on that car camera on Hammond’s car. See David the wheel right there. That oil is going to be spraying on the people’s wind screens which is not a nice thing to have. A lot of horsepower of these Selen Mustangs. They are just rocket ships down these straights but the smoke is getting worse and worse. Oh, just tons of it coming through that corner closing up this battle. I would think that his problem will be solved for him soon. There you see the oil spots on the camera there. I think it probably be solved soon. They’re almost bound to black flag him. He continues like that. One more lap coming in the hair and maybe no Murray is not going to get a chance. Maybe if he slots up the This has to be really concern to him right now. Not only is he being slowed down, but his windshield will be getting covered. Oh, and number 55 backwards into the wall. That is the teammate. Now, that’s a shame cuz uh Steve Seline was running right up near the front. So, uh bad news for him. That’s coming out of that turn. Well, we’re going to get a replay and watch as he goes in. David, let’s hope he’s not on his teammate. Oh, and he lost the tire. Ooh, tire flat. I think that happened prior to him hitting the wall. We’ll take a look at this as we come back from commercial. So, stay with us for a lot more racing action at Three Rivers, Quebec. Welcome back to Three Rivers, Quebec on the banks of the mighty St. Lawrence River. We are watching a great battle here. Number 93 Mobile One Corvette, Jim Mcker at right behind Y and Roar in that second team Porsche. But behind him, the other Corvette, David, that is John. He has slipped right back now to fourth spot. So his car must be fading and it’s either his tires or I would say you mentioned brakes. Very good possibility of brakes going up here. Tough on brakes this course because there’s some real serious slowing down required on these big heavy cars from very high speeds to you know very slow speed. It is it’s very very difficult Porsche very strong on brakes. They have excellent cooling. One of the flaggers there signaling something to Well, this battle keeps on going regardless of what the flag people are doing inside of the track. Yak and Roar running around the track ahead of both Corvettes. And let’s get a report from Chris Mccclure. Well, the search is on really in Bob Bondon’s car. He came in, they shut it down, they’ve taken the hood up and the cover back at the back of the car out, and they are just trying to find out where the oil leak is. Right now, they have not. Meanwhile, just behind him, Steve Selen’s car pulls in. So, both of the Seline Mustangs in trouble and have come to the pit. Seline did get offline with a bad tire out there and at least nick the wall. I think the only thing they have to do is replace a flat tire and they can get him back into competition. But the back end is torn up pretty well. Well, it’s one of the frustrating parts of racing that I think developing these new cars does take time. Unfortunately, it does and the only time you can do it is at the racetrack. And look at this race here for the lead in the touring class. 39 Bill Cooper being followed very closely by a 28 car of L Gelotti. They’ve both pulled away a little bit now from uh Willie Lewis in the 33 car, the Eagle Talent, who’s losing ground to these two guys. Boy, and Cooper was so close to the wall. I thought he just about scuffed the wall with the right side of the car there. Well, he’s sideways up. See, these two guys are running the tires off their cars now. The harder they drive around here. Whoa. And here’s contact. Now, that was not very clever. No, that is typical unfortunately of Lou Gelotty. He has been penalized a number of times this season for just that. There was an incident where earlier in the race we saw that car, the 01 yak and roar car and John Hinriy avoid that very type of contract contact. I mean there’s obviously no excuse for that. Obviously this is not a great overtaking spot. Cooper starting to turn in and right in the wheel spins him around and luckily for Lou Galotti does absolutely nothing to his car. All he has to do is lift out of the gas, wait for to see where 39 car goes up, ends up, and just drives around the front. Boy, it is totally avoidable. Now we’re getting a report that Gelati is stopped. There he is right there. He is on turn two. So Oh, well, he must have spun or something. I don’t think so. I don’t see any signs of rubber at that point. There’s a pretty hard thump. Oh, that left front of his is pretty sturbing, too. I wonder if he’s bent the wheel or bent some steering deranged the steering in some way. Yeah, I believe you’re right. Look at the car pushing through the corner right there, David. So, I think that Lou has broken something on his own. So, Mike Archer was right. That puts Willie Lewis in the lead in that class now. The race certainly did come back to them. Not quite how they thought it would, but it certainly did come back to them. Just amazing. This is a circuit that just seems to snake bite Bill Cooper. He has had this happen a number of times. That is Cooper once again. Now, he looks like he’s got a down a right rear tire has gone down. I think David tire was hit. So, it probably broke the valve stem on. Oh, yeah. In the pits. So, it probably broke the valve stem off and let the tire down, but he almost made another lap around. So, he’s straight in the pit. Wow. Wow. Wow. Just heartbreaking luck for this man. He was our leader almost from the start of the race. Drove a perfect race until hit by Lou Galotti. Well, we’re going to come back with this exciting finish in just a few moments. They’ll be doing a tire change on the 39 Bill Cooper car, but he is out of contention now as David Murray continues lead for Porsche over that Corvette of John Hinri. Don’t go away. Welcome back to SEC action. Three Rivers, Quebec. We see David Murray continuing to lead this race, but we are under caution right now. So, everybody is queuing up, taking just a few brief breaths of air. And again, we can see that those Eagle Talons, the prophecies have come true because they are in the lead. And uh a great place for them right there. You can see him disappearing under the bridge. For report on what caused this, let’s get down to Chris Mccclure. Bill Cooper has been able to return to competition. This is what’s left of the tire that was on the car. My Catrell is the crew chief and he’s been on the radio with Bill over the last couple of minutes. What’s he telling you? Is there something, Ben? Is there other damage with the machine? Well, he’s asking us how much time is left. We told him 13 laps and uh the car feels basically okay at this point. We’re trying to find where we are so we get back up again. Nice driving on Lu Gilotti’s part, huh? Little bit of bitterness here as Bill Cooper tries to get the car back underneath him. He thinks it’s okay. Well, I hope it is okay for Bill Cooper, but he is certainly out of the picture. He has lost a complete lap because of that incident. So, Cooper’s chances of winning this race at this point are zero. And the Eagle Talents are in the commanding position right now. They are running first and second in class. Let’s get back down to Chris Mccclure. Bill, we thought maybe just a flat tire on the Gilotti car. Greg Lang, you’ve been on the radio with him. There’s more than that. Yeah, we got some broken front suspension when we got together with you here at Tier 9 with Cooper. Uh uh we thought it was just a flat tire, but apparently we broke some suspension on the LG Motorsports Camaro and uh just a tough day for us. Gelati is stopped. The car is on the course. He’ll race no more this day. And to one man who continues to race, David Murray. He is taking the green flag as this race resumes. Now, David, this may be a bit of a saving grace for the Corvettes. They’ve had a chance to perhaps cool down tires and brakes. It’ll certainly cool down exactly both those components very much so, the brakes and tires and gives them a bit of a chance to regroup. Obviously pulled them back up to David Murray. There we see the 94 car now mounting some sort of a challenge, but it looks as if Murray has got it again. He’s going away rather quickly, much more quicker than John Heinness, you would like to see him do. So, yeah, the Porsche has very, very impressive horsepower and again puts the power down extremely well, which in a lot of cases just as even more important on a street circuit like this where traction may not be at a premium. On board Neil Hanaman one more time. Now, we’re following the back of Jim Mcker’s Corvette. Does it look like he had a little burst of smoke? Yeah, but Jim M did is trying to get around Yok and Roar. Yuck and Raw pass on the front straightaway or main straightaway there on that last lap. Now they’re about to try and lap Willie Lewis in the 33 car as we look again from the 32 car. There’s Lewis. Little bit of a bent beak on that eagle leading the class now as a result of Bill Cooper who in fact just right in front of him now, but I think he’s a lap down. Going to be I have would imagine going to be another lap down in just a moment. They are on the front straight right now. Once again, our camera on board the Neil Hanaman Eagle Talon in the background there. But there is the leader that is Willie Lewis Medak Eagle following the Oenor 02 Porsche and then Jim Mcker’s Corvette Casino Bridge into that left hand sweep was quite quick that then a big drop downhill. You get right to the bottom of the hill there now coming up pulling up hill out of there. There’s the 27 car 27 backwards. That’s Rick Deloreio Ford Mustang and he is stopped at the inside of one. Not really a dangerous position. Yak and roar going by Bill Cooper at the end of the back straight. Clean out braking maneuver. 01 is being left as you pointed out David by the uh the David Murray car. He is pulling away. There’s a replay of our spin in turn one. Oh, it looks like he might have had a bit of help. Oh, that was go to faith there. I thought the body shop was waiting for that door to appear. That was a bit of a a real good a bit of evasive drive. That was a great reaction on that driver on a totally blind corner. Now his car must have broken seriously because the driver is out. Oh lord. So this will probably bring out another full course. There goes the leader. Well, now the interesting thing is there’s Hinriy in second spot. Can in fact Jen Roar who must be just about to appear now. Hinriy going very slowly here. He is pulling off the track. He is indeed pulling off the track. Oh no, his race is done. John Hiner, is he the number 94 Mobile One Corvette no longer running in this race? Well, that just answered my question. So now the two are running first and second. This is just an amazing thing. Which of course will elevate young Willie Lewis up into a cool four spot. So what a day he’s having. Well, we’ll find out more about this as we come back with lots more prime SECA racing from Three Rivers Quebec. Welcome back to Three Rivers Quebec. And there is a very unhappy man. That is John Heiners. You can see he has jumped out of that number 94 Corvette standing on the outside of the track. And maybe we can find out what happened there. Let’s get down to Chris Mccclure. Well, the bottom line is a broken axle. That’s why he pulled off the course. But it’s been just a really bad day for John Hinriy. He and his wife both, we were told, woke up this morning with a pretty bad case of the flu. He had to get in the race car, but he felt just awful. Then he got passed for the lead. Now he’s broken an axle. That drink of water probably tastes pretty good right now. Well, John is standing at the side of the track talking to a couple of spectators and you see he’s trying to describe just what happened. one of the nicer guys in racing and a what perhaps the most experienced Corvette driver in this country. Certainly incredibly experienced as we look at the 34 cars on there being chased down by Greg P in the three car Camaro. Real good battle going on here on the front straight just taking place into turn one right ahead of one of the Selen Mustangs. And you can see that dead Mustang still sitting on the inside. But at least the drivers have the benefit of the yellow flag being there to to give them some warning. Kermit Upton’s BMW M3 has flashed past. Kermit Upton is running, I believe, up into sixth place now. And there are one and two in the race. Although this man, David Murray 01, is on his own lap. He has a full lap lead over his teammate team owner Yaken Roar. Now these fellas can really take it easy. the difficulty may be boredom for them. Well, they haven’t got long to go now, but obviously at this stage, you start to hear all sorts of noises and rattles and smells and noise. Just always a bit of a hard stop, especially when you ease up. Of course, the one thing you don’t want to do is eat up too much. That looks like the white flag lap. So, we have one to go. One lap. And it’s very difficult to concentrate and drive slowly. Most difficult thing. and perhaps maybe just setting up a final photograph because with a full lap lead, there obviously is no challenge other than not make a mistake on the lap. These guys have got all the time in the world to set up any photograph they want. They could stop and back him up if they wanted to and still win. That that would be a novel way to end the Corvette. Yes. I don’t think they’d appreciate that. No, I think there may be some some slight taken there. Hold it, Y. And I’ll just move over a little bit to the left here. Get you in the frame. Only about half a lap to go with David Murray in that number 101 white Porsche followed by team owner Yak and Roar right behind. And they are one and two in this race today. Coming into the final hairpin here. David Murray has had just a miraculous season. Well, it’ll certainly cement his lead in this championship. He already went in here nearly 50 points ahead of John Heiny with John Heiny not finishing and him having another win here we can get lined up for the photo. There we are. Well, David is doing the public relation job. Porsche comes one two at three Quebec and it originally looked like it may be a Chevy day but that was not to be. Yak and roar crew celebrating. They certainly did the right job today. And there is the other celebration today. How prophetic. Wait until late in the race. Wait until late in the race and it will come back to you. And it certainly did come back in a big big way. Mike Archer congratulating all of the guys in that eagle crew. Great job. They had all three cars finished. And only Willies has got that little bump on the front, but not any mechanical damage at all. And it certainly did not affect the performance. So Willie Lewis, another winner here in the Eagle talent today, taking the congratulations from the flagger to the side of the track. Yeah, Willie Lewis scores ending up fourth overall in this race. So, a very good result for him just in front of his teammate Neil Hanniban in the 32 car. That is amazing that that number 93 Corvette actually gets credited with third place having a one lap advantage. But a great day for the Eagle team. So again, our congratulations go out to both to all three drivers there as well as David Murray and Yakador with the fortune team. There are the celebrations. There we go. Oh, first David Murray waving as he goes around the track. The door is open. Don’t scuff that wall, David. Don’t scuff that wall with that door open your arm out. You can see he is coming down just pulling into pit lane following this elite car in. I can see not your both leaders. We can see right there that is David Murray and the Porsche waving to the crowd. The crowds here are unbelievable. They stand up in their seats and it it’s almost like NASCAR North. They’re so vocal. They certainly do enjoy their racing up here. There’s no doubt about it. Of course, they have some of the world’s best from here. Jill Vill and of course now his son Jack residents very local to this part of the world. So, a lot of racing history in this corner of the world. It’s amazing racing here at this track. So many of these stands are visible from the track itself that the drivers get inspired. They see the people coming up and yelling. Listen to this in the background. There’s Terry Carly, a 33 car of Woody Lewis pulling into the pits to be appreciated by his crew just about to get the helmet off and we’ll get Chris Mccclure down there in just a few moments to chat to our happy winners today. Great day for all of them. We’ll take a look at how they finished. David Murray y and roar for Porsche. Jim Mcker Corvette, Willie Lewis and Neil Hanaman in those Eagle talents complete our top five. 6 through 10 as Kermitupton BMW. Bill Cooper salvages seventh ahead of Steve Seline, Paul Armstrong and John Hinriy back in 10th place. 11 Greg Tiss, Mark Dixon, Chris Wheel, Wade Mueller, Walter Swick at 15. Great day of racing. We’ll be back with interviews in just a moment. threw some adversity with damage on the right front, but apparently not an issue. Yeah, that was a close one. I got to apologize to car 13. We were really duking it out and he blocked off my line on on the entry to the turn. I went for the brakes, they were locked, I hit them, but uh hey, we we were running really close on that one. After that, it opened up and I could pace it out and chase the Camaros. They ran a real good race. But this uh this Chrysler Eagle Talon put together right by Archer Motorsport, Team Mirage, they did a super job getting me here. We love it. Well, he covered all the bases on that one. David Hobbs, the public relations have taken over. You can see the fans, they are enjoying what’s taking place here already today. Gathered around this track. They get 75 80,000 people here. Just rabbit fans. And a superb place to view from, too. And really, really convenient to town and many, many good restaurants. There they are waiting for the next event this afternoon. clearing up some of the wreckage from uh the preceding race. Interesting too, you can see on the inside of that corner, they have these huge cranes that can yank anything out of the way. So, they’re able to resume racing with only a minimum of delay. For more action, let’s get back down to Chris Mccclure. Good move in the middle. You’re on a roll. Well, I tell you, it’s uh things are going really well right now. You know, the the Roar Motorsports guys put together such a good car. I know I never have to worry about that. Those guys are great. They’ll work all night long for you. Do anything you ask. And hinders was really really strong. It was such a It was a great race. It was a lot of fun. I didn’t think I’d be able to get him because of tight track, but I went inside of him. He got held up a little bit traffic. Tires got a little hot and I moved to the inside. He let me go ahead and go. So, it uh David Murray a winner at Three Rivers. We’ll see you later. Like and follow for
