three golf equipment myths that golfers are still getting wrong. Let’s see if we can fix that. Number one, a five iron isn’t the same as a five hybrid or a fivewood. Now, where they can be the same for some golfers depending on what you deliver and do, often they are not. They certainly won’t perform the same. A five iron might be a bit harder to launch. You might actually hit this shorter if you haven’t got certain amounts of speeds. A modern day five iron is kind of the equivalent of old day four irons and some three irons. meaning it’s basically like a modernday long iron. Often you need that speed to get this one launching where a hybrid might pop up in the air a bit more. It has a curved face as well, which will give you a little bit of what we call roll and bulge. So when you hit the ball out of this end of a hybrid, it might turn back towards target a bit more. Equally a bit out the heel, it might spin back towards the target a little bit more. So in effect helping you that little bit more in different situations when you’re not striking it. and a fivewood. The length of the club is considerably longer than a 5iron, which will give you often much more distance than a 5iron. Number two, low spin drivers doesn’t mean you’re going to hit the ball straighter because you see it spinning offline more. To be fair, for lots of golfers, a low spin driver is going to make you more offline. It’s going to make you more erratic. Low spin drivers are built for golfers who often have a lot of speed and they want to take a little bit of spin down because speed is one of the ingredients that adds spin to the golf ball. So they want to take a bit of that speed or keep the speed in there but take a bit of the spin down. And what they do is they push the center of gravity of this club basically towards the face, meaning it’ll have more twists when you hit it in different parts of the face. So you might lose a bit of ball speed on m hits, meaning if you’re consistent striker of the golf ball and you hit the ball with certain amounts of speed, low spin drivers can work like tall pros. But your average golfer, low spin drivers for most of you going to make you worse. And finally, when it comes to your bag setup, 14 clubs is the maximum amount of clubs you’re allowed in your golf bag. But that doesn’t mean you need 14 clubs. If you can’t afford that many clubs, you just want to kind of play a bit of social golf, you don’t need to strive to get that many clubs. I see loads of golfers enjoy this game. Play to a decent standard by using 12, 13, even 10 clubs. Having good, decent gapping between your clubs would be your ultimate goal. So, lots of people might not go past a seven iron, for instance, in their set of irons. So, they might go from a sand wedge to a seven iron, then have a hybrid, then have a teen off club. Having a reduced set of clubs is not only going to make your bag lighter if you’re carrying, but also a lot cheaper cuz this game can get very expensive. Yes, 14 clubs is advised if you’re going to compete, but if you’re just playing socialable golf, you don’t need 14. If you don’t want them, if you want them, great. But have the amount of clubs that makes you happy. Just think about the gapping if you want to be able to play in different situations. Thanks for watching and I hope you found that helpful.
