Hear from Navy men’s golf captain Jack Tarzy following the Mids’ Star win over Army on Sunday.

The senior talks about winning his first N-Star and the way the entire team excelled in match play.

Navy takes down Army to capture its first star of the 2526 season. I’m here with golf captain Jack Tarzy. Jack to finally get it done. You talked about the pressure all week long. How much of a relief is it that you take down the Black Knights your final year? Yeah, I mean it’s a huge relief. It’s also just awesome uh for the whole team to I mean for the first to finally win one and then for the rest of the guys to kind of get a taste and hopefully go chase after it next year. So, it’s awesome. Talk to me about the mindset about going into this. You go two yesterday. you know that everybody has to pull their weight and you get it done. Yeah, I mean yesterday kind of was a clean slate. Um went out there, few guys played really well, a few guys didn’t play really well, myself included. Um we kind of just knew I mean the match pretty much started this morning and you know we needed four guys to win and luckily you know we were able to to get four exactly. Um but everyone kind of knew what their job was. Everyone knew if they went and took care of their match, took care of their golf ball um that would hopefully be enough. Um, but when it’s a it’s a funny match cuz it’s a team match, but everyone’s just got to do their own thing. And I think everyone did a good job of showing up ready to, you know, golf their way around the course and get the ball in the hole and worked out. You picked up those four wins in the first five different matches. How are you able to fire on all cylinders? Yeah, I think the first few guys um that we had out were kind of eager to get started. I mean, I asked uh to play early in the lineup. Just go out there, try and get a win early because the wins early usually kind of give the team a little bit momentum. The guys behind see that the guys ahead are doing well and then that can kind of fire them up a little bit and we did that. I mean, I knew that, you know, Hudson had played well and that kind of fired me up to go out there and try and finish my match as soon as possible. And then hopefully that kind of rippled behind me as well. Uh not just a star win. This is win number 1,200 in school history for Navy over Army. What has it meant to you to wear that Navy and gold? Yeah, I mean it’s awesome. I mean I don’t know that’s big question. Obviously this school is a lot more than golf and it’s a lot more than sports. Um, there’s a lot of people that have, you know, stood in my shoes before that have went and done amazing things in the Navy and the Marine Corps and getting to follow in their footsteps both on the athletic field and then also, you know, in the service in a year is pretty awesome. So, lastly, Jack, how you going to enjoy this one? I don’t know. I think they’re all waiting for me in the locker room, so we’ll see what’s going on. But I think we’ll go get some dinner tonight as a team and you know we’ll be out here tomorrow for the the Friends of Navy golf event with some alumni and that’ll be a lot more fun now that we’ve won. So I’m excited for it. Enjoy the locker room. Enjoy that tomorrow, Jack. Thank you. Thank you. Appreciate it.
