The first round of the inaugural Hollins Cup, being held at iconic Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, was moved up a day to avoid inclement weather expected Monday.

The 36-hole tournament, which features eight NCAA Division III women’s golf programs and pays tribute to Pasatiempo founder Marion Hollins, a member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, will conclude with the final round on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m.

Initially, a practice round was slated for Sunday.

The early start didn’t cause any issues for Emory University of Atlanta, the defending national champion.

The Eagles’ five scoring players produced a 13-over total in the first round, good for a 12-stroke lead on second-place Washington-St. Louis. Pomona-Pitzer was in third at 29 over.

Emory’s Carys Code and Occidental’s Amy Seo were tied atop the individual leaderboard at even-par 72. Code had four birdies and four bogeys. Seo had six birdies, four bogeys, and one double-bogey.

The Eagles’ Zimo Li sits in third at 2-over 74.

Course knowledge didn’t serve as an advantage for UC Santa Cruz, the tournament host. The Banana Slugs are in seventh place at 49 over. UCSC-B squad is in ninth place.

Sophomore Olivia Lew (UCSC) and junior Jiya Dalal (UCSC-B) led the way for the Banana Slugs. Both shot 8-over 80 and are tied for 19th place with three other players.

Sophomore Samantha Shaw shot 11 over for UCSC and is tied for 26th in the field of 51 players.
