Waterville’s David Higgins was the only man to break par in tough conditions at The K Club and took glory at the Dillon Quirke K Club Pro-Am.

Wet and windy conditions on the Palmer North Course meant that scoring proved tough for the 24 PGA Professionals and their amateur teams, and Higgins, long renowned as one of the toughest competitors on the circuit, proved once again why he’s a force to be reckoned with in testing conditions.

Starting on the 11th hole in the shotgun start format, the 2023 Elavon Order of Merit champion and three-time Irish PGA Championship winner birdied the 12th, 15th and 18th holes, dropping a shot on 13 to head into his final 10 holes at two-under.

A bogey on the second was his only blip on the way home, and nine pars were enough to see him over the line with a one-stroke advantage over Banbridge’s Richard Kilpatrick who finished solo second on level-par.

Glasson Lakehouse’s Colm Moriarty and Nicky Grant of Nicky Grant golf shared third on on-over-par, with St Margaret’s Shane Jenkinson, Damian Mooney of Lough Erne and The K Club’s own Gary Murphy rounding out the top five locked together on +2.

For Higgins, it’s his second victory on the region in 2025, having shared the spoils with EB Golf’s Eric Byrne and Eddie Tracey of Ballina at the Philip Walton Malahide Pro-Am back in late May.
