In today’s video, myself, Coach Locky, and Rory are going to show you the mistakes that 10 index golfers make and what a scratch golfer would do in place of those mistakes. You’re going to learn all the secrets you need to how to play better golf on the golf course and play golf like a scratch golfer. Remember, if you like this video, hit the subscribe button. Remember to hit the like button as well. Really helps the video out. Today’s question for the video is, what is your index at the moment and what is your projected like where do you want your index to get to? Let me know in the comments down below. I think you’re going to enjoy this one. The secrets to better golf and how to play better golf. You’re welcome. Here you go. No. Cut a bit. That’s him playing its That’s fine. Yeah, I would. Yeah, I think that’s all right. Yeah, on the m I would think as Yeah, if he if he’s if he was drawing a bit hookie a bit there, I would said have another one by That’s fine. Well, on you be it. Do you reckon he’s going to need us much? Keep him around his handicap. We want him to stay around his handicap. Like if we keep him near level par would be hilarious, but to stay around he’s off 10 at the minuteish. I feel like he’ll need us more in recovery situations. So like this now if it’s a bit of a thicky lie like I’ll be better at whacking it out than him. Yeah. Um but I I reckon what every other hole we might need us something like that. It’s really hard. The thing is it’s really hard to tell Ray. I honestly not sure this t-shirt is okay. That’s fine. Well on you be it. You’re going back if you that 144 funky lie. I mean, you could It’s fine. Yeah, he could move move it up there if he gets a strike. N quite a big mound behind the ball and down in front. Yeah, there you go. Good. Stay there. Need us. That’s a great shot. Go. Yep. Down in the front. That’s fine. Doesn’t need us. Matthew, do you not think you could get the green from there? Me? Yeah. No, you don’t. Well, I reckon I could. Not with this club standing here. Where were you? Just down a bit. One down one slope. Yeah. There. There. Yeah. Yeah. I reckon I could, but Oh, I don’t know. No. I reckon that’s tough. Yeah, cuz you’re like facing over there. I hit it a really good shot there. Okay, cool. So, what you thinking here, Ray? Lofted club in your hand. Yeah, I’ve got that’s a 56 and this is a 50. Okay. And I’m going to hit a 50 cuz if I get it wrong with the 56, I can just see it almost popping straight up in the air and not going forwards. If that makes sense. Yeah, I’m trying to land the 50. I guess just on or just short and hopefully let it run out a bit. And he’s back on camera, ladies and gents. I think he needs some help. I think that counts as a help shot. So, a common problem with amateur golfers and Rory does it is that his like if I dou mine Yeah. Let’s say I douff mine. I reckon my duff gets near the front of the green. Yeah. Their misses are like big big. Yeah. So, even like wheeling it at duffs as well. It’s not like we come along and we’re all superheroes and oh, look, I’ve stiffed it and Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. It’s that when we go wrong, it’s not generally. Yeah. We’re doing it wrong less cuz you’ve got what a 58? I’ve got 60. 60 off a bare line. Yeah. Yeah. I don’t want the shot. Nice. Bit hard. See, but again, it’s a putt, isn’t it? You see what I mean? The difference between an amateur and a better play. And that’s a rubber shot for me. I’d want to be better than that. Yeah. You are. When you’re staring that down, it’s a little nerve cuz I’ve got an eight iron. Yeah. So you’re going to say maybe you should do this like if if like I’m watching Rory and like he’s playing a lot more so I don’t actually know how well he’s playing but through past experience I know that’s in him. Yeah. So you’re saying why not do what you’re about to do. Go on then. Show us. That’s just like there. Yeah. But I’m not even thinking about that. Yeah. Totally. And that’s the one we’re choosing. Oh, that’s so good. That’s ridiculous. level par. You’re welcome, Rory. We were just discussing if you think about that, Rory’s averaging over five if he plays his out. So, yeah, again, it’s the size of the miss. And the fact that Matt hit a great shot really helps, right, driver tough par four. Just got to put it where you can swing at the next one. Yep. Oh, drifting that. See, I think that is a provisional personally. Right, Rory, it’s a tough drive. If I hear you, bro. Wind off the left. I panic about Yeah, I’ve drifted to get down on the slope. Maybe kicking off there. Yeah, I’m not much better, but I reckon I’m more findable. So, we’re using my drive. Yeah, penalty shots definitely an issue for all of us. What club have you got, Ray? Wedge. What was the distance? 137. Okay. Yeah. Good. That left side. Go, go, go. Oh, that’s a big That’s a Oh, it’s a massive P. It’s a good shot from that lie. For your level of handicap, that would be a tough shot for most. Yeah, that was good though. Well, um I don’t think we help here. I think this is a three putt. It would be a free putt for us. It would be a free putt for him, unless he excels. Yeah, if I two putted that, I’m marking that down as a by a great win. Yeah, I think the the bigger lesson is he he just didn’t have enough club on that second shot. Never had enough club. I think we could put inside that, but we could easily not. It’s always interesting, I think, with amateurs if they’re counting that as a free putt. I’ve Or I’ve not heard yet say, “Oh, I didn’t hit enough club on the second.” Mhm. Hello. [Laughter] Level my path. What a great two. You don’t need to bring your P. Well, no. I said I better have had I had confidence in him. Yeah. Right. A penalty shot used but no free putt needed. Level path. That was a great two park. This is how you play scratch golf as a 10 handicapper. Lovely. Oh, that’s a great shot. Rory, you bringing them up here, are you, Matt? Oh, you’re going to blame me all the time, are you? Matt, your turn this one. Yeah. Now I look the evil one continuously bringing my clubs. Thanks. 96 yards. Got a 50 ball below feet. And in theory, I think I can hit this a little bit further than 96 if I get it wrong. If that makes sense. So, stay where you are. Do not move. Do not move. Do not move. Stay where you are. Just bring your feet back. Bring your feet back. Stop. Put the club down. Miles, right? Just so far. No. No. That’s not your feet. You’ve gone under your toe there. So, no. No. Yeah. And you were actually back of that as in that was forward. If you just step back, you were about there. So, think about that. Your feet line. This is where I want the ball at the three, which means this line is right of the three and the ball is so far below your feet. You had to be aiming this like there with your feet. That’s a proper amateur mistake all day long. Good shot then. So, bowl green. He’s come back onto the green. Good. Two putts needed. Down a bit. Very good putt. Lovely. Not doing gimmies. No. Pop him in, sir. Well done. Really good example there. So, the bad shot you hit through your own kind of devices. Yeah. Isn’t actually a bad shot on a driving range like where I’ve set up and where the ball’s ended up is where it should end up. And also players from there will hit it less than 50% of the way a certain amount of times. Yeah. And also like shanks. Do you see what I’m saying? That’s where they’re you hit the wrong line, but you struck it well enough. So, you are up there. So, even if you missed, you were going to be up in that mound. It It’s a That’s You’ve played that hole really good and with a bad shot in there, but the bad shot is a good quality bad shot, if there’s such a thing. And it’s funny cuz the this isn’t meant to be a negative thing. The spiel you went through in terms of aiming and stuff, when you’re saying it, I’m like, “Well, yeah, that makes total sense.” Yeah. But when I’m over the ball, I’m like at the three, I’m like, “Okay, cool.” And then everything else just goes blurry. Yeah. Which is intention. That’s pre-shot routine. That’s practice. You need better intentions. You’re too like there’s the flag. And that’s what golfers do. They don’t see all the surroundings. Cuz I was saying to Matt like you hit it up there. You’re probably going to be all right. That’s going to go. Do you see what I mean? It is. But you see what I mean? I’m not missing. If I miss right at that flag, I’m really upset from there. You were aimed right of it. Yeah. Good path. Where are you aiming? Um at well almost at the lads on the left on the other course. Yeah, with the wind off the left. Yeah, I like that. I think you could almost aim at the end little bush. If you hit it straight, it’ll be a shame. Yeah, I mean I don’t know how I should have zapped something, but I don’t know how far I’m running out if I hit Well, if you rip it dead straight, you’re on that of a green at a guess. Yeah, it’s right where I like to finish it on that path that they’re near basically. Yep. Perfect. That’s just a perfect drive from Ray. Love it. Very good. Don’t know why you keep bringing that club up, Matt. 217, four iron. Might reach, might not. Doesn’t want to hit his two iron cuz he’s worried that might go further offline. So, he’s getting as far up as he can in play. Yeah, I’m like quite happy with being on target and short if I can hit a shot like that. Do we have He’s leaked it. Matt might need to play a provision. I think you’ll find that. But do we need to have the aim chat again? Yeah. Well, we don’t cuz I know now that you said that. But yes, your aim so far. Like your center right of that green aim with the ball feet wind off the left and a long iron. Yeah. I reckon you’ve leaked that 15 yards, but to the flag you’ve leaked it 50. Yeah. Um definitely could hug left sides more on shots that are going to leak. All right. What club you got, Matt? I’ve got a four as well. Don’t make me it, bro. Oh, there you go. That’s why you bring a player. Get up. Now, that’s putible. That’s fine. Yeah, that’s fine, Mr. Nunch. It’s fine. The camera’s not going to do that justice, but that’s like sat on a tea. That is up in the grass cuz it’s like burnt out and wispy. Is it a bit duffy? It’s It’s not duffy. No, it’s sat up really quite high. When you’re ready. So, like, what you thinking here? I’ve actually got my 50. All right. So, I want it cuz the green’s coming this way. Uhhuh. That could be poppy. Yeah. So, I want it moving forward when it lands if possible. All right. But this is just about It’s almost like picking it off a tea, isn’t it? Yeah. And I can’t put the club down cuz I’ll move the ball. Oh, whacked it. Whoa. Oh, that’s a need. Need you. Yeah. So, I flushed that and just hit it way too hard. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Um, like I’m not going lower lofted. I’m going 58 still. Yep. Because lower lofted on this sort of rough as well if you’re slowing down like you could hit top of the faces and stuff like that not hitting as hard whereas you’re putting more speed through this grass still. So, I wouldn’t do your club selection personally. And then like you, I’m like gripping down, doing everything probably to get that low point in the same spot as what it normally would be. And then I’m literally if it comes higher off the face, it’s going to miss slightly short probably on the green hopefully, but not go massively long. Like just a pump forward. That’s come off the face here. I don’t know if you can see that. That’s like up here. Look. But if I rip that still, it’s going pin eye. And if I catch it up there, it’s just missing slightly short. So saved twice on this hole. Really? I would say. Well, no. His first was the second shot was okay, wasn’t it? Yeah. Get up. That’s fine. Tap it in. It’s a par. It’s just pars at this handicap. If you got 10 shots going, every par is absolute gold dust. Uh, how far is it, Rory? 147. 147. Pin tucked front left club nine. Nine. Oh, that could be good if that’s the right club. Oh, well, I don’t think they can see it on the camera, but that’s what 10 on the road chaser cuz he’s editing it. Yeah, nice. Good shot. That is a good uh shot, Roy. Good drive. Yeah. Well, it is a drive, I guess. Soft tea. It is strictly speaking. He’s driven it there. Yeah. his little face. He’s loving that. He’s absolutely loving it. That’s all by myself. Yeah, mom. Yeah, I just birdied the fish on YouTube. All by myself. Apart from that didn’t help at all. That all by myself, daddy. All me. The mistakes. You can see them. They’re clear and they’re kind of amateurish. You could save so many shots by tidying these things up a bit more. If you want to learn how far you should be hitting your driver, check this video out here.

I have some questions for you:
– What is your golf handicap / index?
– Do you have a target in mind in terms of what you would like to play off?
– What is your biggest weakness / what is stopping you being a better golfer?
As you'll see in this experiment of what Rory / Ray / Raymondo needs to do to play better golf, mitigating the mistakes he makes by simply managing his game with more awareness is one of his best routes to improvement. Golf strategy tips allow you to play like a scratch golfer without really evening needing to change your swing, because often how to play better golf lies more in the art of scoring than it does in perfecting your golf swing.
Of course, hitting straighter drives and short game lessons will help in the long run too, but when it comes to how to save strokes in golf, more situational awareness and course management can help massively, often with immediate effect.
I'd watch a whole series like this. I wish you'd played the whole 18. Well done!
The Muppet tour rides again. Almost.
Mine index is 19.2. Aiming to get to 12 next year.
Yes! Rory back
14 ish and struggeling to get to 10 or below….
I am 6.3, I have set my goal to become scratch, just cme back to golf after 10 years without. intend to practice every day : today : morning 50 full swing , lunch time 1h30 putting , this evening 1h30 chip pitch
RoryRay has a really nice swing.
Great video Mark. Love seeing you three on the course. Wish it was a longer vid.
You three together are awesome. Love this video!
Amateur mistakes!!! There’s so much going on in golf, we overlook the basics. Great golf doesn’t always need to look pretty.
Current (2.3). Target (0.0)
3.5 and like every delusional weekend warrior I think scratch is within reach 😂
Mines at 13.6 and I would like to be at or around 5 index 😅
Index is 0.0 now, just gone up from -1.5. Carrying an injury and really lost interest in golf at the moment, cant get in the groove. Last comp saturday and then im gonna sulk for a few weeks 😂. Goals to get to +2 , biggest weakness at the moment is losing patience after a couple of Boges and being to aggressive and not taking trouble out of play off the tee and missing wrongside
Such a great video, I'd really enjoy a series of these because it speaks to my current game and goals.
My Index is 14. I wanted to break 80 this year, shot an 82. There's still time but just haven't played enough golf this year.
Poor Ray being used as the bad example again XD Thank god he has such beautiful hair and hits such wonderful shots from the beach at times
Great format.
Mark I am a 2.8 HDCP hoping to lower it as close to scratch as possible. A question for you: Does Rory have enough speed to hit a 4 or 2 iron (unless it is solely a driving iron) and land it on a green and stop it? His land angle with a 4 has to be probably 35ish degrees which will never stop. For reverence I have about 108 mph with driver but my longest iron is a 5 just to manage land angle (especially on not perfect hits), I then go 5 hyb, 7 wood, 4 wood, driver.
Just watched Rory duff his pitch on the first …. the quickest way for a 10 index to improve their handicap is spend a lot of time working on short game and putting!
Love to see you 3 together again
just got cut to 5.4 at the weekend shot back to back 74 +3 so love these videos id love to be scratch one day always good to see the full crew back 😀
40 yrs old play off of 5.2
Would like to be down to 4.
My distance control with the putter lets me down.
The return of the thin bullet
7.8 at the moment. Up from 6.5 at the start of the season. Goal for next year and every year 🤣 is 5.
lol he was even right of the three then you ended up showing us. He was way right of it.
The return of the three amigos, we need more 🙂
more of mark, coach and ray. get dan and i will pee myself
Did someone say muppets….
Currently 2.9
Current handicap of 13. I have been as low as 10. Of course as most I’d love to consider myself a better golfer, but way too many years self taught bad habits are so hard to break. Your content as well as Matt’s have helped. My coach is making headway also.
I reckon if I can hover around 10-11 mark would be fair.
I know you bang on about it, keeping stats help see where the leaks are. My coach loves where she can see the last 5 years worth of data from all the rounds, the good, the bad and the ugly.
I was around a 26 at the start of the season and I was aiming to get to 18. I'm down to 20 but with the dark nights rolling in I feel like I've ran out of time. Midweek rounds are coming to an end for me next week. My main weakness is my longer clubs 5iron, hybrid, woods etc. losing shots tee to green mostly.
14.3 now, working towards 10
11.9 at present. Happy with that but gonna start lessons in winter to maintain consistency and maybe break 80 now and then
Glad to have the gang back together, please do a full course vlog again soon Mark!
Really enjoyed this video. On-course lessons are imo the best and fastest way to improve 👊
7.4 currently. scratch is where I want to be. Boring golf is good golf
11:04 – "Doesn't want to hit is 2 iron?" 2iron? are you carrying a 2 iron mark? I think that could be looked at as well…..
Currently off 5.6 Goal is to get first number 4 by the end of the year. Just want to keep improving every year. Biggest issue this season is start line. Lots of confidence inside of 50 yards, just need more GIRs/FIRs
I’m a 22. Goal is +4.
1.7 wish maybe to 0, has not been there in 30years
I'm 55 I'm at a 30 handicap I won't to be in the 80's by next year then 70's by the middle of next year
My weakness is irons to green my stance
Yessssss Rory!!!
I'm a 9.6 index, but I should be much lower. I hit it long etc, short game is pants though. However its recently been improving with practice. The problem i have isn't with decisions etc that scratch players make, I just occasionally hit really wild shots that goes OB etc. Its not from trying something crazy, its just really poor execution.
I’m off 6.8 and I can’t believe I got this low. Just riding the waves at this point 😅
