Did you guys see this kind of like golf viral the sign that says if your handicap is over 15 you may not play the back te’s. I will say we put it up on the foreplay Insta story with a vote option saying do you agree with this yes or no but 95% of people said yes. Wow. Based on that data people are into it. Listen, I see the side of it like I paid to play here blah blah blah. Just go to your skill level. If you if there’s something in front of you that seems daunting and that’s that’s going to take a long time. And there’s people behind you who are going to be pissed when they’re like, “Why is this 25 handicap playing from all the way back?” I think there’s real validity to that. Now, do I think it should be a like a rule to the point where you are not allowed to play back there under any circumstances? No. But I think it’s common sense. Like, if you just aren’t good enough to play from back there and you’re going to take 5 hours, I think it’s totally fine to say don’t play from back there. I’m on the team of you’re allowed to tell them no. Yeah, they’ve paid to play it, but like you’ve designed the whole thing. You’re like, “This is what our golf course is. we have a certain uh you know rule for the back te’s and I just think that a lot of people that go out there and don’t really know the game as well as other people they end up getting caught up in just playing the same TE’s as the people that they’re playing with and it ruins everybody’s day including theirs and they don’t genuinely know it the public perception of you playing up shouldn’t be a negative and like that’s what we have to change playing the correct should be like celebrated not frowned upon I don’t get the mantra, the the mindset, I guess, of like, “No, no, I paid. I’m gonna like play wherever.” It’s like, you paid for a ticket at a play on Broadway. You can’t just like scream out in the middle of the play. Like, they’ll remove you from the theater. You don’t get to just do whatever you want. They should be able to tell you where you can’t play. I agree that it shouldn’t be like crazy strict. If you’re below a 15, you can’t play the back tees. I think that’s unbelievably reasonable.

  1. Who the hell enjoys hitting Driver 3W into Par 4’s? Or 3W into Par 3’s?
I’m now a 6 handicap at 67 yrs old and after playing in college & being scratch for 25 yrs.
Put the stupid ego aside and move up… you’ll enjoy rounds a helluva lot more.

  2. Riggs is a true testament to not letting a disability ruin your life . This guy still out there battling every week on the course and trying to talk and read at the same time with downsyndrome should also be applauded. He gets too much hate for his swing , its not his fault his mom was hacking darts and pounding old English when she was pregnant

  3. 💯% agree. At Torrey Pines South, you must have written permission to play the tips (7802 yards), Brown Tees 0-5 index (7015 yards), Green Tees 5-12 index (6635 yards), White Tees 12-18 index (6145 yard), Yellow Tees everybody else (5373 yards). We always question non residents if they are zero-5, when they tee up on the Brown.🤣🤣🤣. Then we watch them get beaten like a rented mule for 18 holes👍🏿

  4. If you aren't a legitimate good golfer why would you want to play the tips on 95% of golf courses? I used to break 80 fairly regularly and still wasn't legit long/good enough to play the tips on a lot of courses.

  5. A 15 handi cap could be for many reasons I for instance am a 18 but I can drive the ball over 300 and in play. My chipping and putting would have nothing to do with the black tees

  6. Teeing markers weren’t designed by age or sex. They were originally designed by handicap. This idea that I’m male I have to play the “men’s” tees is ridiculous. If you’re a high handicapper move up. Learn to play the game. Simple

  7. While working in Norway in the 1990's, a test was required if you wanted to play golf. A rules, etiquette and skill exam was required with the skill limited to being able to consistently hit a 150 m shot with any club.

  8. If you care enough to play back tees, you better be good. If you aren’t good enough, then you shouldn’t care that much.

  9. At some course in europe you have to prove your handicap to play. The golf pro may even watch you on the range. In Germany you need a "Platzreife" (license) to play. This keeps up pace of play. Your average Europeans are generally better golfers too.

  10. Why would a 25er want to play back It is totally stupid and makes the game not enjoyable. (Coming from a 25er)

  11. Way too many guys play golf with a "dick measuring contest" mentality. Playing the tips, hitting longer drives, claiming you hit each club 20 yards farther than you really do, etc. defines their manliness.

  12. I absolutely agree 100%. These knuckle heads who come in because they are too insecure to play the tee that corresponds with their handicap ruin the pace of play for everyone else.

  13. I don’t think this helps pace of play a ton.

I don’t play tips bc I drive it like 240 on a good day, but my 3 buddies I play with hit the ball 300 yards and they always wanna play tips everywhere we play. It’s just a 20% chance they’re gonna hit it in bounds. So, if they’re playing from the tips, or the whites/blues, they’re still going to be annoyingly searching for their balls and dropping.

But I also get their point that they don’t wanna have drive, then wedge into every hole if/when they do hit good drives, so they’d rather play the tips and have a 7-8 iron in more often instead of driver wedge.

I think it’s common sense like Trent said though. Lot of variables at play like how nice of a course is it, how much did you pay, how busy and backed up is it, do you have a chance of keeping your drive in play, or is it going OB from the tips or the red tees regardless, etc.

  14. Problem amongst friend groups is that differing talent plays together. So you should never play where the best player wants to play from

Be man enough to play a shorter course to ensure ur buddy has a good time

  15. More courses should do this, too many morons ruining the course for everyone thinking they're a 4 handicap and then shanking it into the woods all day.

  16. In Japan you have to spend a certain amount of time on the driving range and be approved by the head professional to actually golf on the course

  17. I've watched people top 50yd worm burners from the tips. If that is even a possibility in your game, you shouldn't play back there.

  18. A good example of Frankie’s point is at a place like Torrey Pines. The course will only put the back tees on the tee box for certain people. Otherwise, they are not in play.
