In this instructional golf video, Martin Chuck works with a student at the Tour Striker Golf Academy on building a more efficient backswing and proper lower-body movement. Using simple drills and clear swing cues, Martin explains how to keep the hips rotating within the feet instead of shifting too far off the ball, a common cause of chunky shots and hooks.

You’ll learn:
How to create a centered pivot without excessive weight shift
Why hip rotation (not sliding) leads to cleaner ball-first contact
Simple checkpoints to improve consistency and ball-striking
How to avoid overdoing drills by focusing on rhythm and balance

If you’re looking for golf swing tips, ways to fix chunky shots, or how to get better at golf with smart practice, this lesson gives you clear takeaways you can take straight to the range.

[Music] Okay, ready? Hands look great. Awesome. Club off the ground. Just a millimeter. Okay, back swing. Make a back swing. Good. In your back swing, you’re going to feel like you’re really not shifting your weight. Okay. So, a back swing isn’t something where I really go this way very much. Certainly not to where I create the chaos of lifting this up and putting it down again. So it’s like my left knee will work toward my flared foot, my hips turn within my feet, and then I can repress a little bit. Okay. Like you’re very good, but I can see some days you probably go and then you’re out of position. One of the key things is that this hip never gets on top of that foot. This hip is always rotated within this foot. And so if we have something where we kick this too much and in here, chances are then we you know you your only misses on when I play with you were chunky and the couple threewood hooks you hit right so the chunky ones guess what too much pelvis away from the target not sharp enough and then relocated good players their pelvis rotates doesn’t go away from the target so I did it this way so we know where our target is here’s a hip here’s a hip Okay. So, it’s tilted. Here’s what the pelvis does this way. And then once it’s here, it goes so you know what I mean. It doesn’t retrace its steps necessarily. It goes here. Tilted right hip high, left hip low. Then it migrates left. The whole center of mass moves a little left. The whole hula hoop moves a little forward. Ball turf. Okay. Flare the right foot more. Flare the left foot more. Club off the ground. Waggle. Waggle. Good. Club off the ground. Okay. So, chunky hook, right? Cuz the club is premature. Okay. Stand behind me like this. So, you’re going to shoot me in the right kester. Okay. And put that thing right there. Okay. And tell me what you feel. Bill, you’re out of harm’s way. Yeah. So, ready to hit one? Watch. Where’d that pressure go? That way. You know what I mean? It doesn’t come back to you. Like, if it does, it’s barely. And then it’s that pocket’s that way, you know? And then I was you get once in a while you kind of go and get too much of this, right? And you’re not in the right spot to, you know, touch the ball and brush the grass. So, this thing If we used it, you use your towel. You can do a lot of things. But if I use this, this ball should easily be hit without any sound of that. You tracking, you know, like this is a five iron, mind you. I think. Yeah. So, this is a, you know, so like hitting this shot. I’m just going to tap it out there. You know what I mean? Okay. So, flurry feet, club off the ground. Pyina, man. like Pyina, right? Really good. Okay. So, I mean, it’s like everything like you got upside, okay, chip and pot like learn how to chip and putt like a beast. And those little waves are just gorgeous. Like those are seeds, okay? Just let’s not blow it by bad footwork and bad pelvis mechanics. Make sense? Yeah. And remember, a little sliver of cheesecake after a good meal is fantastic. Eat the whole cake and you get sick. In other words, don’t overdo anything we tell you to do just cuz it works. Kind of just say, “Okay, I kind of get where he’s going with this, but don’t overdo it.” See what I’m saying? Nice centered pivot, little pressure left. It’ll help you get your club on the ball.
