  1. Great video, Steve.
I understand why some beginner golfers can get up to 30 yards more, as you succinctly say at the beginning of the video.
But, for us single-digit handicappers, it seems that we seem to plateau. For instance, it seems to me that your swing speed has plateaued as well. I've seen all of your videos religiously and it seems that you can't seem to get more than 295 carry with your driver (I don't bother counting with rollout). I myself have peaked at 152-155 ball speed (about 265 carry).
Have you yourself peaked your top speed? What exactly gave you the indications that you weren't going to get any more speed without adding some DeChambeau-style workout or injecting anabolic steroids?

  2. How many mph were you able to gain by testing this hidden speed and distance technique? Did you have any idea that swinging this way would give you faster clubhead speed? I read all your comments and will respond to all good questions!

  3. Just so happens, I practiced using a faster backswing today at the range.

I think I hit a new ball speed and maybe distance record. But I think I was over torquing my back with my hands still going back while my lower body was starting down. Maybe with a micro pause at the top this would be OK.

I only practiced fast swings. Then I got to the first tee with a lake left and OB right. On the downswing I'm thinking "OH NO! TOO FAST!" and put the brakes on. Hit a short pop up to the second baseman.

  4. WOW! How did I not know this, especially as I have been a drummer since age 6! I am BLOWN AWAY. I have always told people my 3 passions, golf, drumming & martial arts share the same fundamentals: tempo, timing rhythm and balance. I have never understood how to translate this to my golf swing with a simple method. You are essentially playing a triplet rock grove, the timing signature used by John Bonham, Zed Zepellins's drummer for those that don't know), in ways no-one had ever imagined. He changed the world of rock drumming and is seen as the most influential drummer of all time. SInce watching your video I have been using one of my many metronomes and my swing feels effortless and my clubhead speed is so much faster. You multiple music / dance analogies spoke to me in a language I understand. FInally!!!! thank you Sir. Eternally grateful.

  5. Ive been trying to swing like Mike Austin for 10 years. After watching this video, I went to the range. I started with full swing. Was doing great with the timing and then my wife saw me pull it left. She said remember the timing. My next shot was a gorgeous 5 yard draw and deep! But what really clicked was when I was working on the 1/8, 1/4, and 3/8 shot that Austin taught. Ive always had trouble with the 1/8 shot. When I incorporated what I learned from Mike (and Steve) with the 1/8 shot, I finally got it! So this lesson helps immensely and especially for short game. You are awesome Steve!
