Ben Hogan and Lee Trevino shared a little-known grip secret that allowed them to compress the golf ball with incredible consistency. By using the pressure point under the right forefinger joint, they were able to drive pressure into the shaft through impact — controlling the clubface and producing that legendary ball flight we all admire.

In this video, I’ll break down how this classic move works, and how you can apply it to your own swing for cleaner, more powerful strikes.

  1. Great stuff Christo. You find important aspects of the swing few if any other instructors address these days. (IOW the classic swing 👍🏽)

  2. Well I can tell you how I do it and it's a good way of what I call shorting the shortening the tool but with my irons I play them all back in my stance which makes it way easier to pour me to always get shaft lean and make sure I'm coming through the target zone with my left shoulder turning even if I stall little bit with the left shoulder since the ball is back in my stance I still compress the s*** out of the ball

  3. Christo, you need to get a gig teaching a tour pro. If I were you I'd try and get on a pro am then drop your wisdom during the round to entice them in.

  4. I have a 13 year old boy, has an OTT swing. Gets good distance. Great compression but he can't hit a driver, a very low duck hook. What video can he watch that he may learn from?

  5. Do you think their shafts might have had more load because the material of the shafts back then? Do we know the exact flex’s they were using and in terms of technology are we looking at a gear effect that wouldn’t necessarily be achievable with modern flex’s and materials?

  6. This is interesting….because when I was young, I had my right hand more turned to the left and it helped me hit it nice and high and accurate.

  7. Watch at 2:47 of the video, Christo's drive. It looks like his ball position is not off the left heel but more towards the middle of his stance. Optical illusion or truth?

  8. I have noticed on some golfers who hit long their lead leg on the downswing is not posted up vertical but actually backwards (ie. angled toward the back foot).. this seems like a stability move for power. Thoughts?

  9. At 4:36 hitting a wedge or short iron, your right hand is definitely not on top as you say… If anything it is with palm facing the hole.

  10. I have been having trouble with my Prothesis (Below Knee L-Leg Amputee) for over 12-years and played golf with a great deal of pain that affected my swing. I am now pain free last week I made this change to the way I grip that Ben and Lee did not realising that at the time this is the way he gripped the club. The changes in my scoring is nothing short of amazing. I am getting my old swing back. I am getting myself ready to play in the Amputee NSW Open to be held at Wollongong Sydney in October. It's great to still be playing golf at 83 and still walk the course. Christo you are the greatest. Like Ben I am Left Hand dominant. Ben has always been the golfer that I looked up to more than anyone else and the way he overcame adversity

  11. Hope all is well Christo! Looks like a nice upgrade from Eaton. Great video and your swing is looking so effortless. Even the lower body is quiet, but you are 100% ripping the ball. Compression at its finest. Keep the knowledge coming and wishing you well! -Klaus aka Nick, from your old stomping grounds.

  12. I think I am Christo’s worse student. I went to one of his clinics because I just couldn’t figure out what he was doing. I watched him hit golf balls and was amazed at the sound and the distance he was getting. The light bulb didn’t go on for me at the clinic, but I kept watching his videos and trying to make my 68 year old body do what he was teaching. About a week ago it just clicked. I was actually on the course on the first hole. I landed my approach shot on the green and two putted for par. On the second hole I did it again. I birdied the third hole…long story short I finished at +2 for nine holes. This from a 26 handicap golfer. When the light bulb goes off the sound and the power generated is amazing!

  13. In the clips you shared Ben Hogan said “there isn’t any pressure down, or around the shaft. It’s just forward.” But you’re saying there should be pressure down?
