Padraig Harrington shares how to properly read a putt on the green, from long range to tricky 3-footers. Padraig explains how the coloring of the green can tell you which way the slope is going and how to see the break near the hole by looking at the grass on the lip of the cup.

  1. Read, rehearse, play. Simple. It is noticeable that he did not say: 1) walk all round your shot seeing it from every angle; 2) walk up the line of the putt feeling the ground through your feet; 3) line up lines on your ball with your intended direction; 4) use some huge putter and/or a peculiar grip etc. Padraig’s advice is timeless, not subject to the latest fad.

  2. I've followed Paddy's tips for a few years now. Whi improved from 25 to 17, breaking 90 regularly in competition.

  3. I've been playing for 3 years now and I finally broke 120, I shot a 118 😁😁😁feels good to finally play decent golf, paddy's tips have helped so much.

  4. Can you tell me what he ment by we can’t have the flag in As I thought you could either have it in or out

  5. Sorrry Padraig, professional golfers' claims that amateurs chronically underread breaks is probably based on their pro-am experiences. News flash! Amateurs usually play on greens that have WAY less break than the greens pros use. So when an amateur gets to play on a tournament-level green, yes, they will massively underread the breaks and usually the speed as well. That is not what happens when they get back on the greens they usually play. When playing a course with fast greens it always takes me a few holes to adjust my reads. The practice greens never have the breaks the actual greens have, so they can help understand the speed differences but not the breaks. Just saying…

  6. Proper advice from a proper player. I predict in less than 5 years no one will be using aim point, biggest time wasting fad in golf. Remember when TW started cupping his hands on the peak of his baseball hat, everyone then copied, but no one does it now 😂, before that it was plumb bobbing!!. Makes me laugh to see pros go through all this crap then leave the putt short😂, it used to be a cardinal sin but now commonplace.
