@PGATOUR pros don’t always have the perfect yardage during a round — but when they do, they know it’s time to play aggressively. 2-time Major winner Xander Schauffele took us through three of his favorite yardages to see on the golf course, and how he plays those shots. @callawaygolf

[Music] hi I’m Z shley just going to go over a few of my favorite yardages on the golf course during a tournament this is the new Elite U it’s a club that I like to hit um off the tea or or into par fivs typically goes about 250 yards little fired up today we got two 59 that was as good as I can hit it so usually goes about 250 uh but kind of hit a little draw with it so I think that’s where the add out a yards came in here we go try to cut that one spin one up about 1,000 245 that’s pretty much the shot I would try to hit into a par five a lot of people argue with the long iron or driving iron versus a hybrid that’s why I like hitting a hybrid I just hit a draw that went to 60 and then I hit a cut that went 245 with 5,000 spin launching at 10 so to me that ball will actually hold a par five and two uh on tour so another sort of favorite stock yardage we’re kind of going upper bag middle bag and then lower part of the bag so we’re going to go with a seven iron it’s about like a one 85 to 190 is um we’re about 172 yards from the hole into the breeze so I’m assuming that this would be probably the club I’d hit in a tournament it’s 187 on the machine quite a bit of wind didn’t play a great amount but looks like it’s kind of coming to pin High I don’t know what’s on the green right there we got a false front folks no it’s on the green we’re all right so was pretty stock I’d say 187 7 iron 74 75 spin same thing 7 iron closer to the back of the stance we’re going into the wind here so going to trust that this thing’s going to come back that was a little bit higher started pretty far right it’s slinging across looks like it’s going to do the exact same thing as the first one catching the slope coming back spin’s a crazy thing this Turf is slightly wet if it’s hard to tell but it’s a little damp that went 197 only because the spin dropped to 6,400 so about 11,00 difference in spin um I could feel on the second one it was a little bit higher in the face so the launch went up and the spin went down the first one was a little bit lower in the face but came out a little bit flatter so um the matchup makes sense just a little bit of contact uh creating those big discrepancies you can see how big of a deal that is when you’re playing in the wind the final sort of stock comfortable yardage this is a 56° we’re about 95 yards out we’re into the fan here as you can tell with the flag I will try to to bring the flight down I can hit a sandwich maybe 115 yards but you never really want to swing hard at a wedge so 100 to 105 is sort of a controlled wedge feeling to me uh with it being really windy again I’ll take the ball far back in my stance uh with wedges since it’s a slower swing it’s easier to sort of stop the club for me for whatever reason the more I sort of swing up and through it the higher the ball will go so I think it’s important when I’m trying to hit these to remind myself always to I’m not trying to stop the club at impact but basically not let the club sort of travel and continue try and sort of stop my stop my follow through um a little bit shorter so try to hit he said 95 yards if I can bring the flight down correctly maybe get you know 100 to 10 3ish yards on this says 98 yards and that has come up short folks but the flight was good on it just absolutely missed my number uh seven yards off on my delivery and we’re short of the green so let’s try that again need about 105 it seems 109 should be coming off a little Hill here spinning off the green actually so as I’ve hit the ball further I’ve definitely hit my wedges worse I think I need to give myself a little more grace on the right side I don’t know why I thought the wind was more straight in I think we’re still a little a little right to left uh let’s check it just a little bit so I’m going to set up a little bit more to the right I actually think that 110 ball was close to the right yardage 104 it’s off the green again I have the wrong Club I think it’s so windy I probably need to hit a gap wedge um that’s going about 105 with a gap wedge would probably be the right Club so this is the kind of stuff that I’m in my offseason but this is the kind of stuff that’s important when you’re preparing for tournament to know one how soft the greens are and then the wind is always a big factor so um I think when you’re going to hit wedges in the wind It’s always important to Club up just because you’re going to make a soft swing and you can take some spin off the ball so it doesn’t land and do what exactly those golf balls are doing
