DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) – Two golf carts were stolen in broad daylight from Enger Golf Course Saturday evening after a large tournament.
One of the carts has been found, one has not.
Enger Golf Course General Manager, Craig Smith, said some of his staff noticed an intoxicated person in the clubhouse who didn’t seem to be golfing. That individual grabbed the cart while it was waiting to be washed.
“When our staff noticed this individual took off and went toward our Skyline 9, they started to give chase and by the time they started to catch up with her, she was long gone,” said Smith.
Payton Sullivan has frequented the course his entire life.
“It’s a great course to play at, and the people are always great here,” said Sullivan.
He was shocked when he heard this happened at his home course.
“So unbelievable,” said Sullivan. “You wouldn’t think, especially in Duluth, that someone would steal a golf cart in the middle of the day, but things do happen, I guess.”
The theft prompted Duluth Police to search for the cart using drones.
Additionally, the St. Louis County Rescue Squad was called in due to fears one of the suspects was under the influence.
“We were concerned that the cart rolled over on ‘em, so they called out the St. Louis County Rescue Squad,” said Smith.
Smith says some serious security changes are in order.
“We’ve made some procedural changes when it comes to carts in the cart well, and that won’t occur again, but it’s unfortunate we have to go to those resorts,” said Smith.
He’s hopeful the cart will be reunited with the rest of the bunch soon.
Anyone with any information on this incident is encouraged to call 911.
Duluth Police Chief Mike Ceynowa said if caught, the individual would face felony theft of a motor vehicle charges.
