WASHINGTON (Gray DC) – Congress is out but President Donald Trump remains in the nation’s capital, which welcomes the Great American Farmers Market to the National Mall.
After a week of will they/won’t they, the U.S. Senate chose to take its August recess Saturday night. Despite Trump demanding senators stay in Washington to confirm his nominees, Senators decided to take their traditional break. It comes after they could not get Democrats on board to fast-track the confirmation of some of Trump’s nominees.
The House of Representatives adjourned for its summer break July 23. Both the House and Senate are scheduled to return to Capitol Hill Sept. 2.
Also this week, more fallout from Trump’s latest round of tariffs. The president announced the framework for deals with several countries including Japan, South Korea and the European Union. He placed tariffs on many American trading partners, including 35% on Canada and 50% on Brazil.
This week, the Great American Farmers Market is coming to the National Mall. The U.S. Department of Agriculture is hosting the event that will showcase America’s farmers, ranchers, and agricultural innovators. It’s part of the nation’s 250th anniversary celebration.
