China’s Haotong Li kept himself firmly in contention at 11-under, while England’s Matt Fitzpatrick surged with a 66 to move to 9-under, keeping his hopes alive of becoming the first Englishman to win The Open in over three decades. Rory McIlroy gave the Northern Irish crowd something to roar about, firing a brilliant 66 of his own to jump to 8-under and set up a thrilling final round at his home course. Joining McIlroy at 8-under is rising American Chris Gotterup, who stayed steady with another strong performance.
