It’s the last major of the year as Leona Maguire and Lauren Walsh bid to become the first female Irish major winner at the AIG Women’s Open at Royal Porthcawl in Wales.
Anna Foster may join them after the Elm Park star carded a three-under 68 in Final Qualifying at Pyle & Kenfig this morning to leave her at the top of the leaderboard as the afternoon wave begin their round.
Seventeen places are on offer with Beth Coulter, Aine Donegan, Sara Byrne, Annabel Wilson and Olivia Mehaffey also bidding for a spot in the field this week.
Maguire continued her fine form at last week’s ISPS HANDA Scottish Open with a share of 16th place at Dundonald Links proving a nice follow up on her T7 finish at the Evian Championship and she looks set to break back into the top-70 of the Rolex World Rankings.
Walsh on the other hand has gone off the boil slightly, missing her second successive cut on the Ladies European Tour.
It’s fair to say there will be plenty of focus on Lottie Woad this week.
After winning the KPMG Women’s Irish Open as an amateur and then sensationally finishing T3 at the Evian Championship, Woad continued her incredible form by winning the ISPS HANDA Women’s Scottish Open last week in her first start as a professional.
The Englishwoman will surely enter the week as one of the favourites as she looks to wrap up a major title in double quick time.
