Martin’s Legacy Drill

it’s with great pride and a bit of disbelief that we’ve come to the final lesson on the final chapter of School of Golf martin it’s time for you to pick the one drill that you want to be your legacy well that’s a hard one um there’s so many great ones how do you pick well it has to be for me it has to be something that influences the angle of the face because that’s really the the skill in golf is being able to control the face of the club so the last drill I want to do is what I’d call the modified guarded Dickinson drill okay and so first of all I want you to understand I’ve got this two-colored bat one side red one side white even if I was just going hip height to hip height you turn the bat when you’re playing golf you absolutely turn the bat when you’re playing golf yes you hit the wall with the battering ram but you’re still turning the bat so the So I always say to everybody I teach the toe must go now we don’t want it to be closed but we certainly don’t want it to be open so I like people think the toe must go i’m turning the bat and the drill that I have for that clumsy clumsy the drill that I have for that is a drill I learned from Gardener Dickinson i’ve just modified it a little bit where you set up you put yourself at about what would be impact the weights forwards the hands are forwards you take the club back to about here you have a little bit of weight shift little bit of weight shift little bit of weight shift and then on four you go ahead and hit the ball and I can’t hit it any straighter than that that is the heartbeat the soul of the golf swing the hip to hip it really doesn’t matter what you do up there and what you do up here if you’ve got it right down here you’re going to be a very good player so I want your last show to have this as your last shot all right the modified guard Dickinson and I want you to let go of the club and I want you to look at your golf club and I want you to say the toe must go the toe must go good you’ve told it you’ve told it the toe you’ve told it good and proper the toe must go here we go the toe just a mod go to impact it’s just like a little punch drill yeah no not past the ball don’t go past the ball that’s it and then hit it when you’re ready pretty how was that for your last shot on this show felt very good a good one to finish on fantastic
