Right, Ping have got two new irons out. So, here’s what you need to know. First up, we’ve got the i240 iron, which is a direct replacement for the very popular i230. Now, the main changes in the tech here are firstly the grooves, which there’s now a lot less of, and they’re spaced further apart than on the i230, which has come as a direct request from tour feedback. Secondly, Ping’s introduced a new lighter multimaterial badge in the back cavity, which has saved around 8 1/2 g that they’ve moved lower to optimize the CG and help with the launch. My main observations from testing have been the surprisingly soft feel and the noticeably higher ball flight. I think these irons are massively going to appeal to a very broad spectrum of player all the way from the elite to the more handicapper. Now the next up is the IDI. Not hideyh high, the IDI. This is Ping’s new utility iron and I have to say I’m very fond of this one. It’s an absolute rock ship. The main tech story here is centered around the compressed air pocket that Ping has placed within the club head. It’s been designed to dampen unwanted vibrations and frequencies, and it seriously works. The feel on this is off the charts good, and it sounds great, too. Now, this one comes in a two, three, and four iron, and each of these has varying CG to help it do the job it’s designed for. So, the two’s been tuned to produce a very low launch and low spin, very much a driving iron style club, while the three is more versatile in the mid launch, mid spin area. and the 4 iron. The CG there has been placed very very low to facilitate as high a launch as possible. I’ve seen some great numbers in testing with both of these new releases. So if you’re in the market currently then these should definitely be on your radar.
