A band of thunderstorms is churning toward Texas, and it’s likely to reach the Panhandle area around Monday afternoon, the National\u00a0Weather Service in Amarillo\u00a0wrote in its forecaster’s discussion Sunday. The NWS is also watching for some “very decent directional wind shear” that could lead to large hail and damaging winds.<\/p>\n
“This also translates to a few pockets of good low-level wind shear that make the potential for a tornado unable to be ruled out for the day either,” wrote the NWS on Sunday. “This activity looks to have the potential to extend into the overnight hours as the trough continues to dive south into the southern Great Plains.”<\/p>\n
The NWS is warning residents of hazards including winds of up to 70 mph and golf-ball-sized hail, which means a diameter of about 1.75 inches. The NWS in Dallas\/Fort Worth is also alerting residents of large hail, specifically in the event of “isolated supercells.”<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, a cold front is scheduled to arrive in North Texas by Tuesday, pushing south and bringing potentially strong storms. The front is likely to impact the Dallas\/Fort Worth area, though Southeast Texas could get some of the action, as well. Currently, the NWS in Houston\/Galveston is forecasting a chance of thunderstorms Monday and Tuesday\u00a0with highs around 90.<\/p>\n
Showers are likely for Wednesday with highs around 90.
