IN 2017, JUSTIN Thomas announced himself on the PGA Tour, winning the 2017 PGA Championship and the 2017 FedEx Cup, securing the award for PGA Tour Player of the Year along the way. By 2018, he was ranked number one in the Official World Golf Rankings and would finish first on the PGA Tour money list. But the following year, a skin cancer scare threatened the then-26-year-old\u2019s momentum toward stardom. \u201cKnowing how close I was to a life-threatening situation was a real wake-up call for me,\u201d Thomas tells Men\u2019s Health.<\/p>\n

After his dermatologist discovered a concerning mole on his left leg during a routine checkup, they quickly had it removed. Despite leaving the pro with a visible scar, it was caught in the early stages, and the removal was successful. Thomas went on competing, winning the Players Championship in 2021 and his second major, the 2022 PGA Championship. Throughout these tournaments, however, he had a new, additional goal.<\/p>\n

\u201cSince my experience with melanoma, I was always on the lookout for a better sunscreen,\u201d Thomas says. When he couldn\u2019t find a high-quality option without digging more into his Tour winnings than he\u2019d like, Thomas opted for an alternative solution: He created his own in WearSPF.<\/p>\n

This made it difficult to encourage those around him to consistently apply sunscreen, which was quickly becoming a passion of his. \u201cI urge everyone to wear sunscreen and to go get your annual skin check,\u201d Thomas says. \u201cIt is crucial to be on top of this. Doing so saves lives.\u201d WearSPF was ultimately a reaction to this struggle and his desire to find the best ingredients in products without high prices.<\/p>\n

At the time of this writing, he\u2019s sitting 36th in the FedEx Cup rankings. As for aspiring golfers, Thomas has one major piece of advice: \u201cWearing sunscreen should be part of your warm-up routine, and if not, you\u2019re not ready to play.\u201d<\/p>\n
