DeChambeau was in Phoenix this week at Ping HQ \u201ctesting equipment\u201d after the golfer \u201cbecame an equipment free agent at the end of the year when his contract with Cobra-Puma expired.\u201d Sources said that Cobra \u201chad been negotiating with DeChambeau and his agent Brett Falkoff, to extend their relationship.\u201d But another source said that as part of DeChambeau\u2019s LIV Golf contract, \u201cthe upstart league had to sign off on the equipment deal and allow Cobra to use his likeness from its tournament footage.\u201d Sources added that LIV \u201chad a proposal since at least October and had been unresponsive.\u201d During last week&#8217;s Asian Tour PIF Saudi International, DeChambeau \u201cput a TaylorMade Stealth 2 Plus+ driver into play\u201d which \u201cwas the last straw for Cobra.\u201d Schupak noted DeChambeau \u201cwas informed ahead of time that there would be repercussions if he opted to play a TaylorMade driver but did so anyway&#8221; (GOLFWEEK, 2\/9).<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph no-section \">NO GUARANTEES: GOLF DIGEST\u2019s E. Michael Johnson noted there has \u201cbeen a guessing game\u201d ongoing as to what company the former U.S. Open champ might join moving forward.
