Odyssey Tri-Hot 5K putter<\/p>\nOdyssey\u2019s 11-year dominance as the No. 1 putter brand across professional tours worldwide already appears well on its way to a 12th this season.<\/p>\n
Nothing exemplified that better than the first week of February.<\/p>\n
Callaway Golf\u2019s putter subsidiary took top spot on the PGA Tour, LPGA Tour and DP World Tour that week with a number of impressive statistical narratives.<\/p>\n
In winning the putter count at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, Odyssey had close to 40 per cent of all the putters in play while earning 49 per cent of the event\u2019s total purse. By the way, that was coming off a Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines near San Diego the week before where Odyssey had earned 51 per cent of the purse.<\/p>\n
Also of note were the winners of those events. A pair of non-contracted Callaway players, Tom Hoge and Luke List, both used Odyssey White Hot OG 2-Ball putters in those back-to-back west coast wins.<\/p>\n
At the LPGA Tour\u2019s Drive On Championship in Fort Myers, Fla., Odyssey had more than double the number of putters in play than the number two brand while overseas at the DP World Tour\u2019s Ras al Khaimah Championship in the United Arab Emirates the putter brand was used by 60 per cent of the field with more than three times as many as the number two brand.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat an incredible week for Odyssey,\u201d posted Sean Toulon, Odyssey Golf general manager and founder of Toulon Design. \u201cFirst, it\u2019s launch week and our new products at retail. Second, as is becoming habit, our new products were in play in massive numbers on tours all over the world. We destroyed the counts. Red shafts and white hots everywhere.\u201d<\/p>\n
Odyssey\u2019s newest products for this season include the new Eleven, Tri-Hot 5K and a line extension for Toulon Design. (A couple of additions have also been made to the aforementioned White Hot OG line.)\u00a0<\/p>\n
Slipping into a Golf Town location last week to familiarize myself with some of the new models, the one that got my attention was the Tri-Hot 5K.<\/p>\n
Odyssey Tri-Hot 5K putter<\/p>\n
Although it has the appearance of a classic Anser style blade, the putter rolls more like a mid-mallet design. To do that the Odyssey design team took advantage of a trio of materials \u2014 stainless steel, tungsten and 6061 aircraft grade aluminium \u2014 to push centre of gravity (CG) forward and dramatically increase moment of inertia (MOI) to a level normally found in mallet designs but rare in a blade product.<\/p>\n
Tungsten is the key. Odyssey uses a lot of it in the Tri-Hot 5K. As a product combination, the use of the three materials together promotes \u201cimproved performance in speed control, spin control; speed consistency on off-centre hits and much tighter downrange dispersion that limits off-target spin,\u201d according to the company.<\/p>\n
Tour validation for the product was quick. Talor Gooch won the RSM Classic back in November the first week the Tri-Hot 5K was available on the PGA Tour.<\/p>\n
Other staff players switching into one early were Francesco Molinari (Tri-Hot 5K One) and Min Woo Lee (Double Wide). The new line also includes the Tri-Hot 5K Two, Three and Triple Wide.<\/p>\n
\u201cI really like how it feels off the face which is a huge plus for me,\u201d said Lee of the Double Wide model. \u201cThe consistency and look is what made me switch.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Eleven should satisfy Odyssey mallet lovers.<\/p>\n

Featured in a Tour Lined, Triple Track and a clean, unlined version (all based on aim function and personal preference at address), the new Eleven models all incorporate the company\u2019s White Hot insert with a head shape which also pushes CG forward.<\/p>\n
According to Odyssey, the Eleven is a putter that \u201cdelivers the tight dispersion of a blade in a larger mallet design.\u201d<\/p>\n
Undergoing a number of changes this season is Odyssey\u2019s premium-level Toulon Design putters. Now standing at a tour validated product repertoire of nine models, the line has undergone some significant upgrades for this season.<\/p>\n
Along with reconfigured head shapes, Toulon Design putters have been incorporated with new deep diamond groove face milling and split weight forward weighting. Each model also now comes in a richer, more attractive Tour Satin Black finish.<\/p>\n
Completing the changes to Odyssey this season are new versions of the Stroke Lab putter shaft.<\/p>\n
The graphite-steel Black Emerald Stroke Lab has a shorter steel section which saves seven grams of weight making the putter shaft\u2019s weight 40 per cent lighter than standard steel.<\/p>\n
The saved weight was repurposed into the head and grip to provide counterbalancing to help golfers with stroke tempo.<\/p>\n
Odyssey\u2019s Red Stroke Lab shaft is also seven grams lighter than the original. The difference is stiffness. The Red is built stiffer helping increase putter stability through the entire stroke.<\/p>\n
All of Odyssey\u2019s newest putters are now available at retail.
