Whether you’re chasing better alignment, toe‑up balance, or premium feel—this Odyssey Max Stripe lab review breaks it all down. Thanks for watching, and play well! 😊
to the channel guys today joining us on a sunny day in Scotland at Dumfreeze and Galloway Golf where I found a couple of Odyssey putters that I’m very interested in it’s the new Odyssey Max stripe and Max one and we’ve got the revealer a lot of people love to see the revealer test this is a lab revealer to see if it strokes square to square so we will be doing that test today and we’ll also be having a look at some of the other features because I think it’s fair to say there’s an array of zero torque putters on the market now but what other features do these putters have other than just being zero torque so I’ve been looking at both these putters and for the purpose of the video I’m going to be testing with the stripe and the reason being is although they’re square to square putters and they should you know obviously swing square to square I still think as a golfer it’s nice to be able to almost see it in motion to be rest assured that it is actually you know obviously staying square to square through the stroke so I’m going to test with this one so the pros been kind enough to let us test these out on the putting green there is a little bit of greens maintenance going on at the minute right so the first thing that stands out to me it’s the first time I’ve ever held one of these putters is the forward lean it sort of leans forward must be a few degrees two three degrees and obviously you’ve not got the press grip so yeah it feels like you’re almost like forward pressing the putter which is how it’s meant to be played you’ve got to try to maintain that forward press as you’re stroking it if you’ve tested some zero to putters yourself you’ll probably know that although they’re not lighter in mass they can actually feel lighter but this one I don’t know i’ll have to check the mass of the putter but somehow it don’t actually feel too light that first stroke I didn’t feel like I had to hit the ball too hard i can let the weight of the putter do the work and that’s what you’ve got to be able to do with these putters you can’t manipulate them you’ve got to let the technology take care of the you know the path and just focus more on the length the stroke and getting your aim right it does look very familiar doesn’t it almost looks like the DF3 putter in shape can’t wait to get this in the revealer to see what happens that’s good i got the line there and I got the weight in just three puts it had a bit of swing on it that didn’t it little bit of top dress i mean these greens are going to be very quick when they’ve swept them this afternoon but uh just a little bit slow so a little bit longer stroke required but I don’t have to feel like I’m manipulating anything i can just use my shoulders keep a nice loose grip and just trust just trust the putter he’s going to swing square come on break it wants to come tell you what lad might be getting a bit worried i’m just trying to find that’s what I’m looking for because it’s time for the juicy stuff is this putter going to swing square to square in the revealer and we’ve seen already that Bettonard has cracked this one so they’re using similar technology to Lab but we’ve got to give Lab credit credit where credit’s due because like Sam said our master fitter on the channel is that although a lot of brands are cracking the zero torque in a way that sort of labs cracked it they’re only available in most sort of stock models you know there’s not that adjustability that you can get with Lab if you wanting a broomstick or you wanting an arm lock or you know changing grips and stuff like that it’s it’s a lot more limited so let’s swing it is it going to return into any particular spot it doesn’t seem to be no it’s not returning to anywhere consistently so that’s a good sign now this is a true test is it going to swing square to square wow absolutely oh hang on hang on i’m saying absolutely it’s not entirely let me just try that again it seems to be like opening a fraction on way back so it’s sat square now it’s Yeah you see there look it’s open now if you can see that it kind of it’s so close to being zero torque but it’s kind of opening just a fraction and then stays open a little bit like what we saw with PHG and the the Allen putter it’s not any by any means like you know a traditional putter where you know some of them have been spinning round in revealer but it does just fractionally open as you go back and then it look it stays open which is why I might put well with it actually because we’ve seen that for me personally someone who pull pulls across the put um with an open face it suited me that putter so we’ve got Kent with us from Alifax Golf Club who’s who’s on this trip this week and he’s never actually tried a zero to put so I just want you to hit one and give me your first sort of feeling and impression is there anything different about holding your own putter anything you think you’ve got to do differently to me the face looks too far forward yeah
I’m not keen on center shafted putters and it looks like it
you’ve got to leave your hands forward
yeah it’s a putter that has to be like pressed you’ve got to have a a forward press in your stroke yeah if I’m if I’m square I’m seeing too much face
yeah so so to be fair to Odyssey it is explained to you that if you buy one of these you have to adopt like a forward press stroke so you can feel like you press your hands forward until the face feels like it’s a you know neutral loft it’s soft off that insert
i knew you were going to come up short cuz I uh I felt like that myself so you just need to take a little bit longer stroke and to be fair to you you’re somebody that I played with it last couple of days you’re a very very good putter so you don’t really particularly need much help with putting
thank you no that’s too hard the inserts very different
soft
is it one of the white hot inserts
yeah you’re used to playing with like a
I play with a
just a hand handmade whitam at the moment
yeah so it’s just like a steel completely steel
face balanced to be fair out of block without any practice they’re not disastrous results but what I were interested in there is you mentioned
that press
yeah it’s it’s weird
and I think for a lot of people you know who
I’d normally be here
yeah a lot of people will find that and I think there’s a way around that actually it’s buying one of press grips because if you try a lab with a press grip on it you don’t feel like your hands are in front okay
and I think I think that’s where I’ve been saying this we just say they’ve got to find a solution to that of putting a press grip on it now you can obviously go and buy a press grip and put one on yourself and I think that makes then a putter that’s very close to a lab um but you know I can’t
very similar shapewise
i can’t believe they haven’t gone full tilt because they pretty much copied a DF3 haven’t they it’s very similar shape i wonder what’s under this cap
so if they can’t if they can go that far to copy the style of the head why can’t they just put a press grip on it and then you’ve got basically you’ve got a lab at half the price
well my guess would be there’s going to be some litigation there from lab
i I would imagine so as well i mean yeah it definitely One thing I really do like about this putter is the fact that the although it does look very lavish they’ve combined it with that sort of Odyssey Versa look which you know I’m a massive fan of and I think uh I’d certainly if I were going to go down this road I’d want the stripe version because it’s just reassuring you can let the putter do its work but you can also see the putter moving straight back and through i think with the black head the entirely blackhead you’re having to trust it aren’t you you’re having to just trust but uh for me personally I do like to see it i know Kent was saying that it’s quite a soft feeling putter but he’s going from like a a pure mil solid metal putter i don’t think it I think this is one of the quickest ones off the face that I’ve tested and what I would say is if you’re on UK greens or slower greens this would definitely be one that I could recommend to you because I’ve tested a lot of zero to putters and the only one I’ve kind of found that’s been suitable for slow greens and longer puts out in UK has probably been the Axis that I’m currently using and all the other ones I feel like they could do with offering a bit more of a firmer insert or a maybe a heavier putter i don’t I don’t know might spit on technology but they’ve got to get around these zero to being so sort of soft and because you can’t you can’t swing the putter with your hands you’ve got to let the putter do the work and take a little bit longer stroke and you know what i didn’t think I was going to say this but this is definitely one I reckon if I put a for I could play with it without a forward press grip but I mean test a lot of putters i do prefer the feel of a forward press grip this is definitely one I could put in my bag if Dan’s next door neighbor Kev’s watching I tell you what this could be your next putter can we finish off 100% from six foot yeah guys I hope you’ve enjoyed that video just a little bit of a look at the new Odyssey we’re going to say Odyssey DF3 odyssey Max stripe so I think it’s safe to say if you’re looking to sort of move into this zero torque market it’s definitely not one to overlook and like I’ve said I’ve said it before with these Odysseies with forward press grip on I don’t think you’re too far off a lab guys i hope you’re enjoying the videos if you’re not already subscribed hit the subscribe button and thanks to Proer from Dumb Freeze and Galloway for letting us try the putter and getting us out this afternoon and uh yeah make sure you stay tuned we’ll be out on the course this afternoon

I was one of those who suggested trying this and I’m delighted you did! I tried the max stripe and got on very well with it, in the shop at least!
Too much face on show for me there Gaz.
I definitely prefer the look of my milled mallet(s) 😉 to these 'branding iron' zero torque putters.
The one thing I really liked was the insert, it will be great for quick greens…we should have tried it at Silloth and Carus Green as both those courses were on pacey greens 👍
Good vid as usual Gaz. Would be interesting to see if Sam could put a pistol grip putter grip on sideways to create a budget variation of the press grip.
ZT spider is the king of ZT for me, with 1° press it's like a laser guided missile 🔥
I really like your reviewing honesty, you make it all clear&precise, your the one to watch if honesty is what you want! I don't like centre shafted putters,so any of the zero torque putters are a no for me,but I enjoyed your review 😊
Zero torque putters are nice, but the reveler really just shows the balance of the putter. Ever putter has a zero torque zone, it's called tge "sweet spot". If you hit the putt on the sweet spot each time , then any putter will have zero torque. The best putters repeater hit the sweet spot. The Zero torque putters are made for those that can't hit the sweet spot constantly. This is why they are popular for amateur and poor professional putters.
Love your putter review videos Gaz
Lab have a patent on the press grip i believe
Great review Gary 👍
Anybody can male a LAB putter. But, can you really not hold a putter without it twisting in your hands lol
Interesting but guess no use for my arc type putting stroke 🤔
