LIV Golf star Sam Horsfield will not be playing at The Open later this month after he walked out of qualifying.
Horsfield’s hopes of playing in the final major of the golf season came crashing down after a nightmare Tuesday morning.

The 28-year-old was taking part in qualifying at West Lancashire Golf Club, with the top five places claiming a spot at The Open.
However, his chances of joining the field at Royal Portrush on July 17 were already all but over after just nine holes.
He carded a seven-over-par first nine in what was a woeful start, leaving him out of contention in the 36-hole event.
Horsfield reached the turn after playing a total of 43 shots following three consecutive double bogeys on the seventh, eighth and ninth.
It was at that point that he opted to call time on his day.
The LIV professional abruptly left the course in Lancashire, failing to notify officials that he was retiring.
And because of that, it meant he was later handed a punishment.
Horsfield was disqualified from the final Open qualifying only a quarter of the way through the event.
It means he won’t have a chance of playing at the major at Royal Portrush, in what would have been his second appearance.
The Englishman, who qualified at West Lancashire Golf Club last year, missed the cut in 2024 as he sat on +8 after two rounds.

Horsfield joined LIV Golf when the controversial breakaway organisation was formed in 2022.
He is a member of the Majesticks team on the tour, with his teammates including Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood and Henrik Stenson.
His best finish of the LIV season so far was a T17 in Adelaide in February and he sits 37th in the overall standings.
Horsfield is so far the only player to withdraw from Open qualifying in Lancashire as a second LIV star dropped out elsewhere.
Adrian Meronk retired from his 36-hole event in Scotland at Dundonald Links before his second round started.
Meronk pulled out after carding a three-over par first round.

The LIV players who have had a better time though, are British veteran Westwood, Lucas Herbert and David Puig.
They are looking likely to qualify for The Open at Royal Portrush.
Meanwhile, Horsfield’s Majesticks teammate Poulter is competing alongside his son for a place in the major too.
Poulter Sr. and his son Luke are playing at Royal Cinque Ports and will both be hoping to qualify.
The 2025 Open Championship begins on Thursday, July 17 and will run through until Sunday, July 20.
