    >Is this shot even legal?

    No.

    >How would it be scored?

Round would be a DNF because, believe it or not, straight to jail.

Can’t hit a moving ball again. Can you imagine golfers with putts.

  3. Trillwater

I think you would count the second hit as a stroke as well as a penalty stroke for intentionally hitting the ball in motion. So +3 on that incredible shot.

    Deliberate double hit

    1. Two separate strokes
    2. One shot penalty for hitting a ball in motion

He’s +3 after that incredible feat of hand eye coordination.

  5. Rule 10.1a was updated in 2020 to allow accidental double-hits with no penalty but only for a single stroke. That was two strokes so penalty shot assessed plus the two hits.

  6. DeepSouthDude

He’s better off taking the one stroke penalty than he would be had he allowed his shot to fall into the water. Same when Phil did it.

The penalty is not penal enough.

  7. skycake10

There’s no penalty for unintentional double hits but this was clearly intentional, so it would be whatever the penalty for interfering with your ball while it’s moving (I don’t remember what that is).

  8. Wonderful-Jump8132

2 strokes for intentional swings at the ball and 2 stroke penalty for playing ball in motion. So 4 strokes total.

  9. Turbulent_Winter549

You can take a penalty and rehit any shot so maybe try again? I dunno

  10. mustang19671967

No legal and if we are not playing for money would count it as one shot , would buy him a dog at 9

  11. Kitchen_Cream1629

It’s 4 strokes total — the first stroke + the second stroke at the moving ball + 2 stroke penalty.

    Rule 10.1d

    >**Penalty for Making Stroke in Breach of Rule 10.1:** [*General Penalty*](https://www.usga.org/rules/rules-of-golf/definitions.html#_ddee7cb0-9828-4234-b6c2-6e0636066c2c)**.**

    >In [*stroke play*](https://www.usga.org/rules/rules-of-golf/definitions.html#_d90e8575-8f7f-4f77-ab80-dfc2c0dc60e9), a [*stroke*](https://www.usga.org/rules/rules-of-golf/definitions.html#_8382be70-e833-4f60-83e6-f23f390edb19) made in breach of this Rule counts and the player gets **two penalty strokes**.

“In total, the player has made two strokes and gets a two-stroke penalty”

  12. Wonderful_Hamster933

That’s cool enough, I wouldn’t penalize for it.

  13. MeetTheMets31

Initial Stroke counts and 2 stroke penalty

  14. iTimeBombiTimeBomb

Can you claim second hit was accidental?

  15. RonnieBGames

I suppose this is 3 strokes total because rules. But I personally would call it a 1 and you win the hole no matter what my score was.

  16. I don’t care if it’s legal or not. You pull that off, you get the result. We’re not on the pga tour

  17. Azfitnessprofessor

I’d give the dude a birdie on the hole no matter what he shot

  18. If he had to make that shot in to save par, I’m giving it to him.

  19. Packwood88

If my buddy does that, it’s 100% fair game and counts as 1

  20. Rule 10.1d Making a Stroke at a Moving Ball

Two stroke penalty in stroke play, the stroke counts and the ball is played as it lies. So he made two strokes and gets two penalty strokes.

In match play he loses the hole.

  21. Artistic_Ad_562

If he doesn’t report to GHIN then who gives a shit I’d take a stroke off just for being such a bad ass.

  22. Standard_Event_3838

I believe that would be 3 shots. First, the blooper, second the hit in mid-air, third is the penalty for hitting a moving ball (I’m referencing Phil M in the US Open sometime back when he swatted a moving putt going off the green).

  23. I try to score myself by the rules so I know what I actually shot and can measure myself against that. Played with tons of guys would didn’t score right, improved their lies, took long ass gimmes, etc. At the end of the round we tally up the cards and they’re like I beat you by one strobe. I just laugh and say good for you. But people know.

  24. narwalfarts

I would have wiffed that and then joined my ball in the pond.

Anyone who scores that as more than 1 is a jabroni, unless there’s serious money on the line.

  25. wolfpack03

If one of my buddies did that I’m 100% giving them that shot.

  26. NotDazedorConfused

The score card reads not how, but how many…
