Springfield, Illinois — The dangerous heat advisory may be over, but Central Illinois is still expected to see some high temperatures this weekend.

With many events going on, including the Memorial Health Golf Championship, Springfield is expected to welcome thousands of visitors.

From cooling towels to cooling centers, tournament officials said they are well prepared to welcome guests to Panther Creek Country Club.

The Memorial Health Tournament Executive Director, Kate Peters, said they have a team of people monitoring spectators and volunteers.

Peters said the tournament is also stacked with bottles of water and electrolytes.

“If they’re out on the course, we have a team of people that are roving making sure everyone is good,” Peters said. “If they’re in one of our hospitality venues we have hosts on each site. So, if you’re out here they’re are plenty of shady places.”

The event kicked off Thursday during a heat wave, but Peters said they managed to keep everyone safe. The tournament is expected to welcome more than 24,000 people.
