USA AND PEACOCK. WHO WILL TAKE HOME THIS YEAR? I AM SERIOUS. WHO DO YOU THINK THE BIGGEST STORY LINE IS AHEAD OF THE FINAL MAJOR IN THE MEN’S GAME? >> IT IS RORY. RORY, RORY, RORY. MOST IMPORTANTLY, WHICH RORY ARE WE GOING TO SEE? IS IT GOING TO BE THE RORY THAT WAS BROODING DURING THE PGA CHAMPIONSHIP AND THE EARLY STAGES OF THE U.S. OPEN? OR WILL IT BE THE BOUNCY RORY, THE RORY WE SAW EARLIER THIS YEAR, THE RORY THAT WE SAW AT THE MASTERS? THE RORY THAT WE SOUGHT THE ZURICH CLASSIC? I WOULD SAY EVEN THE BOUNCY RORY THAT WE SAW LAST WEEK AT THE TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP WHERE HE PLAYED REALLY WELL. HE SOUNDED REALLY ENCOURAGED AND OPTIMISTIC ABOUT HIS GAME AND ALSO TRAVELING ACROSS THE POND, GETTING BACK IN A FAMILIAR ENVIRONMENT, PLAYING LINKS GOLF, FEELING THE LOVE AND THE SUPPORT OF HIS HOME COUNTRY, TEEING IT UP AT ROYAL PORT RUSH ABOUT ONE HOUR WHERE HE GREW UP. THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT HE NEEDS TO GET HIM OUT OF THIS LATE SEASON FUNK HE FINDS HIMSELF IN. >> CAN THE BODY AND MIND RESPOND ONE MORE TIME FOR ANOTHER BIG MOMENT IN 2025? HE DOES HAVE SUCH GREAT TIES TO ROYAL PORT RUSH. HE SHOT 61 THERE AT THE AGE OF 16. WE ALL REMEMBER 2018, THAT OPENING-ROUND, THAT MISSED LEFT WITH THE IRON. THEN, THAT INCREDIBLE FRIDAY WHERE HE SHOOTS 65 AND NEARLY MAKES THE CUT. HE HAS GREAT HISTORY AND TORTURED HISTORY AT THIS GOLF COURSE. NOT THE LEVEL OF AUGUSTA NATIONAL BUT THE FACT THAT HE HAS HAD A HOMECOMING. THE FACT THAT HE HAS HAD TOO MUCH — THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR HIM TO GET SNAPPED BACK INTO THE FRAME AND FOCUSED ONCE AGAIN. >> YOU THINK ABOUT THE BIG TOURNAMENT. THE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP AT HOME. IF YOU CAN’T GET MOTIVATED FOR THAT, HE IS NOT LIKELY TO GET MOTIVATED FOR ANYTHING. OBVIOUSLY THE RYDER CUP ON AMERICAN SOIL AS WELL. IF HE CAN’T GET UP ON THOSE TWO EVENTS, I DON’T KNOW IF IT WILL EVER HAPPEN. HE IS PREPARING HIMSELF FOR WHAT HE IS EXPECTING TO BE A PRETTY EMOTIONAL FORTNIGHT ACROSS THE POND. IN 2019, HE DID NOT HANDLE IT PARTICULARLY WELL. HE WAS OVERWHELMED ON THAT FIRST TEE ON THURSDAY. BROKE DOWN AFTERWARDS, HE WAS UNAWARE OF WHAT THAT MOMENT WAS GOING TO BE FOR HIM. CAN HE GET HIS GAME OVER THESE NEXT COUPLE OF WEEKS IN A POSITION TO REALLY CAPITALIZE ON IT? THAT IS THE QUESTION FOR ME. >> HE DROVE IT AS WELL AS ANYONE IN THE FIELD AT OAKMONT. LAST WEEK AT THE TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP AT HIS BEST PUTTING WEEK. HIT HIS IRONS AS WELL AS HE HAS AT A GUST OF. WHICH ONE COMES FIRST. IS THAT THE EMOTIONAL LETDOWN WHERE HIS GAME SUFFERS OR IS IT BECAUSE HIS GAME IS NOT AWARE IT USED TO BE? I THINK THE GAME IS THE PRIORITY. >> I HOPE HE IS ABLE TO FIND THE JOY, THE JOY THAT WE SEE FROM HIM OFTEN, NOT SO MUCH SINCE THE CAREER GRAND SLAM. I KNOW HE HAS BEEN RELEASED BUT KIND OF OVER THE HOLE SONG AND DANCE, THE PERFORMATIVE ASPECT . WHEN RORY IS FIRING AND THINGS ARE RIGHT WHEN HE IS PLAYING GREAT AND HE IS COMFORTABLE AND HAPPY END EXPANSIVE WHEN HE IS TALKING TO THE MEDIA, IT IS THE BEST VERSION OF RORY. THAT IS THE RORY THE MEDIA LOVES, THE FANS LOVE. I JUST HOPE IT IS NOT TOO LATE THAT HE IS NOT FRIED BY WHAT HAPPENED IN APRIL AND THE STRUGGLES OF MAY AND HE IS ABLE TO FIND THAT JOY AND ABLE TO CAPTURE IT BEFORE 2025 IS UP. >> I DON’T THINK IT IS ANY COINCIDENCE THAT THE PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP AT AUGUSTA NATIONAL, RORY McILROY SAID THIS IS THE HAPPIEST HE HAS EVER BEEN. EVERYTHING IN HIS LIFE WAS SEEMINGLY IN A GOOD SPOT. THAT IS WHY HE PLAYED HIS BEST GOLF EARLIER IN THE SEASON ON THE PGA TOUR CAN HE GET HIMSELF UP FOR ANOTHER CHALLENGE? WE DON’T KNOW WHAT THAT IS LIKE. YOU ARE GOING TO COME BACK DOWN. HOW DO YOU THEN GET THE COURAGE AND THE ENCOURAGEMENT AND THE MOTIVATION AND EVERYTHING ELSE? ALL OF THE EXCITEMENT TO GO AGAIN. TIGER WOODS COULD NOT DO IT. HE DID NOT HAVE A

  1. Don’t make it out like woods’ lapse in form post grand slam was down to a lack of motivation. That’s utter nonsense. They’re two different people. Mcilroy and woods are not comparable from a mental standpoint. Please don’t draw comparisons to try give Mcilroy the benefit of the doubt.

  2. If Rory doesn't bounce he's not ready to pounce. In other words NO BOUNCE NO POUNCE. So how does Rory win again, he must work on his bounce. That's the only way he can possibly pounce.

  3. i believe that Rory needs to be hated before he can find adequate motivation to do his best work. he's even said as much, hinting on being too nice the past few years. look how he acted at the last Ryder Cup; or many of the other ones. he gets his edge from hate and it is part of his personality make up.

  4. Rory is playing great golf now, don’t get it twisted. The low round on Sunday at Oakmont and a solid T-6 finish at the travelers. He’s got the Scottish open soon and by then we will know if he’s primed to win the open at Portrush (but I’m sure he is).

  5. The only thing “big” on him is his head (and I mean the one between his shoulders) ! Amanda Amanda where are you ??

  6. I'd like to see Rory be more comfortable in leading a tournament, especially early. It's like he needs his back against the wall first and then he grits his teeth and gets fired up.

  7. I’ve golfed at Portrush and they have solid tee markers. Will be tough for Rory to break one. Lockers are old though… Wyndham can definitely put his foot through them.
