yeah we’re going to talk about great fast bowlers who elevate any contest of course we just witnessed the World Test Championship final in which we saw Pat Cummins ando Rabada they’re ranked number two and three in the world I think but number one ranked bowler is in this game of course Jasper Brum and that’s been the question hanging over the first couple of days of this test match england’s bowlers have found it difficult to get much out of the surface yesterday they’ve had a clatter of wickets either side of lunch in better bowling conditions what will Jasper Bumra get out of the pitch you you’ve played a fair bit against him i know you’re a tail ender you back down the order but you’ve faced him a lot he’s got you out a fair a fair bit just tell us what will the chat be like in the England dressing room ahead of a test in which Jasper Bummer is playing i think I don’t think the chat will be solely on him i think if you focus purely on him and it can bring fear into things and then you you forget about the other quality bowlers that they’ve got so I think in the dress room the the chat will not be overly about Bumra but I think they’ll respect and know how good he is just from the recent tour i mean even playing in India which is not favorable conditions um I was the only fast baller on our team and I couldn’t pick up any wickets and then he made me look stupid a little bit he come in and he reversed it everywhere and got four wickets i was like oh thanks Jasper but um yeah a phenomenal baller someone across all formats not just test match cricket but all formats who was really dangerous um and I can honestly say he’s he’s really hard to to pick up and face it sort of hits you quicker than you think well we’ll explore why i mean I mentioned he’s the number one ranked bowler in the world do you think that’s a fair reflection of his standing right now yeah absolutely and I think across all formats I wouldn’t just say test for cricket i think across all formats I think he’s the best bowler in the world right now um and and rightly so because he’s he’s dangerous any part of the game whether it’s new ball you know anytime he he can you know change a game and unusual for a bowler an Indian bowler because he’s got more test wickets abroad the vast majority of his games and his wickets have been taken outside of India in non subcontinental conditions which makes him a vital component of this Indian team really which is looking to win all over the world yeah and probably a product of that Kohley era and his leadership where he made them a fitter stronger side kohley was so keen on fitness and he will tell you part of being a fast bowler is being fit and being strong so they developed this core of fast bowling you know if you include siraj is playing in this game Mohamed Shami so that they could win away from home they won in Australia they came here and played very well and the series was drawn um so win in all conditions basically he is the best multiiformat bowler in the world at the moment who would argue with that maybe Josh Hazelwood Kahisa Robada some of the ones you’ve mentioned there Stark Cummins but across all formats he is just magnificent i think you’d be foolish just to focus on the fact that he’s different and that he he does things differently in his runup and his action i think he’s also highly highly skillful and he’s a real feisty competitor plays with a bit of a smile on his face but he’s a competitor try and put him into some kind of historical context to show how good he is if we put up a graphic that shows the bowlers who’ve taken more than 200 test wickets so a minimum of 200 test wickets you got to be pretty good to get that number but he’s got the lowest average of them all he averages under 19 and there are some unbelievable names there malcolm Marshall Joel Garner Curtly Ambrose Fred Truman didn’t play against him didn’t play against him played against those two who were unbelievable bowlers but the fact that he’s got the lowest of all tells you how good he is like you say the names on that list purely you know and him to be at the top speaks for itself i I don’t think you need to say much more than you know to be amongst them great names and be right up there says that you know not just at home but in all conditions yet you’ve proven that you’re a quality bowler talked about the fact that it’s difficult to pick him up and maybe can explore that a little bit because runup is very interesting and it’s a thing that you’ve tinkered with over your career as well you started with a very short sharp dynamic runup and then you lengthened it into something a bit smoother and longer but Jasper Bumra is completely the other way if we look at the kind of batsman’s view of him this kind of stuttering sta staggered run up barely getting into a trot doesn’t really get into full pace at all and then the thunderbolt comes at you at late 80s miles an hour it’s an unusual thing that a batsman sees from the end of his mark yeah I still get the shivers there watching him running i’m thinking “Oh no here he comes again.” But he just has this sort of like um like you see like a trot so it’s not really a a run in but then all of a sudden whoosh this sort of um bullet comes at you and it hits you before you’ve even realized because of that sort of late release point but actually when you watch his action he’s in a great place to ball fast as well because everything’s going towards the target there’s nothing coming off if we just got maybe roll back that stuttering run up again NAS because we’ve seen great fast bowlers over the years like Michael Holdings say will come in from the sight screen but as a batter you almost can get ready for that at 90 mph but this is very hard to get ready for isn’t it it is because if you think triggers and things like that when are you going to move some batters like Zack Crawley he doesn’t have a trigger so it doesn’t affect him that much so you’re thinking when do you move but also just the fact there he’s running in and you think it’s going to come out so s Paul calling Inward space you think is he got it wrong sometimes you honestly must think is he going to stop here and you know he’s not going to stop he’s going to keep coming at you so I think with Boomerra like we had to do sometimes with Shane War I think you have to just play the ball and not the bowler you know you watch we often go in on batters lips even Joe Root some of the great batters of all time and we focus in on cameras and you see their lips moving gucci used to do it every single ball Graeme Gule that was bowled to him only thing he said to him himself was watch the ball and that with this lad here is imperative if you’re watching his stuttering run up and you’re watching his action and his lean um and the hyperextension and when is it coming you’re going to get a bit of a scramble brain you have to say watch the ball play the ball not the bowler you mentioned the lean and what that means is that he’s kind of slightly beyond the perpendicular we’ve got a a split screen here of him and Josh Tong if we run that through both of them are slightly beyond the perpendicular so the perpendicular 12:00 if you like is that orange line that we’ve drawn there and both of them are more at 1:00 maybe and the difficulty from a batter’s perspective NAS is that that the angle then the ball is seems as though it’s coming into you and both these guys can move it then late the other way yeah Stokes is very similar you know the game of cricket a lot of the game of cricket is about angles so I used to I know you used to struggle actually against line bowlers if you think of McGra and Ambrose they didn’t create angles they were line bowlers and that you struggled I used to struggle with the opposite with people who created an angle someone like Courtney Walsh because you think the ball work here you think the ball is coming in from that angle and actually in the end it leaves you and you you do that we’ve got a few dismissals of Joe Root getting out of him he’s got Joe quite a few times for exactly that reason joe thinks it’s coming in on the angle and then you follow it stokes when it’s reversing is a nightmare it’s coming in and the reverse swing takes it away so then people will say “Well why don’t you expect it to go that way?” So you line up slightly that side of it but the angle it then does nothing and you’re out LBW i the bowlers who create an angle for me are a nightmare and he does it better than anyone you’re not beyond the perpendicular more more at 12:00 but it’s something that I know the England management are quite they they look at quite a lot because quite a lot of the top bowlers of the day and Robard is in this uh in this group as well just come from slightly beyond the top yeah exactly what Nas said perfect there it’s about the the angle and sort of the perception in which the batter seeing the ball um I used to do a thing where I would jump wide on the crease and that was for the same sort of reason to change the angle get them to see something different but the natural angle that Stokes tongue bum wrap produce where you feel like everything’s coming at you at you but then they’re able to hold the ball away and jag it away from you makes them doubly dangerous do you know who I who we don’t mention who does that and it’s much more subtle is Jimmy jimmy Anderson actually doesn’t lean as much or any of that but Jimmy sort of pushes it in to swing away so almost with his wrists he creates an angle which is even more of a nightmare I can tell you the swing is then late as opposed to say a Matthew Hogard who is more from the arm um so this is not unique quite a few bowlers do this but there are aspects to Bumra’s action which are unique so if we go from a front on view to the side on view here he’s got this brace front leg which many fast bowlers have and Mark you’ve got exactly the same and many of the quickest bowlers that I’ve seen have the brace front leg but this hyperextension of the arm which so that the arm is hyperextended comes back to forward in fact a lot of people question whether there’s a there’s a kink in the action but it’s not it’s a hyper extension and then how far more forward he delivers the ball which is effectively about I think it’s 47 cm further forward than you deliver the ball which basically means he’s he’s got a yard of pace on everybody yeah he hits me 47 seconds earlier than my bat gets down talk to us about the brace front leg first how important is that a technically lovely position obviously he’s you know set where all that energy is then you know through that front leg and it’s all coming through really late and then he has that extra delay with his wrist as well which gathers that extra little bit of pace and I think mentioned about the trigger before when the ball is released so late you’re then not getting the queue from the arm coming round to then that’s the release point you’ve almost got that little split second after as well where then it hits you so little bit different to mine but from a fast ball in position he’s in a great position to ball quick i’ve never seen anybody else deliver the ball from that much closer to the bat bats no and that’s why the speed gun sometimes you should just is nonsense because some bowlers just hit the bat harder it may be their action the one person who I was surprised wasn’t on that list was Wazim Aram wim had that quick arm from nowhere and with the reverse swing and he just for me was a nightmare with the speed of his arm so he may be bowling at 85 mph 88 and Woody at 90 odd but because of that yard of speed as you’ve just called it he may be hitting the bat just as hard and you always feel rushed against Bumra because he’s bowling slightly closer it’s right behind the ball as well so it’s not as if that arm’s coming around itself or it’s right behind it so he actually gathers sort of pace off the wicket it’s all that energy which everybody says is impossible by the way but it certainly feels like it gets like all that energy and momentum behind the ball and he’s released so everything’s sort of towards the target a bit like I guess a a catapult or something where everything is then fired in that spear like motion towards he’s targeting he’s incredibly accurate with it as well i think we can have an overlay actually of you of Bumra on your action just to show how much further forward he does release the ball from you i mean that’s a significant difference isn’t it it’s just a natural instinctive advantage that he has and about an average of about 10 better than mine and a half so that’s probably why he’s uh he’s doing so well but look I think not this is the beauty about bowling fast you know not everybody bowls the same that’s there that’s different little you know tinker bits um he’s found a way i think in England at one point that might have been coached out of him whereas now I think um you’re looking for these people that are a little bit different or the the bowl in a way that you know he’s still producing the goods and like that top quality so um it might be a little bit different but that’s hard for people to pick up and it makes it you know doubly difficult so that’s is all about the biomechanics of his action and the other aspect to it is the skill that he’s perfected along the way and I think that white ball cricket is an important part of that actually because we’re going to show a collection of his deliveries here which are slower balls yorkers late swinging yorkers and a lot of these skills NAS will have come out of white ball cricket as well and out of bowling on flat pitches you know in in India he may have been growing up playing on flat pitches you have to find a way of getting batters out but he’s got everything any bowler that can hit you on the foot like that or on the head and hit top of off stump and have a good slower ball i mean the classic one was the Pope um dismissal yeah we can’t show that sadly because that was in Vishap it’s not the footage that we have but it produced a fantastic moment of fear didn’t he you’re just watching Jimmy getting peppered well I mean this was this was interesting because this was the Lord’s test match Woody and it was a nasty spell do does every fast bowler have a nasty streak in them do you You’re spo You’re said to be one of the nicest men in cricket do you have a nasty streak in you i think if that’s what the captain of the team needs and absolutely you’ve got to front up for your team and your country and that’s what you’re playing for it’s a you know you’re very proud to represent that so that’s a big thing that footage there that’s probably the biggest thing I regret or one of the biggest things in my career I regret is that then we went out to bowl and we bowled really emotionally you know at the time the coach captain and the the feeling of the group was that he bowled deliberately um at Jimmy over the front line he was bowling no balls and bowling bouncers and then as a group we let that and ultimately the game slipped away that partnership that had it rattled it rattled England yeah and I bowled poorly i think there was others where we we basically wanted to try and dish it a little bit out be aggressive back and they got away from that’s a a big regret of mine actually the key for England you asked Woody right at the start of this is what will be the conversation in the dressing room and he rightly said don’t focus in on one lad but it’s to make sure he bowls and bowls and bowls he’s coming back from an injury now we have seen bowlers you know even Kahisa Rabada in that world test championship final haven’t bowled in a first class game for quite some time and his second third fourth spells as he will tell you if you’ve not played for a long time that you come back so stiff and sore that’s the key for England when they go out to bat later today tomorrow whenever make sure you’re bringing Bumra back for his third fourth spell because he’s coming back from a serious injury and and five games yes and I think he’s going to play he’s going to play three matches which may be the first and the second because there’s quite a break between the first and the second miss the third play the fourth question is always if if the series is won all and the fifth game comes on the line then every captain coach select will want Bumra to be playing do they have to be strong enough to say no because his career is more important down the line or you just say this is such an important series out you go no I I clear I personally I’d want to play I think does I you know I’ve had these injuries in my career where you then have that um chat with the captain and coach where look are you going to do the team harm by playing and are you going to be able to get through three four spells are you going to be able to do this and that but you know from from my like he’s such an asset for that team that if it’s on the line you want him in the team um hopefully not the fifth test cuz that’s what I’m in for so maybe the fourth but uh you know you want him in the team if you’re if you’re cutting coach um what’s coming this afternoon then what do you reckon he’s going to bowl straight away isn’t he and the conditions look pretty good out there look good for bowling it’s still a pretty flat pitch let’s not exaggerate it’s just gone from a flat pitch to a slightly less flat pitch but there was a big cheer out there so maybe the covers are just starting to come off and I’m looking forward route against Bumra number one in the world batter number one in the world bowler but these openers a as you know they’ve got a job to

Can someone please smuggle Sky feed and commentary into India forever
Bumrah is greatest fast bowler ever ; no one close to him
Would have been a privilege to watch Zaheer Khan and Bumrah bowl together.
Arshdeep singhh should be in test team
Pure cricketing knowledge, no bullshit
No one like jassi❤❤❤❤
Is Mark wood retired? or just taking a break
I doubt whether Indian Cricket show can produce such an unbiased/ neutral analysis of an English Batsman or Bowler because, media in India are worshippers not experts
Learn Star Sports! Learn! That's how a cricketing conversation should be done. You assembled a group of nincompoops whose only contribution is to haggling with each other with relentless silly and unwitty jokes.
I like to hug u all three with love, kneel and prostrate with respect for the pure honesty in putting the real facts with no bias towards an Indian, thank you Wood for such maturity god bless you all, hardwork and dedication always pays and Bumrah puts his life in every bowling hence we see him on top of the world list More power to u man till u last
Feeling very proud because bowler getting respect what he deserves… Love from India ❤
Why wood is not playing
As a legend once said “ I am only believe on Jassi Bhai”
Different ways to say chucker
Why the positive energy is not getting transfer into other indian bowler..Hope india get 150kmph bowler soon
12:18 lol we all had the same reaction😂
Bumrah is one man army
Burnahs ball are generally angledin and slightly moving away from the pitched spot
As an Indian fan, Bumrah is magical indeed, a genius but can we please stop comparing him after 200 wickets to Akram, Ambrose and Marshall. Let's see if he can get to 300 because the strains and dependence on him are already showing. Plus the action is so non-classical that he gets unfair advantage.. it's not the skill overall, it's the point of delivery
Wah lagend bumrah saheb kamal h ji
Why Mark Wood is not playing ?
Indian bowlers are not bad. Just that Bumrah is just from another planet. English bowlers also leaked runs but their batters play a different brand of cricket. Let's stop comparing others with Bumrah & be patient with other bowlers.
Is wood retired?..
Bumrah always no. 1
Good to see Wood doing something in his rehab program. Indian media has reported that Jofra Archer can play the Birmingham test and the rest.
Bumrah minus indian bowling is hopeless
They can bowl all five day without getting 10 wicket
Brilliant Analysis. Sky Cricket is best.
Man woody was a good bowler , injuries ruined his career.
Mark Wood is a champion of a bloke and cricketer
One of the best bowler Jasprit Bumrah that India have got. Better than wasim karam and shoaib akhtar
Great presentation
@iplultras
At 2:47 Kohli didn't make these bowlers, BCCI and the system did, he was the captain thats it
Nasser is kohlipaglu😂😅
Now thus stupid english people will come up the thing that bumrah action is illigal
Wen ever these idiotic english start to loose they come up with reasons
Thats all they know from divide and rule in 18th century and to now
They think they r the superpower but they r nothing but a vassel of USA
Still took 5 wickets and with 2 3 catches dropped.. plus one wicket on a no ball… still managing to get a 5 fer… after coming from injury..
REAL MAGICIAN ❤❤
Not related to cricket, but if I make a movie, I will cast Mark Wood in it. He looks really good on camera.
Brilliant analysis. I miss this on Indian television. I hope Star Sports goes through an overhaul with Harsha Bhogle as host – DK and Ashwin as analysts for English, Jatin Sapru as host – Pujara and Nehra as analysts for Hindi.
England is now Islamic Republic of Englishtan.
I love england team ❤❤❤ always
It's funny how Australians and English can't even say out plain and simple he is a bloody chucker!!!
Ye log bumbra kk achha bol ke sare test match jeet lenge hamse😂😂😂😂
The catapult action he explained is not chucking? Hyper extension or not. Why no other bowlers had that catapult? Would Indians support such action if the bowler is from another country? It seems to be chucking action and nothing would be done because India controls cricket now. And nobody wants to go against bcci and be in the bad books of the boss.
Atherton is surprisingly unconvincing: "Bumrah has a bowling average under 19", "his bowling arm is at one o'clock" etc
