guys if we got a special episode for you today we’re at one of the steamed golf courses in South Africa poor Valley look at that on the Valdivia estate what makes it even better we joined by a rugby Legend 109 test caps 37s Captain John de Villiers thanks Sean it’s uh it’s awesome to be on the show it’s awesome to be here I play uh Paul Valley quite often it’s a it’s a special place for me I grew up in Paul and lived back in Paul now as well and I’ve got to know this stuff pretty well as well and they always look after us the golf is not great but the views are always beautiful the course is always in Immaculate condition and always great to be here so we’re at the 13th which is their signature Hall we’ve asked the golf director Jaco to talk us through the hole and how we should try a team to play it yeah so Sean it’s uh easy easy part three uh not the longer so I’ll probably playing around the world 65 meters um obviously massive water lights Bank on the left but there’s lots of space on the Greenfield for those that that managed to find it we’ve got prevailing wind coming off the off the left so if you do it to fade it’s advisable bail out a little short not only in the bunker if you can miss the bunker it’s easier to bail out short and then yeah two-part on the green it’s a pretty flat green so if you do find the green you’ve got a good chance to make the putt um you could probably imagine not the most holding one hole on the golf course but it’s a beautiful Vista um it’s always manicured beautifully and we’ve done a lot of work on that to make it maybe to add as well very cheeky bunky shot so if you can see it it slopes there so obviously you don’t want to be in the back of that dance slow bunker shot water to the right yeah but then again your tee shot you’re so scared of the water usually you do end up in the bunkers thanks for the tough t-shirts got lots of skill in this in this in this group yeah so I’m sure we’ll up and down easily well steady on no pressure it’s a typical Jack Nicklaus with a bang Creek yeah John are you really bad I don’t think so you know people always say what’s more daunting you know playing the All Blacks face in the All Blacks or your first tee shot at a big event or on camera when I was playing rugby I knew what I was doing because I played golf I’ve got no idea I think I’d rather eat a t-shirt than face John let’s see how you go on the 13th took us through it what you’re trying to do yeah so so again as mentioned it is a relatively relatively big uh um green uh you know I’m always scared of the water I I hit a bit of a bit of a fade I’m hoping to kind of aim just on the left edge of the of the green hopefully a bit of a fade get in the middle center of the um of the green that’s the plan but it’ll probably end up either in the sand or the water positive thoughts positive thoughts here [Music] that is a great stripe that’s kind of the plan right perfect left edge of the Fairway with a bit of a face Jordan’s put me under pressure yeah he’s hit it to about 20 foot left pin High great shot so I’ve got a sixer not as strong as John obviously um but let’s see I’ll go oh hold it while it was not like the pressure there let’s see how we go [Music] I’ve put myself in a pickle yeah short-sighted myself way left got the bunker to carry and the water looming at the back I’m going to try to get a bit of innovation and hope I can get it to sit what what [Music] I’ll take that John I’ll take that bud right John said a fantastic tee shot what you got left there John let’s do it yeah so yeah relatively long long uh long Patia I mean the greens here traditionally very quick um moves to the water normally also with a you know a bit more speed and I suppose Mark but you know a little bit from the right it will be the movement from the right [Music] I’ve started a little bit to the right um I think pace is a big thing here so let’s see 100. Today we are joined by Jean De Villiers on the 13th hole at Pearl Valley Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course at Val de Vie Estate, in the heart of the Cape Winelands.

Jean de Villiers is a South African former professional rugby union player. He started his career at wing, but played most of it as an inside centre. De Villiers played for Western Province in the Currie Cup, The Stormers in Super Rugby, Leicester Tigers in Premiership Rugby and internationally for South Africa, for whom he was named captain in June 2012.

Jean played in 109 Tests ( the most Springbok Test Capped Centre in history) and 37 as captain, scoring 27 tries and winning the World Cup in 2007 and the Tri-Nations twice. Jean De Villiers is a Springbok Legend.

This weeks hole is the 13th at Pearl Valley. A 175 metre Par 3.

The signature hole is known for its beauty and wonderful design, but it is a hole that requires total commitment. Pick your club and focus on solid contact. Find the green off the tee and a par is in reach. The safe play is short right, avoiding the left greenside bunker. The trick to this hole is to pay attention to the water. It shows you what the wind is doing as it can often swirl, making club selection tricky.
