in today’s video you’re going to see great ball striker after great ball striker after great ball striker demonstrating exactly what I’m going to teach you in this video it’s the same thing I taught to a recent student of mine who totally transformed his swing you see every great ball striker does two key things during the down swing first they break through the wall with their lead side in the first part of the down swing second they break through the wall with their trail side in the second part of the down swing you’ve got to learn how to break through the wall with the lead side early and then learn how to get the trail side through after what the pros do so well that the amateurs don’t is they break through the walls we’re going to see the forward motion the left knee hip and shoulder breaking through the wall moving forward enough that moves the low point more forward gives him the shaft lean the solid contact but now while that’s happening what we want to see from the down the line angle we want to see the right side bend to be able to shallow out the arms and club so as the lead sides working forward the piece that keeps the head back is the right shoulder getting closer to the right hip so you see where the right shoulder and hip started see how the right shoulder’s gotten closer to the right hip during the down swing which lowered the head motion right and keeps the arms hands club swinging on plane that helps shallow the arms and hands in impact so we have to be really good at both of those the forward motion break through the wall so here see the left knee has moved quite a bit forward the hip has moved forward the shoulder has moved forward it’s got quite a bit more shaftling but the head hasn’t moved as far forward and that’s from on this left side that right side bend piece we have to combine those two to get the compression we want but also swing from inside hit the ball high far let’s talk about exactly how you can put these in your swing so if we draw a line up from my left ankle and we’ll put some great ball strikers on the screen next to me from the top of the back swing only during this first part really from the top of the back swing to about left arm parallel early in the down swing you’re going to notice that they’re able to keep their lead side down and move it forward towards the target specifically to the point where that line up my ankle the lead knee goes forward of it and the hip and the shoulder get to it now during the back swing the lead side’s already down right the knee the hip and the shoulder are already tilted during the back swing obviously from face on because we turn it’s also back so the lead side’s down and back our job to start the down swing is to keep the lead side down keep the knee down keep the hip down and keep the shoulder down as we start the down swing by doing that move early that helps us get our pressure shifted forward that helps us move our low point forward so you can see that we hit ball first ground second if we show a good ball striker at setup versus impact like an Adam Scott you’ll notice much more shaft lean that’s also helped by the fact that we keep that lead side down and work forward that helps us keep the club from inside more power all things we all want now when we’re feeling this to start the down swing I want you to feel like the left knee gets outside or in front of the ankle and the hip and the shoulder get to it now notice as I’m doing that let’s go split screen from face on my lead side’s working down staying down and forward and from the down the line my arms are staying in as I do this i’m not going forward with the arms out i’m keeping the lead side down right not standing up out of it and keeping the arms in so when I put that in a swing that’ll look like this lead side down and forward early but look as I’m getting my lead side down and forward I’m not doing it forever right i’m not continuing to do this all the way through the golf ball it’s very specifically in that first part of the down swing to get that low point forward and keep the arms from inside from there what’s really important from that point through the ball like you’ll see with all the good ball strikers on the screen and all good ball strikers forever is now instead of the wall being up the left ankle that we want to get our lead side through now we’ve got a wall up through the golf ball and the wall up through the golf ball we want to get our trail side through so lead side down and forward early trail side through after that specifically you want to get the knee the hip and the shoulder to the ball line by the time the arms are parallel to the ground so the mantra that I gave to my student that I want you to have as well is lead side down and forward trailside through try this with me lead side down and forward early trailside through so when I put that together that should look something like this lead side down and forward i feel like my left knee gets over the ankle feel that pressure working into my left toes first making sure my left hip and my shoulder are also working down and forward staying down and moving forward and then all of my trail side through knee hip and shoulder through lead side down and forward trail side through trailside down and forward early keep the arms in that helps move the low point forward swing from inside and then trail side through the ball the knee hip and the shoulder going to really help you with your consistency and your overall contact so if you want a little help in terms of how to feel this what I gave my student for the lead side feels just put a club inside your left ankle with the grip in front and what you want to feel like when you’re starting your down swing club across your shoulders grip in front as well make a little back swing lead sides down the knee the hip the shoulder and back and in early transition I want to feel like I’m going to get this club this grip past the grip on the ground i’m going to get my knee past my ankle and I’m going to get my left hip over my ankle so I should get the knee past the club on the ground and the hip and the shoulder past that as well that’s the feel just feel that to start down pressure working forward lead side staying down and moving forward then I’m going to take that same feel with a club in my hands it’s gonna really help you compress the ball hit down on it make sure you take a divot with those irons if you want a drill to help with the second part of the down swing the trail side through move the club back even with the golf ball and change the club across your shoulder so now the grip is on the right side and what you want to feel from here really from halfway down through is that you get the grip of this club past the golf ball and past the grip on the ground notice as I’m doing that my right knee also is getting to and past that line my right hip is getting to and past that line and so is my shoulder but notice where’s my head when I do it my head stays back over the golf ball trail side breaks through the wall but the head stays back then I’m going to transfer that same feel into a hit there you can see with both my swing and the professional models there it’s important to get that lead side down and forward that helps move your low point forward hit ball first ground second really compress those irons keeping the arms in while you do that the swing from inside getting that trail side through from there through the golf ball is really gonna help your consistency and overall contact if you like this video do me a favor click that like button down below if you want help learning how to do either of these moves head to cornogolf.com send me your 1. Great video.. I have been struggling with game this year. I decided to video my swing to see what my reals were vs feels. I noticed I was not breaking through the wall with my trail side.

  2. Important to note that the hands aren’t being “pushed” forward to create shaft lean. It’s the pelvic/hips movement breaking the wall that does it. And the strike at impact isn’t off the lead side, it’s more to the trail side where impact occurs.

  3. For my driver swing I also drive forward with my lead knee which I think breaks the “Wall” and to me feels like a small slide and then as my arms go past my body i rotate and post , making sure I keep my upper body behind the ball. Are you ok with me breaking the wall on my lead side with a driver? Btw… sorry to be that driver question guy. Love your content.
