Anyone else like playing with their 4-legged friend? My club has a 9-hole executive across the street from the main course and I’ll go out there with one of my dogs early morning. A few others at the club do the same early morning (especially when it’s been so hot in the NE).

Man, with a well behaved dog this would be heaven for me.

I have a 6 month old Jack Russell Terrier.
That isn’t happening until she’s about 17, blind, deaf and even then I’ll have to tie her to my golf bag.

  3. Have tried it a few times, but he can’t swing a club for sh*t.

Caddied at a very exclusive club during college. Head Superintendent spent all day with his golden retriever in the passenger seat of his cart. He’d hop out and run around when the superintendent stopped to work on something. Everybody at the club loved the dog. He made a very stuffy environment feel like a big hang. Love how dogs just chill people out.

I had a lab years ago the loved to ride in the cart FOR HOURS! The ranger would come to the house ( we lived on the course) and pick him up & let him ride all day in the cart with him. When he would bring him home the dog still didn’t want to get out of the cart!

  6. I’m glad to have found piece of grass without dogsh* everywhere. it’s a no for me

No, but a guy at my course brings the same breed (golden doodle I’m assuming) out with him when he’s alone and it’s no problem. He’ll let the dog off the leash occasionally too but nobody minds as he’s only out there with the dog in the evening when the course is quiet (private course with an older membership). I like seeing him and his dog when I’m getting an evening round in.

As long as you pick up and the dog chases a few geese away they are welcome. I will even donate dog treats for geese control

  9. This is an example of the American concept of golf and Scotland’s. I enjoyed seeing walkers and dogs being walked on the courses in Scotland. Players with dogs, randoms with dogs, etc. I would love to have dogs on courses in the US but with where etiquette and care about others have gone I unfortunately see it being a potential problem.

  10. DipThatChip

I don’t mean to be that guy, but aren’t there chemicals galore on course?

can’t imagine that exposure over time for a dog is healthy :/

  11. If it doesn’t make noise. Doesn’t move on my swing and you clean up it’s 💩… Sure

  12. ThrowItOut43

What do you mean, brought it golfing? I didn’t rent it clubs, I’m not buying it a fucking beer. He’s not taking your fucking turn, Dude.

  13. dockows412

Well behaved dogs? Basically don’t care where they go at all, and especially enjoy them on the course. I feel like I see Supers have them out and about all the time.
Crack head dogs that “I swear are never like this he’s just so excited” no.

  14. Mr_McBoogerballs777

I love dogs and would love them on thr course but this is not a good idea. Dogs absorb moisture through their paws. Golf courses have a lot of very bad chemicals and pesticides that are very harmful for dogs. Your dog can get very ill walking around on golf courses.

  15. Can’t wait to see a story about the dog all of a sudden appearing in your back swing and 17 stitches later

I bring him out during the magic hour at night when the course is empty. Walking with a push cart on a lead is the best so he doesn’t run himself to death. I pay close attention to when they’ve sprayed the course during the day and never go out afterwards. It should go without saying but you have to absolutely hawk for any poop and if they unfortunately do, you better have multiple bags and make sure you leave no trace.

If you leave the course in better shape than you found it and don’t ruin someone else’s experience then it shouldn’t be a problem. It’s probably my single most favorite thing to do in the summer.

I don’t like dogs. I don’t want to see, hear, smell, or be bothered by a dog. In a perfect world, you having a dog should not effect me at all.

Then in the past few years, people have decided to bring dogs everywhere. Stores, bars, hell they’re in carts at stores!

Your dog is a nice dog, so well behaved, they don’t bother anyone! No, it bothers me. If your dog pokes his nose into my leg, or touches me, or you have to come grab it because it’s walking around me, you failed as an owner.

I do my best to avoid people with dogs in tow. It is a problem when I actively avoid dogs and dogs still come up to me because their owner decided having their dog in a place where dogs shouldn’t be is more important than whatever I’m doing.

  18. Mode_Much

Love dogs but no, I don’t want them on the course.

  19. Hodler_caved

No problem with this at certain courses. That looks like an awfully good dog.

  20. greenflash1775

Fucking no. You people need to leave your animals at home. They don’t belong in a grocery store, in the airport, or on a golf course. Please realize not everyone loves your filthy, poorly trained, and badly behaved mutt.

  21. Pasatiempo has a wonderful sculpture of Alister MacKensie and Marion Hollins (who was a stick and course designer herself) that beautifully includes her dog Carlos.

I think there is a long and cherished legacy of golf pups out there. Hope mine learns to caddy as well as yours has some day!

  22. No. I don’t have to take my dog everywhere I go

  23. I wish either of my dogs could come out with me. But they’d want to be friends with every human and animal that comes within their sights. I love my babies but they’d stress me out lol

  24. FatFaceFaster

Nope nope nope nope nope nope nope nope

From the super’s standpoint …. No thank you.

I fucking love dogs. I have 3 of them.

But my dogs are highly trained goose dogs who won’t touch a golf ball if you try to hand it to them, they won’t step foot on a putting green, they won’t pee or poo on the golf course (only do it at the shop before we head out in the morning) they won’t dig, they’re females so they won’t lift their legs to mark anything, They won’t bark or chase after anything unless I tell them to. They won’t run through bunkers, chew rake handles, jump into ponds and drag muddy pond water all over the fairways…

Not to mention around the clubhouse and such – I don’t let my dogs run up to people, jump on them etc. not everyone loves dogs. A lot of dogs pee and poo when they’re excited – like when there are a bunch of people around – which is exactly what you want all around your clubhouse.

My dogs are allowed on the course because they’re practically employees and even still as soon as the course is busy they go in my office and lay down. I don’t know how well your dog is behaved, whether it’s going to piss on the tee boxes or greens, lift their legs on every sign post or garbage can… and it’s not my setup guy’s job to empty garbage cans full of dog shit either (that’s if they actually bag their poop and don’t leave it wherever they want) but

I’m sure there are some wonderful dogs out there who would be perfect angels on the course but you can’t have any way of knowing – usually until it’s too late.

Maybe there can be “dog days” at certain golf courses but it definitely can’t be a regular thing. At least not at any half decent course.

Just my opinion as someone who goes to Petsmart just to see if there are any dogs to pet,., I fucking love all animals. But I’ve already got golfers fucking up my course by the hundreds every day, I don’t need dogs out there too.

  25. ScuffedBalata

Mine is too timid, he’s a rescue.

He’s afraid of people with clubs. He’s afraid of the wind blowing in the trees. Swinging a club at a ball makes him cower away. The push cart I used scared the shit out of him. He seemed slightly frightened by the greens and wouldn’t walk on them (even just to cross to the other side).

One time I tied him to the push cart while I was swinging and he tried to run away from it and dragged it across the fairway… he thought the big mean thing was chasing him and he ran away and hid behind a tree with his leash all wrapped around the tree and the big mean push cart on the other side of it.

Golf clubs were strewn all over the hole and the umbrella holder on my cart snapped off.

  26. Someone had a dog on the course last week and it barked almost the entire fucking time, they always seemed to be on the hole adjacent to our fairway too.

  27. Intheswing

Can’t say I have ever seen this in the states. I have been to Scotland and saw a dog once walking along with its owner while playing, not a bother at all – the dog was better behaved than the rest of my foursome, who I did not know and were not local to the country. I would have rather played with the dog.

  28. BipolarKanyeFan

I LOVE dogs and have three of my own, but this is a trend I absolutely do NOT want to see. No offense to you, and give that pup all the scratches

  29. Apprehensive_Dish309

If they are as good as this dog why not!!

  30. Smyley12345

I would feel like shit if I hit a dog with a ball or a backswing.

  31. collectsuselessstuff

It’s allowed at my home course (public). I can’t imagine doing it though.
