I have tried this, but with a right handed club (I am right handed).
Grip the club with the toe straight down.
Not much distance but the ball was dead straight every time I hit it. Every time.
It’s a good demonstration that your body subconsciously is controlling your swing, because your whole body is doing some strange contortions to square the clubface.
